  1. UZR, PMR, and BP's FRAA all agree that Hawpe is a horrendous defensive RF. At least 10 runs below average, maybe as many as 20.
  2. He didn't even have to stay away from the whole media. Sullivan's been crusading against him all year long since he admitted he had it out for him before the season even started.
  3. He won't get anything now that he suspended him. He wasn't going to get anything if he didn't suspend him. It's his 6th team in 7 years and there already were probably a fair number of teams that wouldn't touch him because of his rep. Everything that went on this year was well known around baseball and with his lack of production and contract, he has almost no trade value. I don't see it that way. There's a huge difference between a guy talking about being unhappy(making it more likely he gets traded) and his general manager suspending him for 10% of the season.
  4. Why does anyone care whether Bradley blames himself, his teammates, the fans, the media, or dinosaurs for what happens? It doesn't matter, and he's been one of the most vocal guys blaming himself for his own shortcomings. His problem came when he started hitting and people still came after him at every turn. But because he's crazy he communicates frustration at that in the worst way possible and people hate him still. Bradley got off to a horrible start, and straightened himself out to have an okay season. That's all that matters. But because Paul Sullivan and a bunch of fans can't come off the "Bradley is a crazy headcase who molests collies" angle, that is apparently irrelevant.
  5. I'm not sure I buy this as a business decision. Are people really going to stay away from Wrigley if Bradley is on the team next year?
  6. So they could've just DLed him with the legitimate knee injury he has and potentially had more flexibility if he was hurt in the spring? What a colossal failure this whole situation has been. Bradley being himself(not a compliment), idiot media and fans making him a villain, and then Hendry not having enough wherewithal to know that most media and fans are idiots. You didn't even have to keep him, but now you have to give him away because the situation spiraled out of control. Really, really, really, really dumb.
  7. Way to bend yourself over for the offseason, Jim. Milton Bradley isn't the most personable person in the world. He had a very bad start to this season. As a result, the media and fans were able to dictate what happened to him. Considering the majority of baseball/Cubs fans and Chicago media, what a frightening development this is.
  8. Not really, I'm just glad that he's not binding himself to preseason reputations. Not that it's a model ballot, I pointed out 2 inconsistencies alone in my last post, but I'd rather err on that side than the one that doesn't keep [Traditionally good Team A] in the Top 10 at the end of the year because they were there to start the year.
  9. holy crap that guy was either drunk or is a complete idiot. That doesn't look terrible to me, it's just a different approach. If you beat power conference teams(or in FSU's case, Miami), you get rewarded. It's not universally consistent(like most ballots), but it's not so different than some of the blogpoll ballots that use that approach. if florida played houston they'd win by 30. ole miss at 24? usc 25, oklahoma 22? none of these make any sense. That's not what the polls are supposed to show. Houston played the better schedule with the same results, Florida will rise over them because they play much better opponents than Houston going forward. Ole Miss is down there because they haven't played anyone(a little inconsistent with Penn St being so high), USC and OU are down there because they lost(USC is inconsistent because they won @OSU). Looks to me like the guy values wins, and wins against power conference teams.
  10. I have Chris Johnson in both my leagues and he's beating my opponents by himself.

  12. Mizzou stays at 26 in the AP and moves up to 21 in the coaches after thrashing mighty Furman. Hopefully they can avoid slipping up at Nevada on Friday night, because there will be plenty of chances to move up the polls after that(Nebraska, @ Oklahoma St., Texas in consecutive weeks).
  13. I've only seen about 4 games he's head coached and I've already seen him lose his cool more times than the rest of the coaches I've seen combined. When his team doesn't perform well he takes it with the grace of a 5 year old.
  14. Leach is rightfully upset that the officials blew the last play of the first half dead when Potts didn't come close to taking a knee. Still, isn't it common for coaches to let officials in on potential trick plays like that prior to the game? It seems like Leach could've communicated better with the officials at some point to avoid that.
  15. Not a good week for the MWC. Utah loses at Oregon, BYU getting torched at home by Florida State, and TCU is struggling with Texas State at home.
  16. Holy smokes what a catch by that Arkansas wideout.
  17. That 2007 thread was awesome.
  18. Antonio Gates v. Baltimore or Chris Cooley v. St. Louis?
  19. I have a hard time believing Baskett can't climb over Garcon and Collie on the depth chart.
  20. Didn't Missouri hang a banner at their stadium for spending a week at #1? This is either really bad information, a worse joke, or both.
  21. I was referencing his offensive numbers only when I said top 4-5 centerfielder. I know the metrics aren't crazy about him, but I don't know exactly how much his defense has hurt his value - though I wouldn't imagine that much. Kosuke is 13th among qualified CFs in wOBA. Link
  22. Until recently it was a pretty excellent year for him. It was a good year, certainly a nice rebound from his 2008, but I wouldnt call it excellent, especially considering his expectations when first coming over. I'd say a top 4-5 center fielder in all of baseball is pretty excellent. Kosuke has been fine this year, but he's closer to 10th than 5th, maybe even on the other side of 10 depending on how much weight you give to defensive metrics.
  23. Zambrano's only between -5 and 0 runs above average as a hitter when you compare him to position players. Stupid BTBS and USS Mariner's graphs are gone from their good articles about pitcher hitting from a while back. Odds are Z's about even on his contract. Not that he's extremely likely to be worth the contract, but he's been a lot more valuable than many assume, and he's not so much worse than his deal that trading his salary on a high ceiling flyer would be a wise decision at all.
  24. This is what I'm thinking, if you're gonna dream, dream big. They could be 4 GB and 3 in the loss column by the end of the weekend in the DIVISION.
