To be fair, Levine reported this morning that Hendry continues to work the phones with other GMs. I think your comment is a bit speculative. I don't think Hendry's going to rest on his laurels after this deal, but Nevin's presence could be prohibitive to deals that could improve the team now and more importantly in the future(trading for Wilson is the textbook example). This is another reason why Restovich should've gotten a shot. He may have been marginally worse at the role than Nevin, but his presence on the roster isn't going to prevent real improvements from being made. -
Lofton has started hitting a crazy amount of line drives at the end of his career, it's bizarre.

Yay for teh patented Dusty Baker "rally killing" bunt. Lets all root for bad strategic moves. The bunt's the smart move there. Lets waste outs! Don't be dense. It's late in a one run game, with a terrible hitter up and a singles hitter who has 2 hits on the day on deck. Absolutely you bunt there.

Ground ball towards 1st/2nd pitcher goes towards 1st. Once he saw that the play was contained he should have gone to third. That ball was up the middle. He's got to know the shift is on and head to third since there's no way he would be going to first where that ball was hit.

You are so wrong on this point alone, that it is not worth discussing this with you. Whoever you want to place the blame on for Corey's 05 output (Corey himself, Dusty, Sarge, Hendry, minor league coaches), there's no denying that his season in 05 was as bad as you'd see out of Neifi. He wasn't a "bum," but he wasn't much better than average either. (Edited a potential semantics nightmare) "Patterson in Chicago" refers to more than '05 to me.

AB per position per baseball-reference.com 3B 483 1B 305 C 108 DH 65 LF 54 RF 38 OF 27 I'm assuming that you meant games per position? Nevin's caught 2 games since 1999. -

For the record, Nevin has played 1 inning at 3rd base since 2002, and 25 games in the outfield since 1999. -

I must have missed the part where Restovich showed he could hit major league pitching with us. Or the Pirates. Or the Twins. He's hit LHP at a decent clip and is pounding the ball at Iowa. Sure Nevin will likely be marginally better, but all that's doing is promoting a lost cause at this point. The far more important part of my post was that Hendry thinks this team can still compete somehow, and it doesn't give much hope for good moves to be made moving forward. -

This deal is a big "screw you" to Restovich. We didn't really give up anything of value, but it's a pointless move and it unfortunately sends the message that Hendry thinks we should be adding short term pieces to contend.
