  1. Not a lawyer, but if he wanted to go after them my guess is he'd have decent standing for them profiting off his likeness without consent considering the use of his name and caricature in a promotion.
  2. Welcome! There's been 2 games since Velazquez went nuts. The first was against one of the hardest throwing RH SP in the league, a bad matchup for Velazquez. The second was after Seiya's return, which further limited the spots where Nelson could be played. Going forward it's going to be tough for him to get regular starts, since he's got to be the best option at DH from a group that includes Mancini and a LHH in Rios, unless somebody else is being rested. He could also spell Bellinger against some LHP, which I think we may see since they face lefty starters on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
  3. AFAIK Brock was, I just took care of tonight’s thread
  4. How many games in his life has Gomes hit a HR and stolen a base, can’t be more than 2
  5. Bailey Horn with 4.2 hitless to start the season, 10/2 K/BB
  6. Morel HR, we're over 50 PA now and his OPS is a hair under 1.400
  7. If Rios was preferred over Mastro then why did Mastro play twice as much
  8. With a 7 man pen I'd be a little surprised if they swapped a RP for an RP, though it's clearly not impossible. Especially since Hughes is probably only a couple days away so they have a buffer for any rest issues by just banishing Merryweather(or Estrada) to mop up duty in the game before Hughes' return.
  9. I mean it's not offensive, they won a series, no one died or anything. Given their broader situation it does have real strong 'please pay attention to me' vibes though, which makes it more dumb than anything.
  10. I think they'll mostly be fine, but more recently they've gotten out over their skis a little bit. Acuna and Albies are only extended through age 28 with options thru age 30, Harris and Strider are only through age 29(both have at least one option too), and even though Murphy is extended through age 33 he has a high floor as a catcher and is only on 15M AAV. It's the Olson and Riley deals that might hurt, both on over 20 million and both through age 35. One or both becoming roster anchors after a couple years is definitely going to tie a hand behind their back. Their farm appears to be drying up too, in 2019 Fangraphs had them with 10 players at 50 or better FV, as of last summer it was 0.
  11. Okay Caissie, okay. Him going full Mervis on Tennessee would be a really fun development.
  12. FWIW I think any difference is mostly down to the social forums, I haven't noticed a big difference in actual baseball chatter. A big part of that is certainly access, and maybe some other stuff like navigation or comfort in using the new site(or being locked out).
  13. I think this has always been the plan, to cross the LT in 2024. They've taken abundant care to not cross the LT this year, between multiple extensions starting in 2024, and waiting longer than was comfortable to sign Mancini/finish the bullpen at their price point. I'm less certain than you are that Stroman is opting out, but I also don't think his replacement would sit at a drastically different LT value so it's less a question of finances and more one of opportunity/availability. The other somewhat contrarian take I'll have is that I'm not positive they're going to be looking for a new catcher next year. Gomes has a 6 million club option, and as long as he hits to 2022 levels and not his current .174 wOBA, I could very much see that getting picked up given how much players in that range cost and how dire the catcher market is next year. In fact it's dire enough that if Barnhart can hit the ball hard like he has so far(despite unlucky results) I'd wonder if the Cubs approach him about ripping up the rest of his deal and tacking on a Gomes-level extension.
  14. PCA 1B, Amaya BB, Caissie grand slam off a LHP
  15. Especially without Hernandez the Myrtle Beach lineup is pretty dire, really highlights the pitching focus from the draft last year.
  16. lol did Willie Harris change out of the tight pants after Boog and JD talked about it?
  17. I gave them crap for the zone but that's a great call on the SB, I wouldn't have thought anything of it had they called him safe
  18. Kelenic going for the Kirk Nieuwenhuis Memorial Series Killer of the Year
  19. brutal 3-1 call, one of the lowlights of a particularly bad umpiring series
  20. Benintendi was tossed out as an imperfect but probably not too far off comp. Happ has been more consistent and is a better defender but overall production wise isn't too different and Benintendi reached FA a year younger. Benintendi got 5/75 this offseason.
  21. Another deal that will expire after 2026, which someone on Twitter pointed out is also when the current CBA expires.
  22. The big factors are the existing roster's performance, and fit/balance on the roster. Mervis is probably not going to come up while Hosmer has a near .400 OBP and 114 wRC+ unless Mancini is hurt or completely craters(which they're going to give much more than 2 weeks to decide given his 2 year deal). The question is how quick the trigger is if and when Hosmer stops producing. Morel is more about balance. He bears a fair amount in common with Wisdom(who is hitting well) and Velazquez as a hitter in terms of strengths/weaknesses, so while he's probably going to outproduce Madrigal or Mastrobuoni in a vacuum, the opportunities he would have for playing time would set him up for failure and/or imbalance the lineup against the types that all of Wisdom/Morel/Velazquez (not to mention Rios and Bellinger) struggle with in particular.
  23. I didn't hear it myself, but I did see someone on Twitter catch Jed make a mention of 'positive conversations' with Happ on the broadcast last night.
  24. Off day tomorrow helps, as does Stroman being the SP (knock on wood). Rucker is definitely down, Alzolay probably is too, but you can get away with using anyone else in the right situation. If Stroman gets knocked around you eat it but otherwise let him work through things and get 5-6 and let Keegan/Boxberger/Fulmer be plan A.
