  1. Went to the Kane County/Burlington game tonight, and here is a brief synopsis: Innings 1 thru 8.5: Eric Hosmer hits the ball hard, Kane County makes lots of errors Bottom of the 9th: Kane County loads the bases with 2 outs, down 2 runs. Guy hits a single to right and Burlington's RF throws a laserbeam to the plate to win the game. Both benches briefly clear for some reason after he's called out. Fun times.
  2. Napoleon Harris the Northwestern/Raider linebacker?
  3. In about a year or so, Marquez Smith should make a nice Mark DeRosa type bench infielder.
  4. Zach Greinke with me in attendance: 12.2 IP, 10 R, 6 ER, 4.26 ERA Zach Greinke without me in attendance: 114.2 IP, 28 R, 24 ER, 1.88 ERA why zach, why?
  5. What a pretty, pretty sequence.
  6. I need to take advantage of Gameday Audio more. I only listened to about an inning and a half in the car, but Santo was a constant source of entertainment. Several "how many times can this happen?" outbursts, plus he spent 5 minutes relaying a trivia question from a listener that turned out to be completely wrong.
  7. You made this point better than I would have, I was trying to work in a joke about Sandoval playing like his glove was made of leftover bamboo shards. It wasn't working.
  8. Even with the deke, it's very close whether Jeter gets tagged in the chest or touches the base first. I think he's safe, but when Rolen is waiting to tag you, you probably lose the benefit of the doubt.
  9. Fontenot is left handed, has a better track record(especially against RHP), was 7 for his last 15 entering tonight, and using him keeps your best hitter in the game. He's 100% the right choice for that situation.
  10. Johnston had a 30+% K rate every stop of his professional career. He just wasn't going to be able to sustain any type of success with a 1/4 BB/K rate.
  11. I went to a camp that Stetson Allie's dad Danny put on, Stetson had to be about 10 years old. Even at 10 his swing was remarkable, you could tell he had professional instruction his whole life.
  12. Minor League Splits has a very neat recap of every organization each day. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cubs-recap.html
  13. According to Gameday, Fox hit that roughly a billion feet.
  14. Amazing pitching day, Guzman, Jackson, Carpenter, Archer, Jung.
  15. I really hope there's a Coors hangover effect, because Baker is a career .205/.266/.335/.601 away from there.
  16. This is the bigs, not Japan. Tell me, how is is that most people in and around major league baseball think the guy is a BIG bust? Hmm, maybe it's his numbers? Just a hunch. I'm withholding judgment til Mickey Morandini weighs in. You watch your mouth when talking about Mickey Morandini.
  17. I don't see why it matters. There's always a deal or two that's good, but all around it is a team stuck in nowhere land, perpetually looking 3 years down the road while delivering on nothing. Unloading every decent player they have, bring up the next batch, unload them too. If they ever hope to get out of nowhere land, this is the type of deal they need to make. Morgan is a decent player, but he's already 29, and his value is tied to a position that the Pirates have plenty of higher potential guys(McCutcheon, Tabata, Hernandez). Milledge may continue down his Pattersonian path, but he has the chance to break out and be a big producer they'd need if they're to turn it around. Also, Hanrahan is better than Burnett.
  18. Project Prospect's 5 NWL Players to watch. Link
  19. Ascanio is making a mockery of Oklahoma City: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7/2 K/BB Searle got victimized by a couple HR balls: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 7/2 K/BB, 2 HR
  20. A run prevented is just as good as a run scored. It's entirely possible that the best improvement available could be a reliever, especially since there's not much place the team can upgrade offensively because of contracts. That said, don't trade Randy Wells for Heath Bell, and probably don't trade for a reliever. That best improvement available could be Blake Parker or Jeff Stevens as easily as it could be Heath Bell.
  21. Yeah, I'm blacked out for both cubs and sox games, obviously. I just didnt knwo if that counted only for the home broadcasts or if that meant I couldn't see them at all. Nope, you cannot see them at all.
  22. For my experience, using the HD caliber feeds skip pretty badly on my internet connection. It can also be as much as a couple minutes behind live action. I usually turn off NexDef and put it on 4 bars(maximum SD) and it looks fine on my 19" TV. It also runs pretty much at real time. I haven't used it all that much though, certainly not as much as I've wanted(although with the Cubs this year..) For blackout stuff, there should be a place around the MLB.tv site to test what teams are blacked out for you. My guess is there's no way you're not blacked out of Cubs games. I live 2 hours from St. Louis and 2 hours from KC and both the Cards and Royals are blacked out.
  23. I was critical of the McLouth trade, but the Morgan deal is a really, really good one for the Pirates.
