  1. Stand in line, I've been wishing injury on him since his freshman year. That is hilarious, though.
  2. Marshawn Lynch and DeSean Jackson (rawaction!) are good. Very good.
  3. Yeah, I was watching the game at work and had to do some stuff with the Bulls up 10 with seconds left in the 3rd quarter. I come back to see them down 8.
  4. Yikes! UCLA barely beats Wagner by 2 at Pauley. :? And USC beats ranked North Carolina, after looking really bad all season (even during the previous 7 wins in their 8-game win streak).
  5. Desmond Clark? Marcedes would look good in a Bears uni (too bad he'll long be gone by the time the Bears draft).
  6. I agree, plug the money with guys who fall in the draft too (and sign them). The farm has slipped big time since the 2003 run and the Cubs have been diverting fewer and fewer resources to the farm system. The Cubs need to turn that around.
  7. So yeah, Stanford is below .500 two weeks after Arizona was. And Stanford's losses were to the likes of UCI, UCD, Montana and Virginia Tech. Looks like it will be a two team conference between U-Dub and UCLA. I think Cal (as long as Powe remains healthy) and Arizona will battle for third place in the Pac-10. By the way, at USC's last home game, there were 2 people in the student section.
  8. Safe to say the Cubs and the Cards. But the Cards are still better than us. Not Head to head in 05', the Cubs dominated the Cards taking the season series 10-6. But head-to-head record against one team in the division won't necessarily win the Central for the Cubs. The Cardinals are more likely to win the Central than the Cubs, despite their poor offseason.
  9. Those big plays have gone down in the past few weeks and he's going up against the opponents' #1 WR every week.
  10. 13. With the lack of picks from rounds 2-4, it'd be nice if the Cubs turned that round 2-4 signing bonus money into a nice Latin American player. And it'd be even nicer if the Cubs properly returned to the international scene. Zambrano, Guzman, Pie, Cedeno, Pinto, Choi, Ryu were/are all valuable assets to the franchise.
  11. I agree. Interceptions are the sexy stat and the reason Vasher is going to Hawaii. I'm glad that Harris, Brown and Briggs are getting their dues. :)
  12. No. The Cubs weren't going to find too many better options now, but 3 years is ludicrous.
  13. We already have 29 Premium pages on Jacque about four spots down in Transactions (or click here [Premium]).
  14. Why Finley? Was he the bane of the '84 playoffs? No, that was Steve F. Garvey. Don't forget Will Clark and Josh Beckett.
  15. I find this to be the most offensive post in the thread. Far worse than any f-bomb. The guy shows up and makes a post that he obviously spent a lot of time on, just trying to start discussion. I don't agree with his points either, but that's no reason to respond with a childish, overreacting post and say the entire thread should be locked because he mentioned the words "clutch" and "leader." I'd be pissed off if I were him too. I rarely find a thread here at NSBB that doesn't degenerate into high school squabbling, but this probably takes the cake. i agree. the guy talked about his blog and posted his work, and gets blasted out of left field for nothing. I'm dubious on the Jones signing. He provides an attitude and hustle thats lacking here, but statistically hes a little disappointing. I think this is a signing we wont be able to judge until the season starts. What's the problem here? A mod told WilliSC that there was nothing wrong with the original post in the thread and there's no reason to lock the thread. It seems like things have been settled and you're still bringing this up?
  16. They were #2 and #3 in ERA in an absolutely loaded league(Both made BA's top 20 for the Southern League as well, IIRC). Pinto and Nolasco are good prospects. You may think that they are worth Pierre, but let's not devalue them by calling them 'mediocre at best' or 'middle relievers'. Feel free to call them whatever you want. I wish to call them middle relief prospects. Why? Because neither has a "plus" pitch and nothing exceptional, good minor league pitchers but nothing special. Pinto's change is a plus pitch, his FB and slider are above-average or plus, depending on which scout you talk to. Nolasco's FB, curve and change are all above-average. EDIT: Raw wins. Pinto has absolutely no control and got hammered against good competition and Nolasco is nothing special i.e. middle relievers Pitchers can improve their control. Especially when they're still only 23 years old. And why do you think Nolasco will only be a middle reliever when he has great control and 3 above-average to plus-pitches?
  17. Not necessarily. Pie is only 20 so if he stays in the minors for three years he might be better off. Haing said that, Jones can still be traded if the Cubs choose to go with Pie in RF in the future. Hendry is hinting at wanting to lock up Pierre longterm at some point. Pie is young and does need more time in the minors, but he definitely doesn't need to rot at West Tenn and Iowa for 3 years. That would be a complete waste of a player.
  18. Hmm, I like what I've read so far about him.
  19. Seems kind of stupid to me. He probably could have gotten something better because the Dodgers weren't going to offer him arbitration. Now's he going to get 750K to sit on the bench all year. Maybe he likes being on the west coast. He loves LA and K-Town/the whole Korean community in So Cal has embraced him
  20. Forget you guys and your booze and drugs. I'll study the night away.
  21. But even then, we're only contenders if everything goes right - Z, Prior, Wood and Aramis are healthy, Dempster and Lee have to maintain their 2005 success and Pierre has to rebound. All that has to happen just to keep the Cubs in contention in 2005. I'm not suicidal on Jones, I figured he or Encarnacion were coming. I'm disappointed in the years, because his signing will now affect personnel decisions all the way till 2008.
  22. Strangely enough, I thought that Southside was referring to Tree's OTHER idea earlier in the thread.. At first, I did too. But then SSR mentioned not finding his USB - unless this is some new-fashioned heroin-consuming method.* *Not that I know anything about consuming heroin.
  23. We don't need any Padre OFs, they don't have French names.
  24. Yeah, Jim, defense really is the key to victory. Look what a good defense has done for the other Chicago team...I'd say they've turned out alright. are you really so naive to buy into that? the white sox won because they hit a bunch of homers and had lights out pitching. Look one line down...And I can't find my USB to upload my picture right now... :( Hurry up and find it.
