  1. Zobrist was hitting .410/.500/.667/1.167 in May before his two hits today.
  2. - cheaper to acquire - less expensive contract - longer team control - better injury history and extreme distrust that Fernandez's will make him worth the cost - currently performing at a higher level - belief that Teheran can be better/more sustainably good than he is even now
  3. This is even more off topic and almost certainly a hot take, but I'd rather trade for Teheran than Fernandez.
  4. You mean like this? http://nypost.com/2016/05/24/silent-matt-harvey-confirms-hes-the-phony-mets-have-enabled/ Holy hottest of hot takes. That headline alone just blasted my face like I was looking at the Arc. I knew it was coming and I still laughed out loud at the headline. Amazing.
  5. I have a theory that the front office cares very very little about having a good LOOGY. I doubt it. Maybe not a LOOGY but you need at least a decent LHP out of the pen. I think they think they can find one at the deadline. And I think it's gonna be Andrew Miller unless the Yankees keep winning. It is only a theory, but the Cubs haven't really prioritized LH relievers. They gave away Wesley Wright after a good season, they waited til the middle of Spring Training to get Phil Coke and gave him the job, and cycled through more retreads(Russell then Richard) when he bombed. I think they want a guy who is left handed in the pen so that they can take advantage of the *hitter's* inability to hit LHP rather than the LHP's inherent awesomeness at getting same handed hitters out. When that reliever can serve a dual purpose like a long man(see Wood and Richard) that's even better. That's not to say they'll actively avoid LHP, but the current 'gap' in LHRP is one that has been there since they non-tendered Wright. I don't think they care much that it continues as long as they have RHRP that are hard on them, like Grimm, Strop, and Rondon.

  7. I'm oddly reassured to see him botch that play, makes his offensive improvement seem more real and not like some video game dream.
  8. Somebody say Shaq and cars? [tweet]https://twitter.com/pattymo/status/734766351236091904[/tweet]
  9. ERA leaders (min 80 IP), last calendar year Arrieta 1.35 Kershaw 1.42 Hill 1.97 Brach* 1.98 Betances* 2.10 Strasburg 2.25 *RP
  10. wow did Pena sneak up on me with that bullpen dominance Edwards is really rounding into form, have to put pretty decent odds that he'll come up for Fedorowicz once Heyward is good to go.
  11. Correct. This is the most difficult month of the season schedule-wise, 18 games against playoff contenders. The Cubs are 10-4 in those games. Despite losing 8 of 12 they're still playing at a 109 win pace overall. The pitching has continued to be solid. Things are more than fine.
  12. We can do without this type of additional commentary. They weren't attacking you or your viewpoint in that post but just explaining that opinion in more detail, which has utility beyond convincing you to join a particular side. No need to make it adversarial, if you've already agreed to disagree, just let it be.
  13. oh man that 1 second of Maddon airtime was so worth it, I've been waiting for that since they tweeted him in the Bryzzo polo with crazy hair during the shoot.
  14. Tim Ream just scored in this Puerto Rico friendly and not one of the 4 camera angles the broadcast has caught him actually striking the ball.
  15. I am happy that Edwards had a good outing but bummed that means I probably won't see him pitch tomorrow.
  16. Lopez has extreme splits, you can't let pretty much anyone but Rizzo face him from the left side if you can help it.
  17. For some reason your posts continue to require mod approval far past the normal 5 or so that new posters generally require. I'll look into it when I can. ok that would be great ...i mean I can start another account if need be I just made a change to try to help with this, let us know if you still need approval.
  18. In what way were the Cubs or Maddon burnt by Motte? Also, Rodney was great as a Cub and even better this year in San Diego, so I'd go with 'rescued' or 'fixed' as verbs to describe his tenure.
  19. For those unfamiliar with the strike zone's history, This change would be more about restoring the previous status quo, here's a link that sums up the recent trends: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015 ... story.html And it has pretty pictures: https://c.o0bg.com/rf/image_1920w/Boston/2011-2020/2015/07/16/BostonGlobe.com/Sports/Images/strikezonemainWEB2.jpg https://c.o0bg.com/rf/image_1920w/Boston/2011-2020/2015/07/16/BostonGlobe.com/Sports/Images/strikezonetimelineWEB.jpg The intentional walk thing I don't really have strong feelings on, although is there another place in the game where actual game play is skipped over like that?
  20. At all times, Hunter Pence looks like there's an invisible rubber band pulling half his body in the wrong direction
  21. So David Ross is now like 4th in MLB catcher fWAR
  22. "I get to go do the thing that I'm better at than everyone else in the world except for like one guy who is hurt anyway. sweet"
  23. can you imagine having to watch Hunter Pence take 600 plate appearances every year I think that's against the Geneva convention
