  1. Really good read. Talks a lot about his repertoire and his approach to pitching. Link
  2. There's a 9 game package. Link
  3. Agreed, but Fuld doesn't have the ceiling and is already 28. The point of getting Pie is that he can do what Fuld can do now (minus the OBP ability, but he's improving), and still has the possibility of becoming something like the CFer we thought he once could be. He needs at bats to realize that potential. He's not going to get that being our 4th OF, and considering he hasn't really performed at a level above what's expected of Fuld(at the MLB level at least), I don't really see it being a worthwhile endeavor. Plus it's an impossibility considering his history as a Cub.
  4. Rep. I'll be the first to say that the Big East is down this year (which a lot of people projected before the season). Maybe I'm a homer, but with KU, UT and KSU as the tier one teams in the big 12, and Baylor, Mizzou, and OK St/A&M as the tier two, I'd say the Big 12 is the toughest. Kenpom says it's the ACC, though. I don't buy KSU as a tier 1 team. Beating UT at home is nice, but UT is about to lose another road game, and as I type this KSU is about to lose to OSU at home and they've already lost to Mizzou on the road.
  5. Pretty much all the descriptors you used apply to Fuld as well. And his skill set likely lends itself better to success in a part time role.
  6. LeBron is a Top 10 assist guy in the league, taking the ball out of his hands more for a point guard would make them less efficient. As for their offense, it might seem that way because of LeBron's involvement(which is absolutely what they should do given his talents), but there is definitely some sophistication. Here's an example: Link
  7. They've got pitchers taking up like half their roster.
  8. Good point, I think most of us remember the dominant Harden and forget that he had been regressing. Harden was good last year, the Cubs are worse off without him. He put up a 4.35 FIP and sub-2 WAR. They are projected to get that from that spot with Marshall, Gorzelanny, and maybe even Samardzija. EDIT: Even Silva's only projected to be marginally worse. [insert SSR's caveat about hittable pitchers and projections here]
  9. So the primary LH PH most days is either Blanco, Hill, or Fuld? Yikes, be ready soon Castro.
  10. Mike Fontenot as the only viable backup shortstop? Is there someone he's forgetting? It will probably be Hoffpauir instead of Branyan, but I have a hard time seeing another backup infielder making the team right out of camp.
  11. We're talking about a 4th outfielder, he doesn't need to be able to start 150 games. And if Baldelli goes down, the difference between Gomes and whoever replaces Baldelli isn't so great that it's not worth the risk to have the better player(because, again, we're talking about a part time player). Or, if Baldelli's health doesn't check out, go with Nady, who hits LHP like Gomes but doesn't drive a clown car in the outfield.
  12. Nady is coming off a pretty serious injury and Baldelli has a significant injury history as well. Why not take the healthy player? Because he's not as good at baseball as Nady or Baldelli. What is so great about Rocco Baldelli? He hits LHP about as well as Gomes and doesn't try to catch the ball with his face.
  13. Nady is coming off a pretty serious injury and Baldelli has a significant injury history as well. Why not take the healthy player? Because he's not as good at baseball as Nady or Baldelli.
  14. Jonny Gomes is pretty much Jake Fox, albeit a slightly more proven Jake Fox. Not that bad an acquisition with Fuld's defense as the 5th outfielder, but he's so bad defensively that he's not much of an injury fill-in. I like Nady and Baldelli better.
  15. For a road game, losing by 7 to Tech isn't so bad since I think ISU isn't so much different a team than Tech. Especially for the first game without Staiger. Please give Kansas a battle on Saturday so they're worn down come Monday.
  16. I really like Sam Fuld, so I'm okay with having Baldelli's health risk as the other reserve outfielder. With Hoffpauir and Colvin around, we aren't exactly stuck with a worst-case scenario if Rocco doesn't work out.
  17. Hitting may require some more refined reflexes that cause fluctuations, but that's all there is, you swing. Defensively there's a much wider range of what you have to do physically, and frankly there's much more time during each defensive play to do something wrong.
  18. Curling, also known as Scottish Tetris
  19. I think that's where you're wrong. I think defensive performance does vary from play to play and from game to game just like offensive performance varies from PA to PA and from game to game. We'll have to agree to disagree. That's your argument, that defense is a static ability?
  20. There's a strong consensus with projections that Wells will be around a 4.15 FIP for about 160 IP this year. That's about a 2.5 WAR, and puts him among the Top 50 SP from last year. I will take that from the 3rd-4th best starter in my rotation.
  21. Mizzou loses in Norman, ugh. Rimmed out way to many looks, and then Hightower made sure there wasn't any comeback in the last minute. Week off before a home game against Nebraska, take care of business and it's 3-1 heading into Lawrence.
  22. Good for Norm. He's a class act but he's 63 and already has a championship ring courtesy of USC. Makes sense that he would want to stay with a program with less pressure, tradition and expectations. Less sanctions too. Don't forget sanctions.
  23. I love Cales as a prospect more than anyone this side of his family, but he's not close to the number 7 guy in the system.
  24. I know, right? Who wants to see stuff where people compete based on time or other tangible factors. I'd much rather see a panel of judges score the participants arbitrarily. Basically, if it's not a race or curling, it's a waste of time. Which is like 80% of the Winter games.
