  1. And cause Ronny Cedeno's last 2 weeks have been a fluke. If only he were left handed.
  2. Fontenot is playing because in the last week he's hitting .636/.765/1.000/1.765.
  3. Dempster pitched well that inning, all 3 runs are unearned. Yahoo has one of the runs being earned.
  4. Meh. Lohse did the same thing last April then got torched the rest of the year. Looper had a similar start last year as well and wilted under the workload. Wellemeyer's given up 6 HR already, and should fall off if everyone realizes that he can't throw anything besides his straight-as-an-arrow fastball for a strike(I swear I yelled this at the TV a dozen times last night). Also, on the whole I think their opponents have helped their numbers as well, we were the first team they'd played over 32 games that was in the upper half of the NL in OPS.
  5. Lineup from The Cub Reporter: Soriano Theriot Lee Kosuke Soto DeRosa Fontenot Pie Dempster Some good things there. Good to see Pie in the lineup and Soto finally moved up in the order. Still no Cedeno to be found.
  6. BA had Kyle Gibson near the top of their Best Sophomores list prior to this season. In his first year as a starter he's put up a 3.84 ERA, 74/18 K/BB, 1.27 WHIP in 70.1 IP. Nick Tepesch was at the top of the Best Freshman list, he's been in the bullpen like Gibson was last year, although without the same success thus far. 5.24 ERA, 13/8 K/BB, 1.43 WHIP in 22.1 IP
  7. Thats the problem all the damn walks. He couldnt retire the 2 journeymen before Pujols, and that was game. Seriously, he let Izturis and Kennedy beat him. They got on base 5 of 6 times against him, the one out coming in the last batter of his outing.
  8. Theriot has more CS than everyone else on the Cubs. Combined. For funsies, if you remove the CS from his OBP, it's at .333 for the season.
  9. The DBacks fans are doing the wave, the game is tied in the 8th inning. Embarrassing.
  10. Cedeno may need to photoshop some pictures of the Cajun twins in order to get some playing time at this rate.
  11. If you do trade Pie for Greene, just call up Fuld to be the platoon partner with Johnson. Fontenot will have to go down, but with Cedeno, Theriot, and DeRosa all on the roster vying for 2B time he's redundant. Or just use Cedeno in CF full time if he wasn't included for Greene.
  12. Ty Wright with a homer for Daytona today. Is he good enough defensively to play CF?
  13. If Dempster falls off we have exactly 1 good starting pitcher left Which is just about on par with the rest of the league. It's rare to see any team with a bonafide 1-2 punch these days. Diamondbacks say hi, and raise you a -3. Yep. They are one of the "rare" teams. who's the diamondbacks' really good #3? Owings isn't "really good", but he's got solid peripherals. Scherzer could be that guy as well.
  14. Apparently the number of consecutive plate appearances without being retired needed to get Cedeno in the lineup is greater than 5. Unreal. And Gallagher to the pen? Just call up Cotts or Pignatiello and move Marshall to long relief.
  15. Because he's walked 18 guys in 19 innings. Carlos Zambrano walked 19 guys in 5 starts to begin the year last year and gave up 21 earned runs in the process, but they never talked about skipping his rotation spot or putting him in the pen. It was 6 starts and 36 innings. To compare, Hill 2008: 8.24 BB/9; Zambrano April 2007: 4.66 BB/9.
  16. I didn't see any of the game, but to see that LeBron sent the Wizards home with 27/13/13 is just swell.
  17. Because he's walked 18 guys in 19 innings.
  18. Hill can't continue to pitch like this, and if going to Iowa for a couple turns is what's necessary for him to get right, then that needs to happen. However, ignoring the organization's treatment of him as a possible cause for this Ankieldom would be foolish. They tried changing what works, a dumb dumb dumb thing considering Hill used to be Rick Vaughn before they straightened him out, sees a sport psychologist(aka if you don't need to fix him, then don't poke the bear), and there's no benefit to be gained from the tinkering(Hill already had a deceptive delivery, great peripherals, and has zero injury history).
  19. Well, if he sucks then the experiment will be over quickly and it will get Ascanio to Chicago quicker.
  20. Also, Prince Fielder is the person to blame/thank/feed(vegetables only ps get it it's funny) for this injury. Why he decided to tag Johnson instead of giving the ball to Gallardo is beyond me.
  21. When I saw Gallardo walking back to the mound on his own power, I flashed back to Corey Patterson. I think his knee tweaked the exact same direction too.
  22. He's the starter, man. You can't bench the starter. if we're doing this, then put ronny cedeno in LF, theriot at SS and soriano on the bench. and continue giving reed johnson the lion's share of the playing time in CF. Actually, it works any way you want to spin it, because Cedeno has superior minor league history, better tools, is more highly regarded as a prospect, etc.
  23. Well he did just hit a PH 2 run game winning HR the other day. Yeah, but can he play a position? i'm guessing he played first base during his non-pitching days at georgia tech and tulane Looks like his last year at Tulane he played 36 games at 1B, 19 at DH, and 5 in LF.
