  1. Belli bombs in NY?
  2. Is Warren more of a 2nd piece or 3rd piece in a potential Tucker deal? In other words would we be looking at: Paredes + Smith/Caissie/Shaw/Alcantara + Warren Or Paredes + Warren + someone outside of the organizational top 10? I’m guessing the former?
  3. Yup, we’re in agreement. I absolutely believe he had some information. I’m not going to go too hard on a college kid. There's thousands of aspiring Jeff Passans out there who get morsels of valid information. Learning what’s actually worth sharing comes with experience, I’m sure. I never put too much stock into a deal actually being completed mostly because the overwhelming majority of rumored trades—especially three-team trades—fail. But anyway, yeah, Cubs being among 10 interested teams and not being the team to pull off a deal is not automatically a Jed failure.
  4. Sure, but even Trueblood said it wouldn’t have passed his personal standard of reportability, right? Other than Zanolla and that one White Sox guy, was the three team deal being reported? Not at all saying that talks didn’t happen. I’m sure they did. Another report said the White Sox were talking to as many as ten different teams about a Crochet deal. I’m sure numerous permutations of trades got “close.” I know Morosi called the Cubs a “viable candidate.” Otherwise, I never got the impression the Cubs were a favorite. To say that every pundit on the internet had the Cubs as the favorite is not true. Also, yeah, Crochet was a very good starting pitcher last year. He also comes with quite a bit of risk. If Jed wants to use his prospect capital elsewhere, I’m not losing any sleep over it.
  5. Wasn’t it more like one kid with a twitter account?
  6. I know Jed hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt with a lot of folks and I get it, but there’s a lot of hand wringing going on over village idiot Jesse Rogers’ gut feeling.
  7. Trade for the very good player. Figure out the rest later.
  8. I know it’s not this simple as there’ll surely be prospect capital added, but spinning Morel into Paredes into Tucker in a matter of four months sure would be something.
  9. Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the Cubs Kyle Tucker hopes? Eliminates the main competition but lessens the likelihood of a Tucker trade? Unless the Astros find a Cubs offer so appealing they’re content to lose both players, it seems more bad than good.
  10. Apparently he’s a contributor at this very site! No idea what kind of connections he has. Interesting idea though. Crochet, Steele, Shota, Taillon, Boyd is a fascinating rotation. I know pitch shape has taken over handedness, but my lizard brain still can’t comprehend a rotation with four lefties.
  11. Season end right now they pick 14. They’re last in line among the 4-6 teams due to having the most difficult SOS.
  12. Honestly I love it. I feel like this was always the Izzo approach. Schedule a tough out of conference, which sometimes means getting into the tourney as a 6 seed or whatever, but by that point you’ve racked up all kinds of experience against top level competition. It might be a little bumpy early on but I think it’s good for the team in the long run.
  13. The teenager never had it. He tried to grab it out of the guy’s crotch and then whined about not getting it. https://x.com/SInow/status/1837222886014173515
  14. Absolutely. For football in particular. Waking up to the Bears London game and having the whole day left when it ended at 11:30 was the best.
  15. I don’t really get why it’s such a talking point with the bears. The Commanders, Bills and Packers are all four-win teams without wins over top tier opponents. There’s just a lot of bad teams in the NFL.
  16. Wtf happened to the defense? DBs were getting juked out of their shoes left and right.
  17. He asked to be imprisoned only to escape three days later.
  18. At least they should keep their first round pick.
  19. Better than average indeed.
  20. Apocryphal or not, “who wants to sex Mutombo?” is one of my all-time favorite NBA urban legends.
  21. He’s going to have ups and downs all year, but he’s shown week to week improvement each of the past two games. Last week on some deep balls, this week on picking up the pressure and finding his outlet. The short and intermediate passing game was working.
  22. Where are you seeing LG? The tweet you linked says Pryor at RG.
  23. Curious what years you’re considering false positives. I arbitrarily went back to 2002. Here are the times they’ve started 3-1 or 4-0: 2007: 3-1 (ended with a trip to the Rose Bowl) 2011 4-0 (wins over 10-3 Arkansas St., S Dak State, 6-7 Arizona State (ranked #22 when we faced them—maybe this year’s Kansas W winds up looking similar when the dust settles), and 6-7 Northwestern 2013 3-1 (SIU, 9-4 Cincinnati, and 0-12 Miami Ohio) 2014 3-1 (Youngstown State, 8-5 Kentucky, 7-5 Tx State) 2015 3-1 (3-9 Kent State, Western Illinois, 7-6 Middle Tennessee State) 2022 3-1 (finished 8-5, should’ve been 9-4…still not over the loss to Michigan So, it’s been mostly true negatives, two seasons I’d consider positive results, one false positive in 2011, and a few seasons of taking care of business against early season patsies.
  24. We have? How many 4-0 starts can you remember the Illini having? Unless you were born in the 1940’s, the answer, including 2024, is two. Go ahead enjoy it without the imposing sense of dread! They’ll probably lose to #10 Penn State in Happy Valley next week, and that’s ok. That doesn’t mean the wheels are coming off. Illinois started a stretch of 5 ranked opponents in 7 games two weeks ago. They’ve banked wins against 2 of those 5 already. Their coordinators ran circles around Nebraska last night. Their QB has 10 TDs to 0 INTs. They have two very reliable WRs and a strong defense that’s held two pretty darn good QBs in check already. There’s two truly scary games left on the schedule. 7 or 8 wins feels like a pretty decent bet.
  25. Man. Illini beat a ranked Nebraska team in OT on the road in prime time and this is the takeaway?
