  1. Depends on the state. 17 is legal in IL
  2. If we play a double header Sunday, can we even watch a Sunday night game? Wouldn't it be blacked out due to ESPN? I thought ESPN had exclusive rights to any Sunday night baseball games (which is why there is only one every week)...
  3. I would love to see the difference in run expectancy between the extreme absolute worst possible lineup (worst to best 1-9) vs. the best possible over the course of 15 games.
  4. Perhaps because it gives better hitters more PA and in doing so, increases our chances at scoring more runs, which increases our chances of winning. That's the goal, right? The increase in all of that, especially with like 15 games left, is so miniscule, that it's not even worth talking about and even less worth the possibility that it freaks the players out, because a move like that, after 145ish games and in the midst of a bad stretch, reeks of panic.
  5. Note that blog has a big banner up attempting to sell ad-space... This and the Cuban story smell like an attempt to get a rush of visitors to this blog quickly.
  6. We can do some serious damage to that magic number with the head to head games coming up. Every win = -2.
  7. At least some of us have Bears (or football in general).... you don't even like that. Sucks
  8. Except he said it like 3 days ago after he got done blowing a save, which makes it all the more mindblowing.
  9. Truth be told, though, I hope to not remember many of these things in about a month and a half. The fact that NLDS Game 5 and the Yankee and Cardinal series are the highlights of 03 for me is a sad one.
  10. Something tells me the Cubs are going to take 2 from the Astros, all but eliminating them from the division title. Um... They're all but eliminated already
  11. Cedeno's million RBIs in two games vs the Mets Pie's single vs. Pitt Edmonds's catch at Houston when we still thought he sucked Edmonds batflip vs. Cards Aramis's batflip vs. Giants
  12. This was from last year, wasn't it? Are they still pledging to do this?
  13. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php Cubs are now 95.24% for the division in the standard odds report 95.4% - PECOTA version 94.3% - ELO version As it stands, odds are pretty damn good we win this division.
  14. Guys, nilo isn't dumb.
  15. FWIW, the Canning out, Cuban highest bidder were actually reported as news... the other parts are more like speculation from Barry Rozner and some blogger who claims to have sources. That said, there was always speculation that Canning could make his way back in through another group, somehow, but there hasn't been any indication that that has happened up till now. How are some of these guys going to find the money to get this done with the present state of the economy? Cuban is one of the few who can actually do it.
  16. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=233589 First of all, how is exactly is that unlikely? Hasn't it been reported (maybe heavily speculated) that Cuban was the high bidder through the first round of bids? Also, he keeps talking about Canning. He flat out says that Canning is one of the leading candidates. Up till now, and we haven't heard any actual reports that would indicate that anything has changed (un-sourced claims by a hack columnist like Rozner aside), wasn't Canning eliminated in the first round? He doesn't even address that this happened, does he? To me this just sounds like more of the same people who just don't think Cuban will get approved, and don't necessarily know anything.
  17. that you did.... it's too early for me to get into smart ass mode
  18. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEtRQqXN_Ak Enjoy
  19. hahahha beat you
  20. Deadspin is just citing the same story. This isn't any kind of confirmation.
  21. I'm guessing you mean Astros And I agree... And it's gonna be LA
  22. the "way" down in the thread title plus the "not the same pitcher anymore" does reek a little bit of panic/oh noees just imo
  23. Oh, he was talking about division vs. wild card.. ok, got it...
  24. It's not pointless. It illustrated my point effectively. :P  :) :?:   :|
  25. If we split with the Brewers we have the tiebreaker with them. If we go 2-4 we don't. If we split with the Mets we have the tiebreaker with them. If we go 1-3 we don't. So the "right" wins and our magic numbers could actually be less. I try not to watch road games because I can't handle the pressure. After seeing the replays I am sure I would have enjoyed the end, but I may have preserved a few days of my life. Huh? What tie-breaker? Wouldn't it be a one game playoff? Do they have actual tie breakers like that for the home field or don't they just flip coins...? Maybe I'm confused about something...
