Kouzmanoff wouldn't be any worse than our other options offensively (maybe better), but I wouldn't want to give much up for him. A career 101 OPS+ with 263 career Ks to 63 BBs. He'd be able to fill in at 3rd and maybe even 2B. He's got a bit of a platoon split(but not drastic, which is a good thing), and he's a career .813 OPS away from Petco. We could do a lot worse with a bench spot.
I agree. Is that just a statement generally or are you making an argument of some sort regarding Santo and Allen? Yeah, Allen was a below average defensive 1B/OF, while Santo was an elite defensive 3B.
So we have a walk, a single on a groundball that hit the umpire, a ground rule double on a pitch at someone's eyes, a bunt single that should've been caught, and a slow roller to short. What a crappy way to give up 3 runs.
I would think so since Fukudome has already been given the day off. Is something wrong with Fukudome? Why did Gathwright PH for him yesterday? Because the game was in hand and he has played every game for the past 3 weeks.
Great to see Hill having a good night. Picking him up last year was just a shrewd move, first round picks with his age and MiLB performance deserve more than 132 MLB PA's before coming scrap heap fodder like was.
Draft Express doesn't have either getting picked right now, and they have 11 Internationals going in the 2nd round. The less reliable NBADraft.net has Lyons going at 44 and Carroll at 53, and they have 4 Internationals going in the 2nd round.
I wish Wolfert had picked a better situation than the Bears for a tryout. I guess he probably didn't have a wealth of options, but his only hope of making the roster is hoping Gould tears something. On the other hand, he essentially is Robbie Gould(extremely accurate without a huge leg for 45+ yarders), so maybe the Bears will like him.
Going forward, would you rather have Loney, Hudson, and Soto(playing UT) or Teixeira, Hamilton, and hopefully Brandon Phillips(Iwamura or Aviles if not) What if Martinez was subbed in for Soto? Or Ethier for Hamilton?
you're leaving out wellemeyer, who was legitimately good last year and seems to be magically flourishing there, so i wouldn't write him off as "pray for rain." pineiro isn't good and boggs is terrible, but if carpenter comes back after the all star break that's four above-average starters. plus they do have a pretty good minor league system now and can make a trade if they're in contention. Wellemeyer's WHIP is 2, and Carpenter is quickly falling to Priordom levels of health.
I think the sentiment is that Fox is a streaky hitter who's borderline AL bench material, and while he's scorching hot some are hoping to ride that for some MLB productivity.
Cashner can't escape the 3rd without reaching his pitch count, but he leaves with a respectable 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 single, 1 BB, 2 K line. He also hit a batter and one man reached on an error by Castro(who now has 4 already).
