  1. If you don't have to pickup any of the contract, it would be almost difficult for a deal not to be worth it. I mean, sure, it's worth it then. But is that realistic at all? It may not be feasible, but it answers the question about selling low. Soriano's contract is so bad that there are a ton of trades where the Cubs wouldn't get a very good return but they'd come out ahead by getting rid of some portion of Soriano's salary.
  2. I've mentioned it before, but Jose Guillen is a reasonable proxy for Burrell. I wonder if we could get Moore to give up on some valuable guys coming off down years(Gordon and Cruz leap to mind) if we took on Jose.
  3. If you don't have to pickup any of the contract, it would be almost difficult for a deal not to be worth it.
  4. UZR has Hoffpauir a -22 defender as an outfielder. That's over less than 50 games, but it's relatively consistent with the type of player he is.
  5. Then maybe LaRussa should hire Canesco, Bonds and Palmeiro as his base and bench coaches with Roger Clemens as his pitching coach and bring in Sammy as a motivational speaker. huh? It would take the pressure off Big (Phony) Mac to have other juicers around. I don't follow. I don't know how he could be more clear. If you're going to bring someone with hitting talents like McGwire's to be your hitting coach, it makes sense to bring someone with speaking talents like Sosa's to be your motivational speaker.
  6. Didn't they lose most of their team? Carroll, Lyons, and Lawrence, or in other words, their frontcourt. They'll be really guard heavy, and how good they end up being will depend on how guys like Safford and Bowers respond to more minutes.
  7. Hey, Mizzou is #32. Neat.
  8. Only 4 of 11 home teams?

  10. In a 12 team league, I lead it in points and am in 7th place at 3-4. Could be worse though, the guy with the 2nd most points is 1-6.
  11. Sosa was 36, had declined significantly for 3 consecutive seasons, and was awful after getting hit in the helmet in 2004. He was also due 17.5 million the next year. Bradley is 32 in 2010, improved as this year went along, and owed 2/21 on his contract. Most importantly, people knew he was crazy last offseason and there were still teams lining up to offer him a contract. This isn't to suggest that Bradley will get traded for value without having to eat any of his contract(even without his baggage he isn't a guarantee to be worth it), but that the Sosa comparisons aren't very good.
  12. Nothing important? Kenny and Ricketts have already met with the officials in Naples, twice. Kenney added the following: "Collier County has a number of suitable locations for a world-class spring training facility." This is legit from the people I have talked to that I know ho live down there. Florida is not that bad for ST. I have worked that area several times during ST. If it happens, expect many games with the Red Sox and Twins who train in nearby Ft. Myers. You're quoting a post from two months ago.
  13. The Cavs are going to run roughshod over the East, it's going to be awesome.
  14. There isn't a great track record for great hitters being great hitting coaches. So without knowing much of anything about McGwire the coach, I hope this continues and his past becomes a huge distraction.
  15. Two more wins gives Iowa State a legitimate shot at the north, as long as they end up being the right two.
  16. Blake Parker and Casey Coleman Huseby and Watkins were higher bonus buys but still way outside the Top 5 rounds And of course Matt Williams.
  17. I especially enjoyed how ridiculous some of the turnovers were. A red zone interception where two players from each team get a hand on the ball? Fumbling the ball away at the goal line after someone gets a hand on your back heel?
  18. The AFL is the most hitter friendly league in the world, the average OPS is over .800. I'm not too worried about any pitchers getting hit hard. If anything it's exciting that Parker is doing so well down there.
  19. Resized windows aren't loading horizontally for me. For example, I have ESPN 360 open on one half of my screen, and a browser window open on the other. If I try to scroll across the browser window on NSBB, I get gray all the way across, even though I might even be typing in that space, like I am now.
  20. It didn't have supplemental, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks. yeah but then they dropped $10M on samardzija then gave big bonuses to rundle and anderson, who suck, and huseby, who's a closer but came along a little bit. not having high draft picks hurts but the first round pick wasn't good, they overpaid for samardzija and then gave big bonuses to the wrong guys later in the draft. Numbers-wise there's still a huge disadvantage by losing those draft picks, even though they did overslot those guys. Plus they've actually got several guys who will have MLB careers(Samardzija, Clevenger, Parker, Colvin), and Huseby has turned things around as a reliever, so it's not as if they struck out on any value from the class.
  21. The SEC still has 12 games left against non-conference patsies(LA Monroe, Eastern Michigan, Tulane, Furman, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Arizona, Memphis, Troy, Louisiana Tech, Florida Int'l and Chattanooga). That's why the SEC has some inflated Sagarin scores. The rest of the BCS conferences combined have 11 such games left.
  22. And Mississippi State. And Kentucky. And Arkansas.
  23. What's the compelling evidence that the middle of the SEC is head and shoulders above that of other conferences? Beating up on FCS and C-USA teams?
  24. The problem is that the SEC has about seven Wisconsin/Oklahoma States, not two or three. No, they don't. Oklahoma State beat Georgia. UCLA beat Tennessee. Those teams are not any better than Michigan State or Kansas or Oregon State or a middle of the pack ACC team(read: all of them). The crowning achievement of those seven teams is Auburn beating West Virginia, and even that's like the 5th best team in the awful Big East.
