  1. When were you in high school? 94-98 Very possible, then.

  3. Pretty good piece from Bruce on Matt. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=284097 I love that he's writing about this kind of stuff and trying to get this school of thought out to the mainstream. Unfortunately, I doubt that the general public will be very receptive to this stuff anytime very soon. I bet he gets tons of emails from old-school types asking what the hell he's talking about or why he would write a whole article about someone's patient approach at the plate instead of taking jabs at Aramis Ramirez's hustle.
  4. They won't be skipping starts. Lou has said as much.
  5. Maybe this'll take some attention away from the ticket thread... New pics.. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20402231936.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg204.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20502231934.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg205.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20302231930.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg203.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20202231927.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg202.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070223/capt.azmg20102231925.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg201.jpg Probably the only two players I really dislike on this roster... (Novoa and Izturis)
  6. This is the first year since 2003 that he's been on or ahead of schedule going into spring training. He went on a specialized workout regimen for his shoulder over the offseason. Reports from camp are that he's not just throwing, but throwing extremely well. Better than he has in years. BTW, 2005 Prior was a pretty good pitcher himself. I don't see the anomaly that was 2006 Prior returning. These are not the same stories we hear ever year, not even close. Other years they've said that he'd be ready to start the season but there hasn't been any reason to believe that. This year there's no reason to believe he wouldn't be ready.
  7. Haven't been able to get any of the huge series.. but at least I haven't been stuck getting the really crappy ones. Got four more.. Saturday 9/1 vs. Astros Hopefully the Stros won't be completely crappy.
  8. Got 6 to Saturday 7/14 vs. Astros Got 4 to Sunday 8/19 vs. Cards VWR'ing as we speak.
  9. If Prior is as healthy and strong as the reports coming out are indicating thus far, Miller will definitely not be in the rotation. At least for the time being, Marquis is going to have a spot.
  10. I wish I had quoted my guarantee that Hill would be in this year's rotation in my sig. That way I could just post "Points to sig."
  11. Same... Also forgot that the Big Unit was back with the D'Backs. I remembered the rumors, but completely missed when it became official.
  12. He looks like Ryan Howard...without the injury luck. Fixed. Cliff Floyd has been a pretty damn good player in his career when healthy. I mean, he's no Ryan Howard, but a damn good hitter when he's been healthy.
  13. The more I've thought about it, the more I realized that I hope the Cubs never do take the closer job from Dempster. Not because they should stay loyal to him or because he has proven he is capable of closing out a game or any of that blah blah blah mess, though. I'd rather have our best reliever, which Wood should be, coming into the game in high pressure situations when the game is on the line (i.e. coming in in the 7th or 8th for a struggling pitcher w/RISP) than in save situations where the pitcher is set up for success, always with a lead and almost always with a fresh start to the 9th inning.
  14. So were the Colts. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods have been on it more than a few times, too.
  15. I'm pretty sure we are all just having a little fun with it.
  16. No, no.. 2004 was the "Hell freezes over," year... http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2004/0405_large.jpg
  17. Of course, right after I dismiss the ridiculous notion of a curse, I remember this.. http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2003/0707_large.jpg :pukel:
  18. It might be a shot at us. It also might just be a reference to their own curse... Or it could be both.
  19. Yea, I mean how many curses can you pile on before they no longer make an impact? Once a towel is wet, it's wet, right?
  20. It was mentioned in a couple of the papers that the SI guys were at camp last week to take some pictures. Thought I'd share the result for those who haven't seen it. http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2007/0226_large.jpg Mods, go ahead and merge this with the picture thread if you think it's necessary.
  21. While the Prior and Wood injury problems have been huge, I think the biggest reason this team went to crap were the changes made after 2004. Keep in mind that the 2004 Cubs were well on their way to one of their best seasons in decades when the great collapse started at Shea, that despite getting only decent production (at best) out of the Prior/Wood combo that year. Hendry didn't adequately replace Sosa and Alou. Then Nomar got hurt at the start of 05 and our offense was really in the hole. Then he tried to go small ball and get guys that can catch, and we were treated to the suckitude of Juan Pierre. These moves had just as much, if not more, to do with the Cubs sucking from 2005-present as the Prior and Wood situations.
  22. That's not what he's saying at all.
  23. I dunno. My first really was 98. I was only 6 years old for 89. But I think about 2003 and 2004 a lot more than the 98 team. The fact that the Cubs didn't really come close again after 69 until 84 plays a role, too, I suppose.
  24. If the Cubs win, what would that mean in terms of dollars? I'm guessing, if vance's reasoning is correct, it would mean an Oswalt-like one year salary. According to ESPN.com, he's making 11,000,000. Off the top of my head, the firgures are like 11.5 from the Cubs and 15 from Z. Right, I'm a moron. Nevermind.
