No, this is not a thing. The last 2 weeks do not become predictive just because they have gone differently than expected. No, this is not at all probable. These are players playing at the highest level and not an appliance we are turning off and turning on again, the reasons for their slump and the way they snap out one will not be identical. For one objective thing, when Tucker was scuffling he was not hitting the ball hard, Seiya has hit the bejeezus out of the ball with little to show for it this month. And on cue, Seiya hits a single.

This whole thing where we ignore everything but the last couple weeks to decide who is the best player to start is the equivalent of driving 20 miles out of the way because you heard a rumor that gas was cheaper there. Many times it's actually not, and sometimes if it actually is you've made yourself worse off in the pursuit anyway.

There aren't more games for NBC to offer, they're only getting Sunday night games, which Boog is already doing(albeit on radio). Even if there were a few more, the more likely outcome would be an arrangement like Joe Davis has with Fox, where he does those national games and the playoffs but is still the Dodgers primary announcer. The national money(especially in the current TV rights climate) is not going to be good enough that it's more lucrative for Boog to do 1-2 national games a week than it is to do a full season with one team(especially a higher prestige team like the Cubs).

He has done so well for so long to suppress his natural instincts, and this fanbase is going to drive Ian Happ back into hunting the most dangerous game.

Taillon for his career has an ERA over 5 the 3rd time through the order, this year it's 4.63. 62 pitches is not a lot, maybe if he had gone another inning he wouldn't have given up a run, I can see that. I wouldn't have been upset with it at all. Maybe they spotted his mechanics suffering after going out 5 innings in the 100 degree heat index. These are not black and white decisions, yet every time a middle reliever gives up a run or the wrong pinch hitter is chosen we have a group of the least curious sports fans around to confidently claim the 'complete stupidity' of the manager's choices. It's an exhausting approach to being a fan, a better way is possible.

It's a hot day, Taillon is only in his 2nd start off the IL, plus the pen was rested yesterday and will have a day off tomorrow

The Carolina league is definitely not a crazy hitters league this year, league-wide OPS is .663 and only one team has an OPS above .700(it's not Myrtle Beach). A second round college hitter you'd expect to make quick work of Low-A regardless though, so while it's a fun start for Kepley we'll see how he does the next rung up. -
They have a pretty tough road until the weekend after labor day, if you can get it to 4 or even 3 games back by the 5th, then things could get real interesting. Especially with the Cubs clinching the H2H tiebreaker.

Collins is probably not actually playing at a +13 defensive pace in LF, for one -
Crochet didn't sign his big deal until after being traded and is only making 3.8 million this year. I don't see much reason to think the White Sox were going to prefer a package where Paredes(an arb eligible guy) is carrying so much of the value, though.

This part appears to be less than 100% certain. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it were, but I could also see ESPN using that as a bit of a loss leader considering how many streaming hours it would bring in. -
Obviously there's always room for improvement on the margins, but I think the combination of Palencia's history of control problems along with his uptick to 80 grade velo on the fastball makes that reliance on the 4 seamer mostly a good idea. The pitch you control the best that also has a healthy whiff rate and doesn't give up much damage when it isn't whiffed is a pitch you should throw a lot.

Yep. Interestingly, a lot of sinker heavy guys have heavy platoon splits so it's hard to tell if Shaw is simply the RHH they want to replace for a lefty or if they think he's a poor match for that profile. Priester has had basically no platoon split this year, so that's a data point in one direction.

It's currently 10+ weeks after a hairline fracture so Tucker has likely been injury free for a couple weeks. He destroyed the ball when he was most injured immediately after the injury. And from reading between the lines of Counsell's post game I don't think Tucker was very on board with an IL stint simply because he's struggling if he's not actively hurt.

If I compare the odds of getting hurt(or otherwise harming their physical condition) with the odds that sprinting to first makes a difference on a routine ground ball, I have a hard time getting worked up about it. In almost all cases guys will make some effort until the ball is fielded and then throttle down, which is fine since at that point the odds that running faster makes a difference are functionally zero(you're either out or the ball gets away and you're safe regardless). Not making any effort out of the box isn't great, but unless it's habitual or symptomatic of a different problem then I don't think it's worth all the angst.

Since the first game where he led off, Busch has a 93 wRC+ in the leadoff and a -17 wRC+ in all other spots in the order. Lineup spots are not causal factors for productivity.
