  1. Daytona broadcasters said that the D-Cubs pitchers liked the way he called games too.
  2. On the flip side, he throws a good-ish amount of would-be base stealers out. I'd rate Fox around the 9-10 slots in the system (an average to below-average system), obviously no one is going to come close to the quartet of Pie-Veal-Pawelek-Gallagher. Fox is a good prospect if he can stick at catcher.
  3. I hate bye weeks. Especially when I'll be out of the country for the next two weekends when the Bruins do play.
  4. No, they didn't. But I missed the 8th - 10th innings. The extremely bad Steve Lyons kept noting how empty Wrigley was in the first few innings, stating it wasn't this bad when he was playing and the Cubs were bad. I actually enjoy watching the Dodgers but Lyons nears unlistenable at times. Steiner sort of makes up for it though. He's not great either. I agree that Steiner is better. Too bad Vin Scully doesn't do too many road broadcasts these days. :(
  5. Exactly right, Tim. Corey Patterson was who I was thinking of when people were talking about their theory. When was this, what happened? September, 2004, when his 2 HRs accounted for all the Cubs runs in a win over the Pirates. It happened seconds after this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/Navinda/CXC109091423_lower.jpg
  6. Only because no one bumped this thread between May and yesterday. And there were sizable gaps in this thread last season too.

  8. The name that stands out for me is Larry Suarez. The Cubs seem to think he's pretty advanced if they plan on having him in the U.S. so soon. Maybe he'll skip the DSL? A couple of big names who I would have liked to have seen at instructs are Chris Huseby and Billy Petrick (I hope Billy's shoulder soreness hasn't morphed into something worse). Alan Rick is now listed as a first baseman. Play gets underway next Friday.
  9. I'm not sure how much that had to do with player development. Their non-baseball problems were known before they were drafted. It's fine to draft them anyway based on their baseball talent ... but I'm not sure that holding people who are charged with player development responsible for off-field problems is really holding the right people accountable. If you're going to invest in kids with off-field problems, then you should be willing to invest in people who can deal with off-field problems. To be fair, I'm not sure there was much, if any knowledge of off-field problems for BJ Upton until the DUI this season.
  10. I have no problem with the Sam McDowell comp (outside of the whole making me read up a bit on him part). Pawelek vs. Huseby is not much of a double standard, given (as you mentioned) he didn't pitch much his senior year. I'm just saying I'd have rated him higher.
  11. Yay, someone who has Dope in their top 10. Obviously most will disagree (same for Harvey, who I'm less inclined to keep in the top 10). Why do you rate Huseby as a C+? I think Petrick is too low, but I understand why you'd rate him there. Sam McDowell?
  12. Well, that certainly was one of the weirdest baseball games I've ever witnessed. Was as well played as a little league game.
  13. Yay!! I got my TiVo fixed! I can see some errors again..
  14. Wasn't the runner at third? (Forgive me if I'm wrong, the radio is cutting in and out - and now Frank Sinatra is singing louder than Rick Monday is broadcasting.) Sportsline: Ball, Strike (foul tip), Strike swinging, Martin reached on fielder's choice to shortstop, Lofton scored, Betemit out at second It wasn't scored an error ... but Sportsline also has one of Bynum's errors in the 1st inning charged to Pierre, so it's not the most accurate source. Accordng to Gameday, Lofton was at third already. So no error can be charged on the failed DP.

  16. You can't assume a double play. Yeah, that's what I thought - but I wasn't sure I heard right because I'm listening to Rick Monday over a rather staticy radio.
  17. I believe I heard Lee dropped the relay on a potential DP - but that isn't an error, right?
  18. May those of us who can't watch because TiVo has to record "House" and cannot possibly allow then to still watch the game please get updates? :x
  19. Woulda tied the modern era record for second baseman with that error. :(
  20. Error and not a hit? Was that a 3 base error? Yeah. Kid sure is exciting.
  21. Awesome.
  22. 3 errors? He should have 4.
  23. Hey, Bynum didn't throw away a chance! And now Jaque flashes the leather.
