    Shouldn't you be painting your face for the game right now? I understand what you're saying but I think if you have faith in your defense you can relax and pitch and not try to be perfect on every pitch. Gametime is at 6, plenty of time to get into a frenzy before then. :D I agree, and everything points to Maddux being able to trust his defense this year, which makes his comments odd.

    Maddux gave up a 23% LD% this year as a Cub, with an opposing BABIP of .306. So either Maddux was really really lucky or his defense was doing a lot more helping than he thought(the obvious answer is both had a role).

    Considering our performance of late against your Bucs, they need all the motivation they can get! :wink: In all seriousness, unless Chris Simms improves a LOT from last year, there's probably not a team in that division that can really stop Carolina from winning it. Aside from Atlanta, Nawlins, and Tampa.

    This is the same guy the Pirates had on a year ago when the Cubs were playing them. The Cubs scored like 5 runs and they didn't stop the interview once to say what was going on, it was like there wasn't a game on or something.

    We've already seen Miller has nothing left from his time in the minors. He has no velocity, and he got hit hard. The last few years have taught us that when you have a chance to see what your prospects have, you need to take it. The more time they get at the ML level the better.

    So just don't let Marshall pitch? Marshall has plenty left to prove.

    Like who? I think the only 2 rookies that basically NEED to be in the rotation right now are Guzman and Hill, especially the latter. Combine them with Z and you've still got 2 spots open. Marshall was up for pretty much the whole year...does he really desperately need this last month? What's he got left to prove? Marmol's injured right now and Mateo I think would be better off working out of the bullpen (I still think he could make a great closer down the line). Yes, there are always other people to try out, but Miller's here for 1 more month...why not see what he can do? What is there to lose? More fun with Rusch? Because you know Dusty's using him before they bring up any more rookies. Mateo needs innings. The minor league season is about over, so I'd rather he get a start than Miller. Zambrano, Marshall, Marmol, Hill, Guzman for the last month.

    Actually I think the ratio is much different than that. I'd think someone who hates Dusty because he sucks and he's black is more likely to write an angry letter than someone who hates Dusty just because he's terrible at his job. And who writes Dusty a "you just plain suck" letter? That's just bizarre.

    Miller is fried, please don't give him starts that belong to more deserving candidates.
