  1. Sorry...I didn't hear your husband. I was there wearing a grey Cubs shirt and a blue Cubs BP hat. My wife was next to me in a blue 1980's style pullover. Where were you guys sitting? I was on the rightfield line in the first section of Loge seats. Section 231 IIRC.
  2. No worries, you made all the appropriate disclaimers in your post.

  4. Yeah, Miller had a frayed labrum. On the other hand, so did Matt Morris, and he's better than ever.
  5. Does anyone really think the Astros are better than us? They've gotten some unexpected pitching(Wheeler, Pettitte), but I really doubt that Pettitte maintains that success. Plus their offense really isn't very good for playing half their games in MMP. I'm not saying that we're without flaws, but I've seen comments about acquiring players in order to "keep pace" with the Astros. Also, whatever happened to Mike Scott and Jimyisamisspell?
  6. We need a "about to puke while smashing head into a wall" smiley.
  7. His walk rate has been pretty good thus far, and his IsoP has been very good as well, both encouraging signs. Hopefully he can start getting more hits soon.
  8. Not to nitpick, but The trade is pretty even financially either way. The Cubs are paying 1.8 mil to Hairston and 15.5 to Sosa, 17.3 total. Had they just kept Sosa, they would have owed him 17.875 mil. Add in the fact that Burnitz likely would not have been signed for 5 mil if not for the deal, and I don't think you can make the argument the Cubs would be paying more this year with Sosa.
  9. I went to see the A's play the Indians this year, but they were in their crappy phase and lost. I got to see that sweet Elarton v. Saarloos pitching matchup.
  10. Over half of Neifi's career at bats came as a Rockie. His highest OPS+ for a full season ever is 82. That qualifies under "super-duper bad".
  11. WOW. First game I've been to since 2003, and I get Blanco and Perez driving in 6 of 8 runs. The crowd reaction after the Ramirez and Perez home runs was amazing. For his contributions to this most stellar of wins, I hereby swear not to speak ill of Neifi....for a week. Terms of promise subject to change without notice.
  12. IIRC, he went 7 innings in his last start. Here's his last 4 starts from what I can gather: 7/1: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 5/1 7/5: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6/2 7/14: 6 scoreless, 4 H, 5/2 7/19: 7 scoreless, 3 H, 6/0 That's 21 IP, 6 ER, 17 H, and 22/5. 2.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 9.43 K/9, and a 4.4 K/BB. Really solid work.
  13. Sing = Dubois Hopefully his defense is good enough to be trusted with the heavy defensive responsibility of a corner OF spot.
  14. I don't understand this criticism. Novoa wasn't trying to walk Pujols, he was just being careful(he was also robbed of a strike call in the AB) with him. If you leave Ohman in, who has been bad against RH this year, a mistake he makes in pitching around Pujols is more likely to hurt you than a mistake by the right handed Novoa who has better stuff.
  15. I'm not disagreeing with you, but if you pitchout 1-1, it almost guarantees the squeeze at 2-1 unless you are trying to walk him. Actually that would not have been a bad move, to walk him. He meant nothing as a runner, and would have set up a double play. That's true, but that also brings you one step closer to Pujols and Edmonds without getting an out. It's basically putting all your eggs in one basket that you get the DP ball. The odds that Pujols(Or Edmonds if you walk Pujols) beats you with 2 outs is higher than Eckstein beating you with 1 IMO. I almost forgot, Welcome to the Forum!!
  16. Can you support that stance? The Sox are scoring half a run less this year than last per game. There can be games where you score 10 runs and then next day get shutout and still avg a higher RPG than teams that consistently score 5 rpg. It's all about consistency and that's what guys like Pod bring, that's a player that consitently finds ways to get on base and steal them, I don't care if you avg 10 rpg if you score all those runs in half your games played. It's too late to start now, but tomorrow or at the next opportunity, I'm testing this theory.
  17. So if I understand you correctly, you're saying that the pitcher is affected by Pierre being on the basepaths, causing that pitcher to perform worse. So, if Pierre is on the basepaths less often, like this year compared to previous years, then shouldn't players behind him also be performing below expectations because the pitcher is focused on them more often? Let's take a look at that. Pierre hitting #1 2003: .302/.359/.370/.729 (667 PA's) 2004: .336/.382/.422/.804 (632 PA's) 2005: .272/.319/.357/.676 (385 PA's) Luis Castillo hitting #2 2003: .325/.389/.406/.794 (590 PA's) 2004: .285/.372/.332/.704 (488 PA's) 2005: .333/.423/.415/.838 (271 PA's) As you can see, Pierre's success seems to have the opposite effect on Castillo. Maybe it's an aberration, but it's certainly food for thought.
  18. Has he been playing the field or DHing? DHing.
  19. Hairston has a .349 OBP. He hasn't been close to .370 for some time.
  20. Welcome! How did you "hear" it? I'm a little confused.
  21. Because Dusty Baker is our manager... No way he does this if we're not facing LaRussa. Come on Novoa.
  22. I have faith in Ohman. He gets most of his guys out just has problems wit occasional wildness. Here comes Novoa Me too. I was talking about his delivery, along with the high socks.
