    He adds value on the bases. He isn't good in the leadoff spot because he isn't a good hitter. You keep him on the bench to pinch run until your roster becomes too talented to keep him on it just to run.

    Why wouldn't he have already signed with us instead of telling teams to have offers in by the 7th? I don't believe we have a deal in place, personally. But we're interested and we have a boatload of money, so I like our chances.

    I'd trade him for two PTBNL if one of them was a top 10 prospect in his organization, and the other was Starlin Castro.

    This is the first cubs game ive watched on TV since about 2009. Len and Bob seem a lot better than they were back then.

    Yeah i think id rather just see if marmol can figure things out. He's had stretches of much more thorough awfulness than this before and has rebounded fine. If he can, he should have enough value to either get a good prospect or get his salary off our books in a trade. If he continues to suck, maybe we lose 105 games instead of 99.

    Cubs.com says we did this to make room for Bowden. Wouldn't Bowden be taking Byrd's spot on the roster? Was there a move somewhere in there that i missed?

    While fans of those teams are wondering if they might win the World Series this season, the most interesting thing about the Cubs will be hoping that some guys in extended spring training show enough to get to Boise. Oh Shut the hell up. Part of the reason we're in this position is from handing out stupid contracts. You can't fix the problems by making the same damn mistakes. I wouldn't have minded the CJ Wilson discount deal, and would have loved the Cespedes deal. Darvish was a bit much, but I'd have given it to him. You're god damn nuts if you think Fielder and Pujols were good contracts. So you're complaining about a player not giving us a hometown discount, a player signing with another team at the last minute, and losing a blind bidding process. Shut up.

I mean, I'm not trying to say its stupid......actually, yeah, it is pretty [expletive] stupid. There comes a point in time when you have to ask yourself, if every single one of them gets a ridiculous contract, what defines ridiculous? No there does not. 10 years to a 32 year old and 9 years to a fatass is ridiculous 10 times out of 10.

    Cespedes really wouldn't have to be particularly good to be worth that contract. If Theo and Jed made a conscious effort to not sign him, and there were reports a day or so ago that they had, money wasn't the reason.
