Not that it matters, since Ryan was wrong to say that anyway, but whoever told you that hispanics/latinos can't be black? It's not mutually exclusive at all. There are "Latinos" of all races: white, black, various "mixes" (sounds wrong but I can't think of a better word) etc. I'm a white Cuban. Entirely European descent. There are black Cubans (of African descent) too. The same goes for the South/Central American countries, only the Native Americans are much more prominent there. They weren't wiped out by the settlers to the extent that they were here and in Cuba. The label is just a creation of mainly this country as a product of our country's diversity. Very convenient to lump everyone from Spanish speaking countries into one group even though racially and culturally they are all very different. Sorry to go off on a history lesson/rant, the topic just strikes a cord (is it chord?) with me, I guess because I'm constantly hearing, "You're Cuban? But you look white!"
