    I want to say I've also seen him up in Chicago being a clown, carrying the signs around back by Murphys. Reminded me of one of those Fred Phelps church idiots that protest soldiers funerals. Yep, he's the guy Dempster sprayed with a hose in the bleachers a while back.

    the variance happens because the sample's so small. most analysts agree that you'll need nearly 2-3 years of defensive data for UZR to be a good reliable indicator of defensive value. i know it's not entirely analogous, but looking at AVG right now, i have trouble believing Jason Bartlett is a .370 hitter. But does that help? We already know that AVG is a pretty bad measure of the offensive value of a player. For the record, I think Bartlett is hitting closer to .350, but your point remains. Then again, if you're saying you also don't think Bartlett is a .930 OPS player...well, I don't know what to say. To continue using the Bradley example, looking at his OPS this year you could conclude that OPS is garbage using similar logic used to criticize UZR(not that all the criticisms on that front are illogical or not valid). Because fielding has been so subjective for so long we like to think of it as a static ability. Jim Edmonds is a great defender, Adam Dunn is a terrible defender, etc. But guys can have fielding slumps just like hitting ones, especially when it comes to stuff like range and cutting off balls in the outfield, that's more difficult for us watching at home to identify.

    That guy is also wearing a Cardinals #101 jersey that says Bartman on the back. He has numerous signs that he takes to games, including a bunch of really dumb anti-Cub ones. He's a complete joke, and even if he weren't a fan so invested in being anti-Cub he'd be obnoxious because he ruins the game for those sitting around him with those signs.

    Going back to Rasmus, he's a very valuable player. Elite defense at an important position and acquitting himself well offensively at his age is very good. It's worth noting that he gets shielded from LHP at this point though(.900 OPS against RHP, .500 against LHP), and if his at bats were in proportion with someone that plays everyday like Pujols, he'd be about a .785 OPS right now. Still more than fine with his age, position, and defense, but a more tempered look at his first half performance.

    Bruce does have a disproportionately small number of home runs in high leverage situations.

    Went to the Kane County/Burlington game tonight, and here is a brief synopsis: Innings 1 thru 8.5: Eric Hosmer hits the ball hard, Kane County makes lots of errors Bottom of the 9th: Kane County loads the bases with 2 outs, down 2 runs. Guy hits a single to right and Burlington's RF throws a laserbeam to the plate to win the game. Both benches briefly clear for some reason after he's called out. Fun times.

    I need to take advantage of Gameday Audio more. I only listened to about an inning and a half in the car, but Santo was a constant source of entertainment. Several "how many times can this happen?" outbursts, plus he spent 5 minutes relaying a trivia question from a listener that turned out to be completely wrong.

    You made this point better than I would have, I was trying to work in a joke about Sandoval playing like his glove was made of leftover bamboo shards. It wasn't working.

    Even with the deke, it's very close whether Jeter gets tagged in the chest or touches the base first. I think he's safe, but when Rolen is waiting to tag you, you probably lose the benefit of the doubt.

    Fontenot is left handed, has a better track record(especially against RHP), was 7 for his last 15 entering tonight, and using him keeps your best hitter in the game. He's 100% the right choice for that situation.

    Johnston had a 30+% K rate every stop of his professional career. He just wasn't going to be able to sustain any type of success with a 1/4 BB/K rate.

    I went to a camp that Stetson Allie's dad Danny put on, Stetson had to be about 10 years old. Even at 10 his swing was remarkable, you could tell he had professional instruction his whole life.

    This is the bigs, not Japan. Tell me, how is is that most people in and around major league baseball think the guy is a BIG bust? Hmm, maybe it's his numbers? Just a hunch. I'm withholding judgment til Mickey Morandini weighs in. You watch your mouth when talking about Mickey Morandini.

    I don't see why it matters. There's always a deal or two that's good, but all around it is a team stuck in nowhere land, perpetually looking 3 years down the road while delivering on nothing. Unloading every decent player they have, bring up the next batch, unload them too. If they ever hope to get out of nowhere land, this is the type of deal they need to make. Morgan is a decent player, but he's already 29, and his value is tied to a position that the Pirates have plenty of higher potential guys(McCutcheon, Tabata, Hernandez). Milledge may continue down his Pattersonian path, but he has the chance to break out and be a big producer they'd need if they're to turn it around. Also, Hanrahan is better than Burnett.
