  1. I could dig that. Just curious TT, let's say Pie is slotted to play CF for us next year. How would you fill in the rest of the lineup and where would you bat him? Under the assumption that Izturis isn't going anywhere, and that it's unlikely we'll be able to trade/Hendry will want to trade Jones, I'd hit Pie 7th. Have 2B and LF occupy the top 2 spots in the order, and get a platoon partner for Jones. Maybe Durham, Murton, and Restovich; maybe Loretta, Catalanotto, and Murton, there are obviously a bunch of ways you could go about it. It's not going to be a great offense, but given the above assumptions building a great offense would be nigh impossible, and you have the money to go after a top flight starter in free agency or trade. Just curious, what would you think of a Murton/Pie/Jones platoon? Basically, Pie gets most of the time in LF, Jones gets most in RF, Murton is in RF against lefties, LF to spell Pie in some way. Then we get Andruw and Durham, say, and have a pretty solid lineup. Disclaimer: If this is dumb, I apologize, it just came to me and I haven't thought about it much. I don't like the idea all that much. I'd rather Pie stay in CF, and his bat isn't going to be so good that we need to move him off there to get him time(Murton will probably be more productive next year, and Pie wouldn't be damaged by starting the year in AAA). Plus, it's easier to find a player with high production in LF/RF even though you gave the specific example of Andruw.

  3. Go Bucs
  4. United beat Chivas 2-1 on a pair of Gomez goals. Crazy sequence in second half stoppage time with multiple red cards right before the final whistle.
  5. lol, sorry I forgot about your question. In that situation I would rather have Johnson get on-base. But, if you're going to make an out, then make it productive. I rather have one of my batter's make a productive out, rather than not doing anything productive. Obviously you'd rather have a productive out than a non-productive out. But that's not the choice. It's similar to saying that striking out with a runner on first is productive because it wasn't a double play. Just because there are less desirable outcomes doesn't mean the one that happened was good.
  6. I like it, I think Bulger will have a good year with Linehan and a fulltime/more mature Steven Jackson.
  7. I'm pretty sure Manny Ramirez drilled a line drive into a pitcher's crotch when he was with the Indians.
  8. I'm pretty sure you're missing the point completely. No im not missing the point. He said he thought Kendall's Ab was the only good one in the inning. Which is completely false. Not everyting has to be about stats. Stats aren't useless, but stats are so subjective that one must really pay extreme attention to other details of the game that stats don't record. So in that situation, would you rather Johnson drive in the run with a sac fly, or walk/get hit by a pitch/hit a pop up that gets dropped/etc.?
  9. Not including today since ESPN doesn't update their splits that fast and I'm too lazy to calculate them in right now: Wuertz IP H BB ER HR K WHIP ERA K/9 K/BB 0 Days rest 9.1 4 2 0 0 8 0.64 0.00 7.72 4.00 1 Days rest 9.2 6 3 1 0 13 0.93 1.04 12.10 4.33 2 Days rest 6.0 12 3 5 3 4 2.50 7.50 6.00 1.33 6+ Days rest 4.2 6 3 2* 0 5 1.92 4.91 9.63 1.67 *4 Runs Allowed Last year in a larger sample he wasn't very good on 0 days rest, but still stellar with 1 day off. Of course, even combining the two isn't enough to draw much of a conclusion from.
  10. There was an article about how Vince Coleman(at least I'm pretty sure it was Coleman) came to work with Iowa and how he had really turned around his basestealing since.
  11. Thanks for the reminder. Time to do some scouting for next week.
  12. Pie homers in the 5th to make it 7-1. Wells: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4/2
  13. Iowa up 5-1 in the bottom of the 4th Pie is 1 for 2 with a 3B and a BB EPatt is 1 for 2 with a sac fly Scott Moore is 1 for 2 with a double in his AAA debut
  14. Exactly. We must have been watching different games. In any case the thing that clinched that flag was the fact that it was a quarterback getting helmet-to-helmeted. Name the last time that happened to any quarterback (even if he was running the ball) without a flag and I'll buy your Mizzou season tickets for you next year. Reggie Ball on the next possession. And 5 times during the game I was at tonight. EDIT: And it had to have been a helmet-to-helmet call, because Quinn was still in bounds.
  15. I thought it was him to was really confident about U of I covering 30 and betting so?
  16. It wasn't a great day for B12 North coaches making their debut. Prince at KSU beat Illinois State 24-23 after ISU went for the win on a 2 point conversion. EDIT: And SSR is probably uber-pissed that U of I only won by 25.
  17. Fantastic. Having gone so long without seeing Smith in game action, I didn't remember how big a difference it was until Coleman came in the game and skipped a throw then threw a pick. And that helmet-to-helmet call on Quinn was absolute nonsense. Reputation call that gifted ND the winning margin. At a bare minimum there were two times a GT player got hit like that with no call after that flag.
  18. Would you feel different if he continues this tear until the end of the year? Not at all.
  19. You are wrong. They haven't won because the teams they have been on haven't been good or lucky enough. Should we make a list of all the really great teammates that haven't won a ring? It's a very, very poor argument. Thomas leaving was the reason? The White Sox won a bunch of games because they pitched out of their minds and clubbed a bunch of home runs. I'm extremely skeptical Frank Thomas no longer being around inspired Jon Garland to have a career year.
  20. I didn't know "it looks like" or "it appears" or "I think" or "maybe" or "probably"" etc., etc. ad nauseum were the indicators of definitive statements. There were a whole lot of definitive statements about Hill being made. I'm not about to search and find who said them, I'm just saying they were made, and there were many of them.
  21. Solution: Let's stop making definitive statements about pitchers who have less than 50 MLB IP, especially after having a lot of success at lower levels.
