  1. Soto's a streaky hitter, he swings hard and K's a good bit, so he's prone to slumps. A quick look at his game log shows several similar stretches last year. Which brings up that he's only had 26 ABs, and even then his walk rate is up and K rate is down, but his LD% has been EQUAL to his BABIP so far. Soto will come out of it, and I'll only be concerned if he goes a couple months without any stretches of torching the ball for days at a time.
  2. Hoff misplayed a single for a two base error and two runs scored. I don't think anything else happened besides that. He had a shot at a ball that one hopped the wall, but he didn't get there(not really his fault) and played it into a triple(his fault).
  3. Posnanski is quite possibly the best sportswriter in America.
  4. FYP no, in 'n out burger is awesome. it's one of the few fast food burgers you can eat without a feeling of self-loathing followed by a half hour of diarrhea. Pooping within 3 days of eating fast food is not diarrhea.
  5. Another Cubs Blog is saying that the Score says the rumor is Vizcaino being released outright. It just doesn't make any sense. Even if you were going to do something as silly as this, then wait a week until we need a fresh arm from our stretch without off days.
  6. For me, it's more effort based than mental mistakes. A guy who gives up an 0-2 HR is still trying to get the guy out, and someone who takes a called third strike thinks it's best that he take a pitch that's a ball. But a guy who isn't running out a bobbled ball, or an outfielder who gives up an extra base by slowly getting to a ball aren't trying to do the right thing, they're just being lazy. But I admit I have a much more narrow view of what's acceptable for booing than most.
  7. Booing players on your own team is really stupid, unless it's something like a guy getting thrown out at first because he didn't run it out and the guy bobbled it for 5 seconds. Or a Todd Hundley flipping off the fans situation.
  8. They have Fukudome about +13 in RF last year, and -13 in CF over about 15 games. That's *really* awful for 15 games. How would a +13 in RF translate to CF, on average? Not too good, I would assume, but you know how far that gets you. The -13 is prorated for a full season, sorry if that wasn't clear. It has him -2.5 over about 15 games, which is much worse than I originally said(not reading correctly today), but heavily based on last year(-2.2 to -0.3 in about the same time). As for translation, I imagine +13 in RF translates to at least several runs above average in CF, but I don't know the exactitudes.
  9. Since this is the spot with the most draft talk, I'll leave this link here. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Four-ways-the-NFL-Draft-can-make-sense-to-a-coll?urn=ncaaf,158274 I'm especially fond of his last point.
  10. Do they? How many times has he been used as such? I haven't really noticed it happening but perhaps I've missed it. I guess it hasn't happened as much since then, but he was used as such in 3 of the first 4 games.
  11. This is another good joke. It'd work better if the Cardinals weren't tied with us. It was more a reference to the fact that this is happening for the 3rd year running, but I can see how the wording is ambiguous.
  12. They have Fukudome about +13 in RF last year, and -13 in CF over about 15 games.
  13. Johnson grades out below average defensively, relatively easily in fact. I have no idea why you wouldn't consider Fukudome at least adequate, if not stellar/outstanding/additional adjective.
  14. 5 K's, 3 ground outs and a flyout for Carpenter. Not a bad result for the first time through the order.
  15. Can anyone find that info broken down for April of previous years for Lilly?
  16. Pepe does not appreciate your dives in the box
  17. If Bradley is healthy, then you can get by with Fox and Hoffpauir in the same lineup. Gathright is never going to start since he's the 3rd or 4th outfielder at every spot, so strictly as a bench player having Fox around might be better. And if Bradley gets hurt again you can swap Fox for Sam Fuld or something(since you'd have to release Gathright) to get that outfield D back. Doubt it happens though, Bradley's too frail and they really like Gathright as a defensive replacement/pinch runner.
  18. Ramirez is doing just a fantastic job of hitting tonight.
  19. If the lefty is a guy with not much of a split like Cotts, there isn't much of a difference.
  20. Dickerson dropped a fly to the warning track, everyone moved up a base.
  21. Votto was not pleased that Encarnacion left the base.
  22. How is that not scored an error and that was a strike.
  23. Come on, Harden isn't getting the outside corner that Soto and Theriot just got.
