  1. Who are these guys? Never heard of 'em.
  2. Why would you hope he's up and down the dl? Why??? I believe he meant that he would hope for Kerry to come back and pitch well enough to be worthy of Comeback Player, and be disappointed but not surprised if he keeps shuttling back and forth between the DL. I believe he was joking.
  3. That is not a possibility, it's a disastrous option. Pagan could start for the team. It would suck and the team would suffer because of it, but he could do it. Ryan Theriot could start at third base if Aramis walks or is injured. Neifi could start at SS. All these things could happen, and they would all suck if they did. If his future role on this team is starter it most likely means Pie is a bust and Hendry fails to field a good OF, again. All of that is yet to be seen. My point is it's a realistic possibility. A terrifying, worst-case scenario possibility that would more than justify firing Jim Hendry/Dusty on the spot (as if it weren't justified already).
  4. I have to admit... I used to crack up when Tavarez would roll the ball over to McGriff.
  5. Last year at this time it looked just as bad. It was tempered by the fact that we expected to have 3 infielders with .850+ OPSs and one at .800+... plus Barrett was above average at his position. This year, we don't even have that... Nomar's expected production was big...Lots more question marks going into this one...
  6. When you consider our 5th and 6th hitters, it's not that ridiculous. There's a very good possibility that production from the leadoff spot will be terrible too. All depends on whether or not Pierre can get his average back up.
  7. I always thought it was about exploiting deficiencies in the market... Pretty much. But I guess it's a lot easier to not read that book and just say it's all about OBP.
  8. And Brenly continues to perpetuate the myth that Moneyball is about OBP...
  9. What attitude? Dude.. He like talks too much to the media and tells the truth, man!!!111oneone
  10. ???? Seriously.... What does that even mean???
  11. They are talking about the most recent game. Corey was 1-15 leading up to that... Thanks for pointing that out. It's not like the original post said that explicitly or anything... LOL
  12. I totally forgot it was coming out.. I am now going to try and find some place that sells books and is open 24 hours, LOL..
  13. yeah, that was the problem. these guys really can't be that oblivious to walks, can they? You know the answer to that. I've heard or read very little that says the Cubs coaching staff recognizes the value of a walk. I don't think it would shock a lot of people if we characterized the Cubs current set of coaches and manager as "old school", when batting average was the stat that measured a successful hitter. However, there is plenty of evidence that Hendry recognizes the value of OBP given that he has acquired Nomar, Ramirez, Lee, Grudz/Walker/Hairston, Murton, Pierre, Miller/Barrett and promoted Dubois who all have higher OBPs than their predecessors. Jones does not, but it is clear that Jacque was not Hendry's first choice to play RF this season. Why he has stuck with Baker who is responsible for hiring his coaching staff, I don't know. I'm not sure that's exactly a great list of hitters that anyone would classify as "patient." Now, Aramis and Nomar have been good enough hitters that they make up for their lack of patience..but of his acquisitions, none has impressed me very much in this regard. Maybe Lawton.
  14. Well if he continues to play LF, he'll save us by not allowing Hendry to trade for him. Murton and Pie for Soriano. What about a Mutton Pie for Soriano? Soriano's got nothin' on this mutton..
  15. Grow up. :?: Bush is a moronic puppet. What's there to grow up about? Is this really necessary? Take it to rants if you're so intent on beating a dead horse.
  16. But...but...but... He went to two world series in 7 years! That means something right? Never mind he played for the Yankees. They were there because of him. The Marlins made it because of Alex Gonzalez, the White Sox because of Juan Uribe, the Angels because of Adam Kennedy, the Diamondbacks because of Tony Womack, and the Red Sox because of Orlando Cabrera. No, no.. The Sox won the Series because of the gritty, hard-nosed Scott Podsenik. Didn't you know?
  17. Kyle Orton...you remember 3rd string, right? Time to get reacquainted.
  18. I agree. But I wouldn't mind an owner that would take a more proactive approach to winning. For some raeson, I could picture Mark Cuban going out and offering Billy Beane or Theo Epstein an absurd amount of money to come here, and then giving them lots of freedom to go out and get the best players they can with that much money. Think Red Sox...not Yankees...
  19. I wouldn't say we got pretty good value for either, regardless of situation. Let's not forget Juan Cruz...
  20. this is what i was thinking. Unrealistic. Dusty wouldn't recognize it as a stupid idea. He might not recognize it as stupid, but he would recognize that he'd get ripped to shreds by people who think it's stupid. Probably. Then again, Dusty thinks everyone is out to get him.
  21. Robin Jennings, Doug Glanville, Pedro Valdes, anyone?
  22. this is what i was thinking. Unrealistic. Dusty wouldn't recognize it as a stupid idea.
  23. :?: :?: :?: :?:
  24. Clemens sucks. He only had 13 wins last season. Mike Maroth had 14. He's better. Right on, dude! And in 04, Randy Johnson was trash. Sean Estes was way better.
