The Jake Arrieta in 2017 story. I'll take a handful of hits and a 9:1 KBB any day. Sucks that the offense couldn't back him up. The 10 HRs before Memorial Day is the problem. Ball wasn't even flying out tonight at Dodger Stadium.

I also don't think Schwarber should go to the minors. If this were the playoffs, I imagine the Cubs would move Bryzzo up to 2-3. As you said, there's time for experimentation still.

The true visionaries are able to get 200 PAs of sub-.300 OBP from a guy in the lead-off spot, while wasting the same guy's .400 OBP over his next 200 PAs in the 8-spot. Remember when Dexter struggled in the first half of 2015 but Maddon didn't relegate him to the bottom of the lineup? The Cubs were rewarded when Fowler hit much better in the second half of 2015 and in 2016.

I think they'll take Allen no matter what if he's there at 27, and then it's BPA at 30. If that happens to be a HSer who has fallen, a la Carlson in this situation, so be it. Also BA has Romero going 24 to Boston and Schmidt 25 to Washington.
