  1. Soto's catching! He's due up 6th.
  2. I can't agree. We faced two LH starters where Floyd wouldn't have played anyway. The game he would've played, we won and scored 7 runs, and Ward went 1 for 3 with a walk and RBI in RF. Plus, Floyd wasn't exactly hot coming in, he was 3 for his last 17 with a walk and no XBH's.
  3. Anyone catch the guy with the Banks away jersey in that crowd shot?
  4. When does it start? It's on now on ESPN2. sweet thanks Is Soto starting? Nope, he's on the bench to start.
  5. I didn't realize how big Evan Longoria was.
  6. So you want Hill and Marquis removed from the rotation? Are you serious? Thats not what I said. Dont put words in my mouth. Id like to have another option. Thats all I said, dont take it beyond that. When you say "another option over Hill and Marquis", you have to assume people think you want Gallagher there instead.
  7. Is there a site that allows you to view the standings from a certain day? Retrosheet or Baseball Reference Baseball reference does? How do you get there? Go to a team's schedule, then click on the date.

  9. That's what I was hoping for, I figured we could win both series and go 5-2, and hopefully the Brewers would split then lose a series and go 3-4. Looks like the Pirates took an extra game from each of us.
  10. I'm sure Chocolate Milk has already had some fun with this by the time of this reply, but Catcher's ERA is worthless. Zero value at determining catcher worth.
  11. Lee has been a very tall Ryan Theriot offensively for nearly 2 months.
  12. Relax. Barrett was a good hitting catcher and the pitchers had an ERA of over 5 with him as a catcher, while Blanco/Hill saw an ERA of around 2.00. Besides, they have been winning since they traded Barrett. They have been winning in spite of the catchers terrible offense. Thats because defense/pitching is more important for a catcher. You also havent had the bullpen meltdowns, boneheaded throws, and passed balls you had with Barrett. When you think about it, catchers call pitches, can deny runners from moving into scoring position by throwing out runners and plus they guard the most important base on the field. It takes a lot of offense from a catcher to outweigh all of that. You're greatly exaggerating the importance of catcher defense, and also greatly exaggerating Barrett's shortcomings.
  13. Well, it only took 12 pitches, and 3 of them were gimmes to Chacon, so it wasn't too bad. Now we can just let Wuertz and Howry finish the game.
  14. Hopefully he just lets him get Wilson, let a LH PH come up, then bring in Ohman since 3 of the next 4 hitters would be LH. That sounds mighty nice, but that's logical. He's going to let Z get up to 140 before he takes him out. That also assumes that the Pirates don't do something crazy like let Chacon hit.

  16. Fontenot couldn't reach that with a telephone pole
  17. This is what, the third time this series he's blown a defensive play?
  18. That's not too bad, they take him out in the 7th or 8th inning anyway so he doesn't humiliate himself in the field.
  19. Someone equal to, less than, or greater than Soto? As far as ideal trade thought processes... This is just a hypothetical. Cubs send Jones and prospect(s) (within reason) to get Winn and some cash to off-set his contract. Supposedly, Winn is avail. and plays a better CF than Jones, obviously more productive than Jones this year, can hit between Soriano and Lee, but has a bad contract that could be eased up by hopefully Jones, prospect, and some cash. But Winn hasn't even been all that good this year(.281/.333/.403) and we'd be paying him 8 million next year and 8.25 million in '09(plus he has a 10 team no-trade clause those years). I don't see how that really improves the situation. If you're taking on someone playing as marginally as Winn, you might as well let Pie or Jones try to work out of it.
  20. Len and Bob talked about this during a home series against the Brewers. How do you not catch yourself, or at least keep yourself from landing on your collarbone? You can break your collarbone while still bracing yourself. (See Peterson, Adrian) Well, yeah, it's easier to break anything in a football game when you're going full speed and huge men are barreling at you. But when you're out for a morning jog in Wrigleyville?

  22. Damien Miller is now 11 for his last 20 with a double, 3 HR, and 2 walks. Unreal.
  23. Facing Marmol after seeing Lilly 3 times just isn't fair.
