  1. No they are not. Let me guess, you're going to be using VORP and that other garbage to judge Molina? Stats dont tell you everything. Playing and watching are 2 different things. I hate it when people just use some meaningless stats like VORP to judge a player. Average, Hr, RBI's, OBP, and fielding% are a good way to judge a player in my book. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise. "VORP and that other garbage"? Do you even know anything about what you're railing against? Triple crown numbers and fielding percentage have been proven to be very poor measures time after time after time. There are much better ways to measure performance and you don't even need to do any calculus to get them. (AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS, several of the +- fielding systems(which are actually developed by watching games and using play-by-play data to improve accuracy), maybe even Runs Created if we're adventurous)
  2. When was that made? He was batting .325/.396/.578 with 5 HRs already by the end of April. What's his line now? EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up. It's: .263/.300/.424 and he's still at 5 HR's. I admittedly don't know much about him, but I don't see anything from that line or the above scouting report that makes him anywhere near a top prospect among catchers. Daytona: .313/.383/.574/.957 (~285 PA's) West Tenn: .266/.300/.432/.733 (~200 PA's)
  3. Can we refrain from using triple crown numbers and fielding percentage as an argument of a player's worth? They are terrible measures of a player's respective offensive and defensive ability.
  4. Gordon is gonna stay at third. Hell he is better defensively than Teahan right now. I would imaigne Mark learns to play a little bit of 2b and becomes pretty valueable. What the heck where the Dbacks thinking? If they would have picked Gordon instead of Upton they would have some kind of team for next year. You think Teahen could hack it at 2B? He's a pretty big guy, and especially with him having shoulder surgery 1B would seem to be a logical spot for him. He won't hit enough to play 1b. Either Butler, Shealy, or Huber are going to play there. His best bet is to try to learn to play some 2b or a corner outfield spot. Since he came back from AAA his OPS is well north of .900. That's plenty at 1B, and much better than Shealy or Huber would do.

  7. Number two reason why Brenly shouldn't become the new Cub manager: He's really bad at being a manager.
  8. Exhibit 358,446,991 in the case of "The Chicago Cubs are the worst organization in professional sports". That doesn't even make any sense. There's plenty of things to bash the Cubs organization for, random speculation from the Sporting News is not one of them.
  9. MLB got rid of the alternating leagues thing with the #1 pick a couple years ago I believe. The Padres and D-Backs drafted #1 overall in back-to-back years in '04 and '05, for example.
  10. Tangentially, what's the news with how Gordon's glove is going to play? If he stays at 3rd would they move Teahen to 1B with Shealy going to LF?
  11. Looks like Roast is going to take the most points over Raw. Barring Chris Cooley scoring 4 TDs I'm going to take IMB. Vance needs two points from Gates to beat ChiCubs. O_O beat Tobias. And Uber needs a good monday night to beat Burnt.
  12. Cincy has given O$U trouble before. If they are any good this year, and especially if the game is at Cincy, I could see a slim possibility of them making it interesting.
  13. Good news is New Mexico has been far from impressive, losing at home to I-AA Portland State and winning by a touchdown @ New Mexico St.(thanks to 4 lost fumbles by NM St.). Plus their QB who killed us last year, McKamey, shredded his knee last night. If they play with the intensity and focus they played with yesterday it should be a rout even though it's on the road.
  14. I definitely agree. He is a good player but if you want to be cost conscious couldn't you get a guy like Ray Durham/Julio Lugo/Mark Loretta for a lot cheaper and use the other money/prospects to work on the rotation. I don't see it being that big of a drop off Durham etc to Young. Whether or not it's a big drop off depends on Durham's production. He's had quite the resurgence this year, but whether or not he can maintain it next year is ify at best. If both Young and Marcus Giles are available, I'd prefer to have Giles to Young. The only thing out of the ordinary about Durham this year is his slugging, and even if that returns to previous norms he's still an excellent option.
  15. That was a best case scenario in the JAX-DAL game. Julius and TO both get TD's, Bledsoe throws a bunch of picks and they don't score any more TD's, and the Cowboys lose.
  16. Mizzou got votes!
  17. I'm pretty sure Chris Simms is throwing the game.
  18. A FAKE PUNT And thanks for the update ndistops.

  20. Colorado drops their rivalry game at Colorado State, 14-10. Things may get worse before they get better for Mr. Hawkins. They host #25 Arizona State next week, then they go to #12 Georgia before coming to Columbia the following week. There's a serious chance Colorado could be 1-7 by the end of October. In other Big 12 scores, kU just finished holding off UL-Monroe 21-19; Baylor, aTm, OK St., and Kansas St. all dominated terrible teams; Texas Tech leads UTEP 7-6 midway thru the 2nd quarter in El Paso.
  21. haha, Bob Davie incredulous that a helmet to helmet was called on that play.
  22. That little kid Under Armour commercial makes me angry. I want to punch that little kid who's standing up on the bus in the face.
  23. I think there's room between "playing until your opponent gives up", and faking a punt when up 24 points(and the other team has only a FG) with just over a quarter left to play.
  24. When he was good, Miller was consistently 93-95 on the fastball (at least). I don't see him getting 5 mph back. He's toast. I'm sure there were tons of Jays and Cards fans saying the same thing about Carpenter for 1.5 years, who went threw a much more serious surgery. BTW, Miller was by far the better pitcher between himself and Carpenter before surgury and during his minor league rehab starts. Your negativity is premature. What about the dozens and dozens of pitchers who have gone through surgery and never been the same? Just because there's a slight, slight hope doesn't mean it's premature to dismiss Miller, especially considering the other arms we have in the system right now.
