  1. He does. That's why he said he wanted to pitch game 3 and close it out.
  2. If we win today, that puts Houston 10.5 back and sets the magic number at 6, right? So, after that, am I correct in thinking that a sweep of the Brewers (not assuming anything, just thinking aloud... we could easily lose in that series) would clinch it on Thursday if the Astros lose at least a game in that time period? The sweep would eliminate the Brewers, but wouldn't necessarily eliminate the Astros until they lose another game, I think...
  3. They asked him if he wants the ball in game one/five. Said he wants the ball in game three so he can finish it off after (presumably) Demp and Harden pitch the first two. Don't know if he was serious or if it's just Z being Z like when he said he didn't want the ball on Opening Day, but it might make sense after he voiced his preference for pitching on mounds other than Wrigley's last night. Plus, I could see him wanting to be the one to close it out. He mentioned that he'd want to pitch game 1 of the World Series. Also talked a bit about the no-hitter and how it was so surreal and he mentioned (much like Wood before his 20k game) that, in the bullpen, he didn't feel all that great and was a bit wild, but mostly I just wanted to pass on the stuff he may or may not have revealed about the playoff rotation.
  4. Seriously? Yes, seriously. The Cubs without Wrigley Field just wouldn't be the Cubs to me. Wow. Even more puzzling about this is the fact that you don't even live anywhere near Chicago... Even if you did, though, I still wouldn't get it. [-X What the?? How would he not living anywhere near Chicago mean anything at all? I was raised in Chicago. I lived in downtown Chicago for a year. I'm a Cubs fan. I currently live in Colorado. Does this mean that I don't get to have an opinion about Wrigley Field? Because he doesn't even get to see many games there? I thought that would be fairly clear. I don't know what the part about "getting to have an opinion about Wrigley Field" even means, but being a fan of a ballpark over being a fan of a team makes little sense to me. Being a fan of a ballpark that you only see on TV makes even less sense. Actually, on the other hand, that could be a reason someone like me would be more accepting of a new park, as I see Wrigley's pitfalls every time I go while on TV Wrigley is just a beautiful park and nothing more. That said, I'd miss it and hope they build the new park, whenever that may be, on the same site. Play a year or two at Miller or Comiskey, I don't care. So it makes more sense to you to root for a uniform? To me it's all a part of what makes the Cubs special. To change any of that would make me rethink my undying loyalty. Yes. Fair enough on the edit. I disagree.
  5. No, really, I'm not bitching. I'm agreeing that it makes no sense to have random early regular season football games get more attention on the biggest national sports website than a historic pitching performance toward the end of the season. Am I bothered by it? Not really.
  6. Awesome. I was at Game 5 in Atlanta too. I was also at a Z near-no hitter at Miller Park in 2003... I think he took it into the 8th... lemme check. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL200305140.shtml EDIT - Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I remember what it was now, they got one random BS hit in the 4th inning and I was thinking the whole night about how it might've been a no hitter, hah. Anyway, I was about to go to last night's game when Jon told us there were tickets for Tuesday at Wrigley available, so I went that route. Screw you, Jon! :)
  7. There is a feature right in the middle of the page. There is, but I can't help but agree with Mizzou here. Why the hell isn't it the main story? I know football is more popular in this country than baseball, but wtf is a run of the mill football story in September doing as the main story over a Cubs no-hitter in September? Man, people sure do like to whine. The lead story on ESPN.com changes all the time. I would bet Z's no hitter was right there at one point. It's got it's own little feature with multiple story links right in the middle at the top of the front page. Quit bitching and enjoy the moment. It wasn't. At least not last night and not since this morning (in fact, it was pretty much the same last night as it is now). Maybe sometime overnight it was, but I highly doubt that. And I'm not bitching. Just agreeing with Mizzou. I hadn't even said a word about it till now.

  10. As bad as they've been playing, they will be amped for this upcoming series. Or they'll just continue to really suck and we'll (if we also win today) eliminate them from the division race.
  11. What has changed? I was on here 3 years ago saying a new stadium wouldn't be bad and was thoroughly and completely lambasted for it by pretty much everyone on the board. I doubt that. There are plenty of us that would be ok with or even in favor of a new park. There's also a huge vocal segment that would be fiercely against it. I'm honestly not sure who makes up the majority, though. I dunno about a retractable roof though. I guess it can't hurt to have one, but it makes stadiums look more like monstrosities. I would love to have something that looks anything like my favorite ballpark (on TV, still haven't been there), which is SF's.
  12. Are you running for office by any chance? Ha. Just giving my opinion. It's not all that realistic to expect them to stay in a building from the 1910's for a whole lot longer (a whole lot meaning 10 years maybe? depends on if they totally gut and rebuild Wrigley or not, as has been discussed).
  13. I would love to stay at Wrigley for as long as they can, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they tore it down and got a new building. I would miss Wrigley but there's a whole lot about a new park that would be awesome, too. 25
  14. Seriously? Yes, seriously. The Cubs without Wrigley Field just wouldn't be the Cubs to me. Wow. Even more puzzling about this is the fact that you don't even live anywhere near Chicago... Even if you did, though, I still wouldn't get it. I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, so I have spent many a day at Wrigley. Personally, I don't understand how anyone could not love Wrigley that much. It is legendary, a baseball icon. I'm not even a Red Sox fan but I would be pissed if they tore down Fenway. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I like the history of great old ballparks like these. It's more than just a game to me. Would you be OK if they took away the pinstripes? Or changed their colors to green or orange? There are some things that should not be messed with. Ironically, I would love it if they did that (and I've made it known on here a few times lol), and I don't see how it would be such a huge affront to tradition if they did. It would be more of a throw-back if they went pinstripe-less, if anything. Either way, I can understand an attachment to the park. I don't understand that attachment having a higher priority than an attachment to the team. Plus there's just the reality of the fact that they can't play in a building from the 1910's forever. I like Wrigley, but I would like a new stadium a lot, too.

  16. Seriously?
  17. Brenly pointed out that his arm slot looked great.
  18. Amazing I'm busting
  19. Thanks for the heads up Jon! That method just got me a pair in 429 row 4...
  20. Why squeeze two games into one day in an already difficult stretch when the game might not be necessary at all (almost surely won't be for us)...
  21. lol guy on ESPNEWS just said they had breaking news... Said they'd play tomorrow night and Monday afternoon... Graphic said "Cubs-Astros series moved to Milwaukee" while the guy said "both games will be played at Minute Maid Park in Houston." How fitting with the way this has all gone. I have to believe the anchor is wrong, since the other reports are saying Milwaukee too and there's no way in hell they could play in MMP tomorrow night.
  22. Considering we don't even know that there is any game tomorrow, I doubt it. If there is a night game tomorrow (whether it's just a night game or the second part of a day-night DH), I think it might have to be blacked out because of ESPN having exclusive rights to the Sunday night timeslot (hence why there are never any other Sunday night games scheduled). I don't know for sure if that's the case, though, nor do I know if they can/would be willing to make any exceptions.
  23. I'm definitely pulling for the Brewers to win one of two tomorrow. The Phillies scare me only a little less than Arizona does. I would prefer the Brewers just lose every game and we wrap up the division with about 6 games left in the season. We'd wrap it up much sooner than that if they lose every game, especially when you consider that 3 of those games are against the Cubs....
  24. It amazes me that the disposition of the crowd matters that much to players...wtf? They're still getting the last at bat. That's the real advantage to playing at home.
