  1. I mean, none of these things are true! And they're especially not true based on a singular week in April where they are in fact getting it done.
  2. They're averaging a hair under 4 runs per game in that 7 game stretch, league average so far is 4.5. I just can't see danger in that small sample when they have about as difficult a set of external circumstances as you can(very strong opposing SP, on the road against competitive teams, in pitcher's parks), and they went 4-3 while being one swing or two from being league average offensively during the span.
  3. What do you think the average 7 game stretch looks like? Ignore the sample size of 2024, it is rare to have to face that caliber of SP so continuously, never mind entirely on the road and in pitcher-friendly stadiums. And we can extend back to the Dodgers series, in the last 10 games they've faced 6 of the Top 45 SP by ZiPS, plus Miller and Kelly.
  4. Henry doesn't throw hard and has gotten hit pretty hard by LHH in his time in MLB, so probably given Busch's heater? It's basically at Madrigal's expense if no one else is getting an off day, Canario to RF, Cooper to DH, Morel stays at 3B.
  5. I might have missed one in my looking through baseball reference, but that appears to be the first Cubs extra inning win since 1992
  6. And about a 40% chance he K's. Also Madrigal wasn't a pinch hitter, unless you want to burn the DH(who was in the hole) and move Busch/Nico to 3B, Madrigal has to hit.
  7. Harris following Nico down the line yelling at him to run faster was the real highlight
  8. 7-8-9 due up, hasn't pitched in a week, easy 1-2-3 on 12 pitches in the first inning? yeah maybe
  9. Possibly, but he's been a little unlucky today, because he's gotten victimized by like 5 different perfect pitches painting the edge of zone.
  10. Busch's internal monologue on Morel throws must be hilarious
  11. if you get to 2 strikes on Busch maybe just walk him or something
  12. It being an oblique strain is such a huge bummer, because it's not just the recovery time but some time after that where he's likely robbed of power(depending on the severity).
  13. Mastrobuoni should get at bats against RHP over Canario, maybe Madrigal too depending on the specific circumstances.
  14. I'd like to see the K rate a little lower too, but for it to go down without sacrificing BB would put him at a 1:1 K/BB, and I don't think he has to be at that level for me to consider him beating expectations. Plus if he's making better swing decisions we'll expect the Ks to marginally increase along with the BBs as a function of more deep counts. But zoom out a small bit and he's putting up cartoon results while demonstrating progress in the 2 big questions people have(swing decisions and IF defense). Maybe AAA is the level where things get harder but it seems very fair to me to be pretty excited as things stand today.
  15. Castillo has given up 4 ER in every start and his velo is down too, so while I'm not gonna plan on rocking him his reputation probably exceeds the true difficulty of the matchup as it stands today.
  16. I can't quite make sense of Neris's usage so far, it's like he's being protected from...something
  17. I started typing something similar, but on the 2nd replay I think it would've been questionable considering the distance and that he's coming from being face down to the ground.
  18. There wasn't much more said besides there's a car on fire on the freeway next to the stadium and that's why it's gotten hazier in the stadium.
  19. Since he seemed pretty sharp against AAA hitters and the big league team is in town I wonder if they just have him throw a sim game in Mesa to build some endurance and then he takes his next turn in the rotation the following week. Then again, if they think he can throw 4 IP his first outing that's not really a step down from the current options, especially since it could free up a current starter to give depth in the MLB pen if preferred.
  20. Pretty sure the site is wrong, this also explains my dumb way of checking the 40 man(counting names on the roster page) has been confusingly inaccurate for several months.
