Hmm after getting hyped by the names mentioned that seems underwhelming. Still 4.6 YPC last year and 34 receptions last year in a running back by committee I would say he could just as easily be a Cunningham of Mizell replacement, but he also signed pretty quickly so maybe this is a more serious commitment.

I mean Bell would be a great fit but I am not versed enough with the Bears present and future cap room to say its a good or bad move. At the very least the guarantees in a deal should be gone by the time Mitch is extended. They definitely don't have much space. If they really felt it was worth it they could swing it though. But you're re probably going cheap on NB and S. They can also just keep getting creative with the cap by leveraging future cap years. I'd probably be okay with that as going all in on a 2-3 year window, doing a mini blow up in Mitchs first year of his next contract and then picking back up the pieces after that.

Best pace of play change is to shorten the commercial breaks. If every team has to become the Chicago TD Ameritrades or whatever to make up the lost ad revenue, so be it.

I know writers don’t get to pick their own headlines, but a writer should be immediately fired and blacklisted for something like this its a defensible position isnt it? Post-2017 he was two years removed from a 9-war MVP season (as a 22 year old!) and was fresh off a 1.000 OPS season where he was only held back by injury. Post 2019 he was fresh off a downish season where his defense slipped and he was in a market that didn't appear to have a great fit for him. You can argue that a player's worth is different than "what someone will pay for him," but in this context his "worth" is dictated by the market and it's not necessarily wrong that you could have probably held out and gotten him for less. Maybe. Plus that headline last offseason was probably pre-reality check of the tightening of the actual market.

if by superstar you mean the type of player that causes you to win championships...the type there are only a couple of, literally 2 or 3, well yeah...but getting one of those guys is pie in the sky and nothing but luck. i don't think you should or can set out to get that in the vast majority of circumstances...you just hope it falls into your lap. if that's not what you mean, i think lauri has that level of ability. if you don't want to call it a superstar, then whatever a notch below that is... perennial all star or something. he's going to be really damn good. Let's say top 10 player. And we'll define Jimmy Butler as "merely" a top 15 player for a Bulls-centric reference point.

Yea, end of inning would be better, and arguably save more time. Starting pitcher gets into trouble one out in, so you bring in a reliever to close out the inning. Why not let that switch happen the next half inning. (assuming he went two batters, two outs) . Otherwise they can face another batter the next inning and then get pulled, introducing another mid inning pitching switch, where today they'd probably pull the guy after those two outs today.

What's a normal amount of September call ups? That extra 26th man is worth like 5 September call ups from a straight service time perspective.

That ship kind of sailed once they traded for Porter. I think their lack of confidence in FA was even a reason given as to why they made the trade, knowing Porters big cap number. Theyll have some cap room one of the next two seasons, but not max room. They might have cap space the season after, but it will be potentially tricky with cap holds. Edit--Actually they can probably have max space in 2020 if they don't commit much in the way of 2019 FA dollars. That's the AD class. More big names available this summer if they all exercise opt outs. But AD is basically the most likely name to move via trade, so if he was the guy available via trade, just trade for him, rather than wait for FA. Then they can also use this year's space to add pieces and be more appealing to retain AD.

Tank losses=bad. Luckily they're pretty locked into their spot at 4, and even further away from the 6 spot. Which is why I don't give a single horsefeathers if they win games because of young core pieces playing sustainably awesomely, especially with the new lottery rules. Yea I don't actually care either, especially with it being with guys like that. Lopez is basically the only guys who's success is meaningless and even though he has played well he clearly isn't going to start single handedly winning them games. Plus the whole lottery odds changes make the drop from 3 to 5 a lot less severe. It does add to the lower limit they can drop, but not their Zion odds significantly. After Zion, this does seem like a draft where the next best player could go anywhere from 2 to 15.

Those are some really healthy roster needs, four relatively easy and cheap positions to fill + basic OL depth wants and needs. I'd always suggest drafting more valuable/expensive positions like more CBs, more pass rushers, more WR talent, more OL, plus an annual QB and buying in FA at 4/5 of those positions listed. Not that it's predictive yet necessarily, but Paces history: QB-1 RB-3 WR-4 TE-1 OT-1 G/C-4 DT/DE-2 OLB-2 ILB-3 CB-0 S-5 K/P-0
