  1. Wow my memory is terrible on the Tice timeline. I guess Tice was promoted before Enery was even hired. What a stupid organization. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Was it well known Tice was mainly Lovie's callI don't really recall that. Just going off memory, it felt like Emery pursued guys who weren't interested and then settled on Tice because the only other option was Bates and the organization was put off cuz he spurned us for Carroll 3 years ago. An article refreshing my memory would do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I was worried about Emery's ability to identify and bring in coaches because of Tice. I'm starting to believe that was mostly Lovie. I'm giving any offensive hires to Trestman, but I'm guessing Emery was the main driver behind Tucker and DeCamillis. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I really respect that we went out and got a defensive coordinator who values turnovers. Sorry, not just value, but shown an ability to coach units who get them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. He has gotten some interest before, so if he is successful, we'll probably only have him a year or two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. If we wait for Garza proves he is healthy you may lose the hometown deal. Just run a risk/cost analysis (you should have all the medicals) and put an offer. It may bite you, but as long as the contract reflects the risk fairly, just do it. And as alluded, be more concerned with years and trade protection than AAV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. He's got a pretty mixed background, but he got his start with Saban. A big thing for me is he seems to value turnovers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Good news, just hope Hoke stays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I'm fine with Hoke. Tucker intrigues me, but honestly, I think if we pass over Hoke for him, he'll probably ask to leave (and Tucker may not want him). So with the choice of Hoke or Tucker I'll take continuity and do my best to replenish the assistants. Ideally I'd bring in Tucker and keep Hoke though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The problem is those so-called "clear talent differences" are completely subjective and not clear at all. Ignoring need is stupid in the NFL. Only if you suck at your job. And granted everyone sucks at some poi t or another, but you should try to suck less than everyone else. Going primarily by need or fit just ends up in reaches. If you have a real need, FA is a much more reliable means anyways. Tge draft is more about playing odds while minimuzing risk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I don't think anyone pretends BPA isn't a fluid discussion, otherwise you could upload rankings and let a computer make the pick. It just means you won't let fit or need override clear talent differences. Especially when comparing across positions, objective analysis can only get you so far. The goal of BPA is to get your rating language consistent across all positions and scouts and put the final ratings through rigourous analysis so your final decision has a small of a pool as possible to choose from. 12. Because the Bears big board doesn't match Kipers or yours or whoever. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I think someone thinks Brady Hoke is gonna be our D coordinator. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Its upsetting Marinelli chose to leave, but if that was the collateral damage of changing the overall team's direction, than its worth it. It remains to be seen if Trestman will be the correct choice over Arians or a ton of other candidates, but we weren't going to fix the offense with Lovie in charge. The closest Lovie ever got to putting up an offense was a couple years with Turner. Ironically, I just read yesterday, Lovie interviewed Trestman when talks with Terry Shea almost broke down in 04. Bwahahahaha. So maybe we could have had that dream set up with Lovie's cover 2 and Trestman as HC of the offense, but we're 8 years past that now. Lovie never managed to put together an offensive staff and it would have been silly to give him even one more chance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I fail to see any evidence that is the deal with McClellin. He was widely regarded as a late riser around the league. He was high second rounder at minimum by the time the draft rolled around. This wasn't some Jerry Angelo over-reach. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. In scouring possible names for DC if they don't go with Hoke; Mel Tucker. You have to figure he leaves Jax now and he's led some good defenses in the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. He can do it for a year. If he waits longer than that time will pass him and he'll be a LB coach and wishing he could be DC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Damn, didn't want to see the whole defensive staff torn apart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Its a joke that means he hasn't tweeted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Well if it happens, Jon Hoke for DC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The younger one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. This just in: Trestman says nice things about guy who's draft stock he was hired to help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. This is what i read on another board: Trestman was with Seifert, then Seifert got fired. He was with Bill Callahan, then Callahan got fired. He was with Dave McGinnis, then McGinnis got fired. Assistants live a vagabond lifestyle. Longevity of stay is not the norm - it's the reason Trestman went to the CFL. So at least some instances of him moving on when a new HC comes in. Maybe if you looked further some other moves were upgrades. And there have been results offensively, no matter what decision makers decide about him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Emery is an info junkie. He'll pick Treatman's brain about players and get tons of feedback. When its decision time, it will be Emery's to make. But Emery will obviously be influenced after picking his brain, just as he will be influenced by scouts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. The Bears are going to have to offer serious extensions to the staff they want to keep on. There has to be payback for forcing them to avoid interviews these past few weeks. I'd offer a serious extension to Marinelli and the DB coach. If Babich wants to force his way out thats fine. Not sure about anyone else, but the DB coach is the only guy I've ever heard about being a candidate for promotion, although if there was an actual opportunity for a DC promotion I'm sure Emery would have let him go, and still would. If Marinelli stays it shouldn't matter too much for the other D coaches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
