    They're facing a talented but struggling NL Central team trying desperately to clinch a playoff spot despite an injured ace and an underperforming supporting cast; the resemblance is certainly there, no? To the 2008 Cubs? Not really. The only part that's really even close about that comparison is the injured ace part, but the situations really aren't comparable even in that specific case.

    I was worried he'd struggle today on normal rest after coming back off the break with a 110 pitch outing. If he was gonna suck, I'm glad he got knocked around quickly and had a fairly short outing.

    A string of luck? Only a true fanatic would've believed in JUNE that the Cubs would be in the playoffs? What? I love when people who know even less about sports than sportswriters write about them.

    The rumor around Wrigleyville "people" is that the guy's plan ultimately is to get out of any agreement with Budweiser and tear the thing down and install one of those giant LCD billboards in its place. He'd sell out advertising and, supposedly, attempt to lease out space to the Cubs to use it as a JumboTron. Don't shoot the messenger. Just what I heard from people that know people.

    Speaking of shirts, any not-so-secret pics of the Division Championship gear? I don't really buy the stuff anymore (got a shirt in 03 and 98) because it's sort of pointless, but it's kinda fun to see the stuff.

    That's going a little far. It really just doesn't matter how much worse the rest of these teams are than us. Not in 5 or 7 games. It's not a complete crapshoot, but each series is still fairly close to being a coinflip. I hate to beat a dead horse with that point, but you hear so many people talking about how much of a failure it would be if they don't pull it off this year that it just needs to be said. Don't set playoff expectations too high and try to enjoy the ride. Easier said than done, though.

    I was at the game last night and I was in complete disbelief last night when I saw Howry coming in. I could not believe it. A close game, no less. It's not often I get that pissed off over a pitching change. I really, really don't know what to say about that at this point.

    LOL! The Lastros lost... nice, so 2 more wins against the Blewers and we have the division! Oh it's so great... how nice it will be to rub it into the face of the ever-tiny Brewers Nation if we clinch at home against THEM. SOOO PERFECT! Do you really need to continue to uses these [expletive] and completely unfunny names when talking about other teams? You've been doing it for the last week or so (at least as I can remember) and it's getting quite annoying. I agree the names are pretty lame, but that was kinda mean, lol.

    The only way you have to choose between the two (Pie and Fuk) is if the Cubs decide to carry 12 pitchers (SSR does a great job breaking this down about 5 posts up). I would be pretty shocked if that is what the cubs decided to do given the breaks between games give the bullpen more rest than during the regular season. I would be too. I'm just passing on what I saw in the paper. Can't figure out why I can't find it online.
