  1. Inconsistent? I think he's one of the more consistent pitchers in all of baseball. I could be wrong, but I think you guys are talking different types of consistency. Buehrle is pretty consistently around the same numbers each year, but(and this is what I think UMFan meant), he's more prone to variations during the year. Simply put, Buehre may end up with similar numbers to say, Tim Hudson, but he's more likely to have a disaster start and get rocked on a given start.
  2. But isn't Jocketty responsible for how the farm system works? The Cardinals farm system has been atrocious for years, and he hasn't done much to fix the situation. I agree with the rest of your sentiment though. To an extent, but to his credit he's made changes(Luhnow is relatively new I believe), and that comment also served to illustrate that he probably wouldn't be forced to dumpster dive in a system with better talent and player development(like the Cubs).
  3. What a stupid post. How in the hell do you interpret this as everybody thinking the Brewers will obviously regress yet the Cubs will magically bring it together? Seriously. Very stupid post. Even if anyone was saying that, it's not exactly crazy given their run differential/pythag records(even though I know you hate them).
  4. Part of the reason Jocketty has to gamble on retreads so much is because the Cardinal farm system has been awful for a very long time. To me, the big difference if we're talking Hendry/Jocketty is the people they surrounded themselves with. Jocketty put coaches in place to work best with the people he's aquired, Hendry put coaches in place that destroyed the fruits of the farm system they built. They've had their good trades(McGwire, Edmonds, Rolen, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett) and bad(Pierre, Mulder), but I'd be most interested in who Jocketty brought with him. Has he kept most of the same coaches and front office people throughout his stops as GM?
  5. Does Penn St play Wisconsin? If so where? I like Penn St this year. I see the Big Ten coming down to Michigan, PSU and Wisconsin. I think Wisconsin will win in the end. they play Wisconsin October 13th at home I like Penn State a lot this year. I think they could be one of, if not the, big national sleeper. They won't beat Notre Dame In Happy Valley? I bet they do.
  6. Woo Hernandez YTD @ Peoria: 39 IP, 1.25 WHIP, 6.69 K/9, 2.53 BB/9, 2.64 K/BB, 0.69 HR/9 And he's 18.
  7. That one time he didn't spike a throw directly into the ground. Sure, it went 10 feet over the catcher's head, but I was still stunned that the ball actually went upward.
  8. I'm the opposite. I think the extra salary relief is more valuable than the difference between the non-prospects we'd get.
  9. http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/highschool/news/264350.html http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/highschool/features/264296.html Holy crap, I live in Wentzville, MO.
  10. He wasn't in the tourney. That was a cards fan. No, he was Raisin's 1st round matchup.
  11. Why? Pigs is a lefty. We need a righty. I always, always, always think Petrick is a lefty when he throws RH. *Begins having conversation with self*
  12. Haha...he's 23 man...but the poster on ITI said it's "per two sources in the farm system" so take it for what it's worth. I will go with it for now, because this is a fairly reliable poster over there. You keep your facts away from my joke, you hear? If true, it shows what the Cubs think of Pignatiello.
  13. Petrick? Could Pawelek not get to the phone or something? Maybe an outbreak of alcoholism in the clubhouse and they don't want anyone of legal age?
  14. Standard websites don't have that info. I'd suspect that it's better, though. MLB.com has double splits if you wanted to do how he's done against LHP in June.
  15. NO HE HASN'T!!! If this is true, we have to see Izturis EVERYDAY at Short! Neither Fontenot nor DeRosa can play SS in the Major Leagues, well neither can Izturis apparently. This is would be a god awful resolution to the problem that we have. Why does Hendry have to torment us??? This will be the last straw, I will no longer defend Hendry in anyway, shape, or form if this is what he does. Dare I compare the passion for Theriot with some of the Cubs fanbase to the popularity of Eckstein to some Cardinal fans? There's quite a difference between the host of people who think Eckstein is a good player and the people who think Theriot is better than Cesar Izturis.
  16. It is when you consider that nobody else on the roster can play SS for more than an emergency fill-in role... which means it's going to be all Izturis all the time. Bingo. Izturis has been outplaying Theriot. As the starting SS, Theriot has been abysmal. There's a negligible difference defensively, and Theriot is a better bet to produce offensively going forward, despite what he's done in an small sample at SS.

  18. Dream big. Retirement, then we don't worry about his guaranteed contract in '08 and can let Soto/Bowen catch in peace.
  19. There were two outs, I'd hope he wouldn't be waiting to see if it was catchable.
  20. MUD SLINGER!!! Only clarifying what you started. I would've thought the truth(me being a Mizzou guy and a Cavs fan) was enough ammunition, but apparently not. what's with the MSU b-ball love? I lived in Ohio for 13 years, and MSU was the school I followed before I moved/actually went to a college.

  22. If a vote for me is a vote for Michigan State, then a vote for Bob is most definitely a vote for the Colts. Also, Bob is a Falcons fan, he's shamelessly pandering to the Bear crowd.
  23. if he cant pitch tomorrow they might have to put him on the DL. Just to bring up a live arm. Definitely not. They can't afford to be without Dempster 15 days just to create a roster spot now. If a reliever were to go on the DL just to create a spot it would be Eyre. It wouldn't have to be 15 days. It could be back-dated until the last game he pitched. That was still just Friday. You'd be without him for at least 10+ days if you DL'ed him now.
  24. He's still at 20, none this year. And here we go: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/higs1.shtml
