  1. Slugging is supposed to be much higher than OBP. Rasmus will be fine in all likelihood, although Meph's roundabout point about him not showing much power is a valid one. 3 doubles in 70 PA's is less than even his tempered rookie year expectations.
  2. Wrigley Rat pointed out yesterday that Matulia went on the DL for Iowa, so the roster spot is still there.
  3. The Cubs have a DER of .700 thru Wednesday, 9th in MLB. Last year it was .705, 2nd in MLB. The Cubs have a UZR of -0.7, which is -2.0 per 150 games, 18th in MLB. Last year it was +11.0 for a +2.3 UZR/150, 10th in MLB.
  4. The Cubs are just not any fun to watch right now. The downside of their offseason moves was losing depth, and it seems like they want to jam that point down everyone's throat with the injuries(Ramirez, Bradley) and unexpected hideousness(Soto; Bradley; Lee and Dempster despite lowered expectations; Gregg and Marmol). The good news is that despite an extended stretch of ugly and uninspired baseball they're only a game below .500. Marshall continues to impress as well. For all the lamenting that has been done about Wood and justifiably about DeRosa, Marshall is making the Peavy non-deal look good by outpitching him thus far by quite a bit.
  5. It hit him in the pocket of the glove and he didn't catch it, that's incredible.
  6. Yeah. I'm not a fan of WARP, but I can't think of much else to use. Santo comes out a couple wins ahead.
  7. Most definitely, hence the wording to see if SD would give up on him.
  8. Kouzmanoff wouldn't be any worse than our other options offensively (maybe better), but I wouldn't want to give much up for him. A career 101 OPS+ with 263 career Ks to 63 BBs. He'd be able to fill in at 3rd and maybe even 2B. He's got a bit of a platoon split(but not drastic, which is a good thing), and he's a career .813 OPS away from Petco. We could do a lot worse with a bench spot.
  9. I agree. Is that just a statement generally or are you making an argument of some sort regarding Santo and Allen? Yeah, Allen was a below average defensive 1B/OF, while Santo was an elite defensive 3B.
  10. http://www.anothercubsblog.net/index.php/site/comments/crisis/
  11. I wonder if the Padres would give up on Kouzmanoff.
  12. Defense matters.
  13. It wasn't a good throw, but Geo had little chance of getting Byrnes. And that is a strike on 2-1.
  14. So we have a walk, a single on a groundball that hit the umpire, a ground rule double on a pitch at someone's eyes, a bunt single that should've been caught, and a slow roller to short. What a crappy way to give up 3 runs.
  15. I would think so since Fukudome has already been given the day off. Is something wrong with Fukudome? Why did Gathwright PH for him yesterday? Because the game was in hand and he has played every game for the past 3 weeks.
  16. Great to see Hill having a good night. Picking him up last year was just a shrewd move, first round picks with his age and MiLB performance deserve more than 132 MLB PA's before coming scrap heap fodder like was.
  17. Elyria, OH, woo! hahaha "Z is going to try to hit one 1000 feet"
  18. Draft Express doesn't have either getting picked right now, and they have 11 Internationals going in the 2nd round. The less reliable NBADraft.net has Lyons going at 44 and Carroll at 53, and they have 4 Internationals going in the 2nd round.
  19. It seems to be the consensus that Haren is starting tonight.
  20. I wish Wolfert had picked a better situation than the Bears for a tryout. I guess he probably didn't have a wealth of options, but his only hope of making the roster is hoping Gould tears something. On the other hand, he essentially is Robbie Gould(extremely accurate without a huge leg for 45+ yarders), so maybe the Bears will like him.
  21. Even if I need to substitute VMart for Soto?
