  1. Got 6 to Saturday 7/14 vs. Astros Got 4 to Sunday 8/19 vs. Cards VWR'ing as we speak.
  2. If Prior is as healthy and strong as the reports coming out are indicating thus far, Miller will definitely not be in the rotation. At least for the time being, Marquis is going to have a spot.
  3. I wish I had quoted my guarantee that Hill would be in this year's rotation in my sig. That way I could just post "Points to sig."
  4. Same... Also forgot that the Big Unit was back with the D'Backs. I remembered the rumors, but completely missed when it became official.
  5. He looks like Ryan Howard...without the injury luck. Fixed. Cliff Floyd has been a pretty damn good player in his career when healthy. I mean, he's no Ryan Howard, but a damn good hitter when he's been healthy.
  6. The more I've thought about it, the more I realized that I hope the Cubs never do take the closer job from Dempster. Not because they should stay loyal to him or because he has proven he is capable of closing out a game or any of that blah blah blah mess, though. I'd rather have our best reliever, which Wood should be, coming into the game in high pressure situations when the game is on the line (i.e. coming in in the 7th or 8th for a struggling pitcher w/RISP) than in save situations where the pitcher is set up for success, always with a lead and almost always with a fresh start to the 9th inning.
  7. So were the Colts. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods have been on it more than a few times, too.
  8. I'm pretty sure we are all just having a little fun with it.
  9. No, no.. 2004 was the "Hell freezes over," year... http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2004/0405_large.jpg
  10. Of course, right after I dismiss the ridiculous notion of a curse, I remember this.. http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2003/0707_large.jpg :pukel:
  11. It might be a shot at us. It also might just be a reference to their own curse... Or it could be both.
  12. Yea, I mean how many curses can you pile on before they no longer make an impact? Once a towel is wet, it's wet, right?
  13. It was mentioned in a couple of the papers that the SI guys were at camp last week to take some pictures. Thought I'd share the result for those who haven't seen it. http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2007/0226_large.jpg Mods, go ahead and merge this with the picture thread if you think it's necessary.
  14. While the Prior and Wood injury problems have been huge, I think the biggest reason this team went to crap were the changes made after 2004. Keep in mind that the 2004 Cubs were well on their way to one of their best seasons in decades when the great collapse started at Shea, that despite getting only decent production (at best) out of the Prior/Wood combo that year. Hendry didn't adequately replace Sosa and Alou. Then Nomar got hurt at the start of 05 and our offense was really in the hole. Then he tried to go small ball and get guys that can catch, and we were treated to the suckitude of Juan Pierre. These moves had just as much, if not more, to do with the Cubs sucking from 2005-present as the Prior and Wood situations.
  15. That's not what he's saying at all.
  16. I dunno. My first really was 98. I was only 6 years old for 89. But I think about 2003 and 2004 a lot more than the 98 team. The fact that the Cubs didn't really come close again after 69 until 84 plays a role, too, I suppose.
  17. If the Cubs win, what would that mean in terms of dollars? I'm guessing, if vance's reasoning is correct, it would mean an Oswalt-like one year salary. According to ESPN.com, he's making 11,000,000. Off the top of my head, the firgures are like 11.5 from the Cubs and 15 from Z. Right, I'm a moron. Nevermind.
  18. If the Cubs win, what would that mean in terms of dollars? I'm guessing, if vance's reasoning is correct, it would mean an Oswalt-like one year salary. According to ESPN.com, he's making 11,000,000.
  19. Aramis arrived at camp today. They just mentioned it in passing on the Score update. Guess it was much ado about nothing, anyway. ARam bashers are going to have to find something else to jump on. I'm sure they'll be all over the pictures to see if he's fat or something.
  20. Well, to be fair, the 69 team did win 92 games. They just didn't finish in first. And they didn't have the benefit of playing in a more inclusive playoff system like nowadays. It wasn't because they were great at sac-fly RBIs, though. Still, it's pretty sad that Cubs fans still talk about the 69 team. At least as Bears fans we have 1985, which is at least under 3 decades ago. And they actually won a championship. It's pretty crazy when you think about it... A team that started out hot and collapsed late in the season... Doesn't that happen all the time? Hell, in 2001 and 2004 it happened to the Cobs. Yet people still talk about that team all the time. I guess it's also because they had a few future HOFers. Still, I don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm younger.
  21. Stitch was clearly trying to lighten up the thread by making an Office Space reference. I highly doubt he was actually trying to criticize Aramis with his line about doing "the minimum."
  22. He gave up 40 million dollars to stay with the Cubs. He can show up April 1 for all I care I disagree. I hope he made arrangements with Piniella to show up at some point tonight (if he hasn't already made an apperance. A la Carlos calling Lou on the 14th to tell him he'd be there by 8pm). Aramis needs to be in camp on time to workout and get re-focused. Besides, he looked out of shape to me at his press conference. Whether he's a day or two late to camp or not isn't going to change that. Either he was working out and getting in shape at home, or he wasn't.
  23. He gave up 40 million dollars to stay with the Cubs. He can show up April 1 for all I care I say it's 40 million reasons to show up early. The $40 million that he passed up on in favor of staying with the Cubs?
  24. Exactly what IMB said. Plus, even if the hitter was trying to hit a home run, it's not a zero-sum proposition. The hitter could, quite obviously, wind up with a positive result that isn't a home run, even if he was trying to hit a home run (which, incidentally, probably doesn't happen all that often).
