  1. we'd all look fat standing next to the new kerry. i'm more worried about the horrible jumps someone was getting in the OF practice. I'm not sure, but I think that was Pie.
  2. Is that Kerry messing around behind him? Looks like his face. Looks like his glove. Look like Adidas spikes... looks more like miller, who, incidentally, looks a lot like kerry. on second inspection, yes, it probably is wood. he's lost a ton of weight as well. What's with the normal size calves on Prior? I think he let up on training them since the whole Achilles deal. They've been smaller for a couple years now. Still, they'd probably look bigger with the stirrups showing.
  3. Well, Scott Eyre's still fat.
  4. And if Prior returns to 2003 form? Best team in the NL? Probably. It's pretty crazy how big of an x-factor Mark is, but he would instantly make our rotation tons better.
  5. Assuming everyone is healthy? Z, Prior, Hill, Lilly, Gooz I like. They aren't going to pay Marquis $7million to not be in the rotation. Like it or not, it's just reality I'm not so sure about that. I believe when Lou says that he's going to have the top 5 guys in the rotation. Nah, Derwood is right. Marquis is going to have to impressively crap the bed for a good amount of time for him to get knocked out of the rotation.

Like it or not, it's just reality I'm saying what should be done in the situation you presented. Not what will be done. Big difference, especially when talking about the Cubs.

  8. aka the Hawpe-pocalypse.
  9. + Gooz Does Guzman really even have that potential anymore after all the injuries and whatnot? He did show some good stuff at times last year but overall I've kinda been considering him an afterthough in the Cubs rotational plans. Reports are that he got his command and his curveball back over the winter. Fleita likes what he's been seeing. And his change should have improved too, you could tell he was rusty and feeling his way back last season. That K/BB ratio in Venezuela was sexy. Definitely. The fact that he pitched however many innings in winterball, though, probably can't bode well for his chances to be an effective starter for most or all of this season, can it?

The AP caption says it is Kerry. Booyah... Dave - 1 Sulley - 0

  12. Definitely. I find myself really hoping that Guzman can take Marquis spot eventually to be a solid #5 in that scenario. Reminds me of 2003 and how I wanted Cruz to have Estes's spot before ST even started.
  13. I feel the same way.
  14. Is that a goatee Prior trying to grow? If it was maybe he's finally trying to "man up" this yr. I think he's just going for the Todd Walker 5 o'clock shadow look.

  16. Muskat said the rotation was Z/Lilly/Marquis with everyone else competing for the other 2 spots. link "Muskat said" and a quote from Piniella are two very different pieces of information.
  17. Wow, Blanco speaks LATIN too? I thought he just knew Spanish and English. LMFAO

  19. they said that last year and who won the WS? I like the article emphasis that we paid. too much for mediocre players like Lilly and DeRosa A very average team that would've had no business being in the playoffs if not for a largely awful National League?
  20. Remember Z's 120 win prediction?
  21. For a while, it looked like they just might do it in 97.
  22. For Jacque, Gorilla Glue his bat to his shoulder and throw sliders down and in all day. I had almost forgotten about that. I can't imagine why anyone would attack him with anything other than a slider low and in.
  23. I hope we can pull a 2004 trade deadline and replace our biggest offensive black hole at SS with a superstar (or at least a solid player). Maybe Tejada'll be available. That would probably only push the win total by a couple wins, considering the length of time he'd be on the team, but it would definitely make for a stronger lineup in the playoffs.
  24. I can't disagree. Remember what Pentland did for Sammy? Whether you think he was on the roids or not, there was a definite change in Sammy's approach in 98 and after. That said, Aramis is further along at this point in his career than pre-98 Sammy, and I think he's already closer to his ceiling, so I don't expect an insane jump in his numbers. Soriano is also a guy who could benefit from the right approach.
  25. Didn't he lead a turnaround somewhat like that with Pittsburgh's offense? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. It's been so long since all those hires were made and all the fluff pieces were coming out. At the very least, it has to be cause for optimism that you're going from a coach/staff preaching quite possibly one of the worst approaches at the plate imaginable, to a guy who seems to "get it" pretty well.
