There's also stuff in that link about working with Ascanio and Samardzija, and how Ascanio has passed Atkins as the next starter on the depth chart for the big league club.
solid 9th inning for franklin, 2 home runs allowed (one to a pitcher) and 2 line outs. about time he came back down to earth. And one of the homers to Jerry Hariston Jr., ouch. Hairston has absolutely killed them this series. I think that's like his 4th XBH and 2nd HR.
Can we stop with the Stevens love? They guy has walked 7 guys in 13 innings, why do you think Lou wants another guy with command issues in the pen? I know I can deal with a few more walks than ideal if he can do even half as well as his current .089 BAA. His walk rate has been fine in his 300+ innings prior to this year, I don't think his first 14 IP this year are enough to make me think he's a wildman now. Why was I thinking he had control problems in the past? Is it 1 of the other guys we got from Cleve in that trade? The other two guys, Gaub and Archer, are both much worse with control.
That's why they are referred to for check swings... They alos have a better angle one a borderline pitch when a catcher pulls a ball into the strike zone. . No, no they don't.
do you really think that's reflective of his true ability level, though? sure, he hasn't started hot, but he's absolutely a better option than anyone we actually have in the organization. EDIT: also it's still way early and so on. if he goes 4-4 with 4 singles today, his obp is .328 and his ops is 790. I don't think it's so far from his ability level going forward that we should be angry that he's not around to play corner infield everyday. Trading DeRosa wasn't a problem, replacing his spot on the roster with Miles and Gathright was. Also, DeRosa is 0 for 4 today.

A sudden increase in wildness is often a sign of an impending injury in a pitcher. We're still talking about 14 IP, and 7 BB in 14 IP isn't so horrible that an injury is all that more likely than it being a fluke/variance.
I would like to see Ascanio given the same treatment that Samardzija should get, remaining in the rotation so he can work on refining his stuff, and to see for sure if he is a starter or reliever at the major league level. Especially when someone like Stevens is available to fill that need in the pen.
DeRosa's .309 OBP and .754 OPS are not any type of remedy at corner infield. I really think you have to confront Lee about the injury affecting his performance and give him a DL stint to at least get to the point where he can play regularly. Fox is an easy decision for the recall, and a Hoffpauir/Fox platoon(with Hoffpauir getting PH opportunities and coming in defensively against LHP) could be quite effective.

Thats Bs. That was a Baker like move putting Demp back out there to pitch. Hell he wont let Randy freaking Wells pitch after 85 pitches, but he will throw the guy thats making 15 mil or whatever it is back out there after 115 pitches. Its pure ignorance, along with alot of Lous other decision making this year. Its time for Lou to be grilled by the media but it wont happen. Lou is far from perfect, and I think it'd be awesome if we could tie his arms and legs together once the game starts and let Trammell make the decisions, but do you really think he's the appropriate outlet for frustration? Lou's made bad decisions, but I hardly think his decisions make the Top 10 reasons the Cubs are struggling.
Guyer and Barney add another single, so naturally Sandberg has Thomas sacrifice them over. Maybe we should start keeping a log of these things for when his name comes up for the Cubs job someday. Good to see Guyer having a nice day, his K and BB rates are actually quite good, his BABIP couldn't stay around .175 forever.
How? Two games without Bradley and Ramirez is the same now as it was a week ago. I'm saying the fact that he has to miss 2 games is more magnified now that we're already missing one of our big bats in the lineup. Ramirez was out with an injury then, too. He played 3 games between injuries.
