  1. You can't be serious, especially about the last part.
  2. Anyone hear it? If so, what did he say? If not (well, either way), I will post a link to a podcast as soon as one is available.
  3. yep, he is a pretty emotionless pitcher... ha ha, you're right. he's always pointing at the sky, screaming in rage and showing up opposing hitters on strikeouts. ha ha...maybe somewhere along the line here the definition of emotion has been lost...i didn't say anything about it being nice to see hill freak out and have an emotional outburst...i just said emotion...feel free to run to the highest mountain on it if you want to And what exactly about Maddux's mound demeanor screams (or even whispers, for that matter) emotion to you?
  4. I really wish people wouldn't complain about LOB totals. It's a good thing. It's what happens when you have a high OBP team. The Cubs lead the NL in runs scored. They're one off the MLB lead.
  5. Off the top of my head, there are at least 2-3 more deserving SS's in the NL.
  6. BTW, Shaq just as obvious as LeBron.
  7. LeBron has probably been the most obvious #1 overall pick since Jordan, yes Ironic that there was an obvious #1 overall pick in Jordan's draft and he wasn't it.
  8. Put a player the quality of Scottie Pippen at LeBron's side, and you're likely to see him win multiple rings.
  9. Do you like Jerry Reinsdorf?
  10. Which is A-OK with me. I'm LOVING how patient he's been so far this season. I hope he keeps it up. There's nothing wrong with striking out (there IS something wrong with being a bad hitter, some of which do happen to strike out a lot). Except having to listen to baseball idiots complain about it on the radio/tv all the time.
  11. Despite what 99% of the general baseball population thinks, more patience will typically = more strikeouts. It's not rocket science, people.
  12. http://markderosa.mlblogs.com/ I thought this was pretty funny (it's from his second most recent post)...
  13. I don't know if you can break it down within a season, but here's his season stats: 2008 - 17.7% LD%, 48.8% GB% 2007 - 20.6% LD%, 41.2% GB% 2006 - 20.3% LD%, 41.3% GB% 2005 - 22.0% LD%, 38.6% GB% His 2006 and 2007 seasons were remarkably consistent. He's flatout struggling in this regard so far this season, although I'm sure his April rates would look a lot different. Jon...what's considered a LD/ground ball/Flyball? Are you asking what a good ratio is? Or how those percentages are actually tallied and determined?
  14. abuck has jokes
  15. No wonder they make no sense when they can't understand the basics. Non-Save Appearances--11 Saves-16 Blown Saves -4 Save %-75% That's an 80% rate. Wow. That is some tasty irony.
  16. Funny, to me it looks like Wood has done well in 1-2 run games and beefed up his stats with a few 3+ run saves.
  17. That doesn't mean I don't want one. I definitely do. Seeing this team go into a playoff series with this offense and two shutdown starters would be nothing short of beautiful.
  18. He's just being realistic. We need another starter if we want to go deep into October. We really don't. It would certainly be nice. But we don't NEED it. The MLB playoffs are quite a bit of a crapshoot, with or without dominant pitching. What we need to do is win 3 out of 5, then 4 out of 7, and 4 out of 7 again.
  19. If there were any semblance of logic in the O's front office, we would have Roberts. Can't really blame Stone for not foreseeing that kind of stupidity. Big mistake by them. Anyway, Hendry has a history of getting major deals done when the Cubs are legit contenders at the deadline (last year notwithstanding). With the Cubs on the cusp of a possible championship season, I could see him giving up whatever it takes (if he has enough, that is) to attempt to secure that championship. We'll see. Possibly. Hendry has never been in a position where he was overwhelmingly ahead of a playoff spot, which is where he would be if the Cubs kept winning at a decent clip. I could easily see Hendry being content with a team that is playing at a 103 win pace and assume that if its good enough to win in the regular season, its good enough to win in October, which we all know its not. I have to take issue with the bolded. It's good enough to win now, and it's good enough to win in October, especially if we have home field advantage. Adding a pitcher would just further improve those chances.
  20. Come 7/31, we and they'll probably have a much better idea what chance they actually have at a playoff spot. Do you honestly see anyone else running away with that division? Cleveland bound to make a run sometime this year. What I think right now is completely inconsequential when the trade deadline actually comes up.

  23. Isn't even better, then, that the Cards are doing the same?
  24. Basically saying that Hendry WILL go after and get a frontline starting pitcher at the deadline to "slot in after Zambrano and dominate." Boers chimes in, "Well, that's if Cleveland stays where they are, right?" (paraphrasing) Stone went, "It could be the big boy from the Indians..." but that regardless, he seemed pretty sure of the fact that Hendry will go this route and has what "a lot of Major League teams want" - major league ready young pitching (and hitting, for that matter). Bernstein went on to make the same joke made here about needing a bigger post game spread. lulz I'm not sure if he's basing that on any info he may have or if he's just logically coming to that conclusion, but again, he seemed very certain of it.
  25. you're missing boxers or briefs
