  1. Seriously, draft Marcedes Lewis. WHAT A SCREEN!
  2. :?: I saw a block in the back.
  3. The penalties on special teams are a bit staggering. Blocking in the back is so dumb.
  4. Pathetic might have been harsh. But they are a BCS shoe-in after beating one currently-ranked team all season and losing to a 5-6 team along the way. It seems like they'll knock out one of OSU or Oregon, both of whom are more deserving of going to a BCS game, imo. Oh, and if ND went 11-0, they would have beaten USC and there would be no doubt in most people's minds that they're deserving of playing in the national championship.
  5. I'll concede that this does indeed happen with a lot of guys, especially power hitters. Sometimes, you have to make certain sacrifices in order to gain the benefits of that kind of player (see: Adam Dunn, BBs, Ks, and HRs). However, in other cases, sometimes the light goes on for guys. Pie is still quite young for AA as it is, so this isn't like we're dealing with a guy who has little to no room for growth. There still is plenty of time for the Cubs to at least wait for him to develop better pitch recognition so that he can walk more often than he does. We'll see on this front. For now, I'd just like to see him get back to 100% at the plate and on the field. Plus, Pie has shown improvements in other weaknesses in his game (most recently, the increase in power).
  6. The opposite. Several reports(including Hendry himself I believe) said that Pie would have been up last year if not for his injury. Yeah, I heard that too. But I saw a quote within the last week that said he isn't slated to get called up during the '06 season. I wish I could recall where I read that, because it stuck out so much to me because Hendry said he would have been called up this last year had he not gotten hurt. Yeah, I read that somewhere in Transactions recently too.
  7. Shut up, Lou Holtz.
  8. I could burn him. Pretty pathetic that at 9-2, ND gets a BCS bowl game.
  9. Yes, it is.
  10. Told you too they scored too soon. :x
  11. YES!! Scored too early, though. :( 1:46 left.
  12. Exactly.
  13. INSIDE THE 10!!!!!!!!!
  14. Stanford still has a chance!!!
  15. C'mon, Stanford!!
  16. Watching ND today, I think UCLA would work them. :)
  17. He also doesn't have a big long-term contract or require you to take on Mike Lowell. Better player doesn't necessarily mean that he will require more in a trade. There are plenty of other factors that go into a player's "worth". It also seems to me that teams don't give up elite prospects for a guy who will be a free agent after the season. BTW, Lowell isn't a bum, and I'd look for a big year in Fenway for him. I agree on the Lowell part.
  18. To be honest, this is something I thought about as well when reading the terms of the signing. Think about it, it's one thing to close games in May and June, it's another to close them when the games are of extreme importance. It reminds me of Lidge who, as we all know, was lights out during the regular season yet seemed to crack in the postseason. Who would have really predicted it? Of course, it's yet to be seen how Ryan will perform in "big" games but it's hard to argue that the years and money are not a huge gamble for a guy who's largely untested as a closer. Career postseason ERA of 2.33 - he had 6 scoreless appearances in the 05 postseason and one of those apperances where he was scored upon, he got the save. He started his postseason career with 22.1 IP and just 2 ER (0.81 ERA) before Albert Pujols homered in Game 5 of this year's NLCS. Maybe his arm finally got worn out after being abused the past 3 years?
  19. Really? Which team had a higher payroll during the 90's when the Yankees were on their run? There were several. The Yankees were near the top but not at the top. Jeter Bernie O'neil Posada Brouscus Tino Pettitte These guys were the core of that team and none were that expensive at the time they were winning it all Sorry, not to hijack the thread, but what ever happened to Brocious? He hit like .287 in 1991 when he was 34 years old. You'd have to assume he had more baseball in him, but he never played again. Odd... Do you mean 2001? Yeah, that's what I meant. I thought he retired, not sure though.

  21. 3b last i heard He is playing SS in the Dominican Winter League, apparently. 3B will be kinda crowded since he seems to be advancing through the system at the same rate as LaRoche.
