    How does the first baseman have anything to do with a balk? You can't throw to an unoccupied base. I'm pretty sure that's what got that balk called on Lilly a while back. Lee was in for the bunt and didn't get to the base.

    They were relatively even with contrasting styles. Spain is one of the favorites to win the tournament, and play an open, attacking style. Italy is a perennial power(2006 World Cup "winner"), and play very defensive soccer.

    Gray said it right. Those are easy foul calls if they weren't in/near the box, so he's afraid to do it. The Italians know it, so they just pack the box and swing away at the ankles of the Spanish.

    I didn't see yesterday's outing, but his problem against Tampa was his slider. He hit his spot(or very close to it) with the majority of his fastballs(personally, I think he was getting squeezed a bit), but the sliders were all over the place.

    Veal since April: 10 starts, 57 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 5 HR, 48/28 K/BB Like Samardzija, one problem, although for Veal it's too many walks.
