  1. He's growing that creepy cork-era goatee again. I'm convinced that that thing was the cause of his lost ability to hit the low and outside pitch.

  3. Would Izturis (last year of contract), Cedeno (or Theriot), Jacque (to get rid of some salary), Guzman, and get it done for Tejada?   Soriano Tejada Lee Ramirez Floyd/Pie Barrett Murton DeRosa Thats an awful trade. You're giving up 2 middling level middle infielders, a mediocre outfielder, a middling pitching prospect and another pitching prospect for a bona-fide star? What? How did that make sense in your head? First, a pitching prospect who throws 95 mph with command and nasty breaking pitches like Gooz is more than just "middling." Second, bona-fide stars get traded for crap packages around a couple of prospects all the time. They're called salary dumps. Now, whether or not Baltimore would do such a deal is definitely in question, but the point stands.
  4. Did Hamilton ever actually play for Lou? That might've had something to do with them not being interested in him for our purposes.

  6. Except they offer no speed or defense and combine to block two of our best prospects. How exactly is Ward blocking anyone? Care to respond to my statements about what they actually CAN do? You know, something that has been definitively proven rather than merely hoped for? Well, Ward is blocking Cliff Floyd's spot on the bench for one...and looking at these guys' recent history I don't see them as any more proven than top AAA talent. They wouldn't be hanging on if it weren't for experience. Ward's recent production shows he was one of the best pinch hitters in the Major Leagues. [sarcasm] Yea, but we need speed and defense, man. [/sarcasm]
  7. Dang, I should probably be more clear with the sarcasm. Now that I read it, it definitely isn't that easy to tell. My bad. I think Sarcastic made a good point and it didn't get much attention. Prior definitely did throw the two seamer in the low 90's. Not 89, but 91-92, usually. It was his 4-seamer that he would hit the mid 90's with.
  8. I don't feel like reading all the new posts, so maybe someone has already mentioned this, but maybe he was throwing the two seamer (which he generally threw low 90's) at 85-86 and he was throwing the four seamer (which he threw in the mid 90's) when he hit 89. Would seem to make sense.
  9. Looks like the wrist straps may or may not say "Soriano," also.
  10. There should really never be another Cub referred to by this name.
  11. He did have a pretty nice rebound in 96, though.
  12. I've made that comparison many times over the past few seasons. Great, now I'm confused all over again.
  13. Angel? Whoops....Freudian slip! Angel Guzman. Yes....Angel, that's the man. Ahh, too early in the morning for me. I should've realized that. Here I was Googling Juan Guzman to see if there were any stories of him recovering lost velocity or something.
  14. If they did, Woody was nearing 100.
  15. Aren't the apostrophes in "Matthews'" being used incorrectly? I thought it was only on a plural posessive that you didn't include an 's' at the end, but when the subject actually ends in an 's,' you do. Have I been wrong all these years? i.e. The boys' bags were lost. (plural subject) vs. Gary Matthews's contract is a joke. (singular subject that ends in 's') EDIT - I've looked it up, and, apparently, informally, people generally don't use the extra 's' if it's awkward in conversation/pronunciation. I don't like that answer. I want the formal rules, damnit!
  16. Wow. Welcome to the forum, though!
  17. Check the Bears thread-the Bears only moved up in the second round from #63 to #37, they didn't actually get an extra second rounder. Yea, a second round pick would've been good. Moving up in the second round, not so much.
  18. Cool thansk. Just turned it on... We traded Thomas Jones?!?!? To the Jets for a second round pick??? Really? Not a bad return. I hadn't heard that.
  19. Seriously? Oh God. What about Wood, what did he top out at? Heh, you see, that's actually good news, not bad. At least, relatively. ;)
  20. Obviously, he wasn't pitching well last year, but I remember him topping off at around 89 in his first few starts and was up into the 92-93 range by a few starts after he was brought up, am I right? I also seem to remember us freaking out about Wood throwing in the low 90's when he first came back last year. Am I remembering any of this wrong?
  21. I'm not so sure about that. Right now, for the foreseeable future, he's in the bullpen. But in a couple of years, or even next year, I could see him starting again. Heh, guess I should've read EJ's post.
  22. It's called PASSION! No it's called overreacting/total lack of baseball perspective. It's spring training, and means little. Particularly, for a pitcher injured for the majority of 2 years. As long as has normal soreness, and isn't hurt, today was a good day. If he's throwing 85 at the end of ST, then worry. It's part of the fan base. Go to Boston and NY message board and you'll get the same thing...Cubs fans are passionate. Passion is fine. Thinking the man is done pitching after 40 pitches in his first ST game in 2 years after 2 years of being away with injuries, is a little different than passion. I love this team with tons of passion. I'm just not going to meltdown due to one bad outing by Prior. Let's see how he progresses through ST. You can't tell me you're not a little worried about the fact that he was only throwing 83-85. Being a little worried and completely flipping out and going off the deep end aren't exactly the same thing.
