  1. There is something particularly delightful about taking the first 2 games of a series AND THEN having Arrieta take the mound, this is the 3rd or 4th time it's happened too.
  2. Waston with a straight red in extra time, that'll certainly help the US.
  3. I don't think Shields was going to move the needle a ton on his trade value in the next 7 weeks, and for the possibility of getting better prospects, there's also the possibility that things get worse for Shields or he gets hurt.
  4. I wasn't sure how I wanted this Costa Rica/Paraguay game to shake out, but then I heard Joel Campbell's name so now hopefully Paraguay wins by 4 goals.
  5. 17 year old shortstops become 22 year old third basemen and left fielders. Junior Lake is a very good example.
  6. That's a good move, if Cooper can help cure Shields' homeritis it could be a very good one.
  7. Melvin Upton with a wicked slide to straight steal home. [tweet] [/tweet]
  8. IMO, that's better. If it were me saying the same thing I'd go with something like* "the huge wave of prospects we've had that have become productive MLB starters right away gives us a convenient baseline to compare others to. Contreras looks like a starter in that light, but even with his improvement Almora still needs to improve/a platoon partner." *I write that out not to be condescending, but to take you at your word, and also because I spend all day writing and tone policing emails so it's an occupational hobby
  9. I thought the backline looked pretty good. Zardes and Wood were about as expected, Clint was the most dangerous attacker but still doesn't look completely comfortable. Bradley played most of the second half like had taken a blow to the head. I'm a Bedoya-hater, but he and Jones really shouldn't be starting in the same 11 against good opposition. They just aren't going to be dangerous enough in the attack, even considering Yedlin and Fab can get forward. How many times were there 2 US players converging on the same spot/ball accidentally?
  10. It's very, very easy to make a point without saying that a faceless opposing argument is dumb.
  11. You said "If you're looking to hand Almora CF uncontested after that, please punch yourself in the balls." That goes a wee bit past parsing word choices, especially since there has been pretty much zero chatter about handing Almora CF uncontested here. Here being NSB, the website where you made the comment.
  12. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO CARD THEM, THAT'S LIKE 8 CYNICAL FOULS STOPPING ATTACKS
  13. lol, no don't card anyone when they hack anyone with the ball in the attacking half, but call that a PK, go ahead
  14. La Stella is hitting doubles in 10% of his plate appearances.
  15. I'm traveling and not watching today but is gameday correct and that Jean Segura not only did not get an extra base hit, but in fact struck out? Was the on field delay for a plague of locusts?
  16. Or maybe he's lost velocity and there's a classification problem.
  17. Montero hit the RF board, is likely the one you're thinking of.
  18. New market efficiency is rotating half your position players in at catcher.
  19. Underwood's gonna make some organization really happy someday. It'll be his 5th organization and it'll be as a waiver claim turned 7th inning reliever, but it'll happen.
  20. lol, Rizzo has almost as many votes as the other four 1B combined
  21. well one of these guys is going down at some point this season, you need 5-7 starters and neither Baez or Soler know how to play baseball. They will probably need someone, but using your best MLB trade assets for a short term stopgap isn't a great way to do it. So trade Baez/Soler for a SP if you want to(like if you think Bosio can fix Matt Moore, he's under control for 3.5 years), and I'm on board with trading for someone who can be a SP(I floated Drew Hutchison in another thread). Just don't trade Baez or Soler for someone who is not one or both of 1) really really good or 2) under control for a long time.
  22. Warren's complete lack of control this year is maybe the most disappointing part of this season.
  23. Is Eovaldi... clearly better than any of our current starters? No under team control long term? No So hard no on using Baez or Soler to acquire him. He's not at all a bad pitcher, but he sits in a weird spot where he doesn't currently displace an existing SP, but he's been good enough that you aren't buying low on potential. And even if you were, you don't get to enjoy that potential for more than a year. If either of the above factors were different I could get on board, but I don't like the fit for Eovaldi.
