  1. Then why does everyone go nuts when Macias or Enrique Wilson get/got ABs? Because Gerut is good at hitting right handed pitching. Macias and Wilson are offensive black holes.
  2. I'd still like to hear something :) BTW, can anyone tell me if the BBTN at 12:30 ET is a repeat? Or is it an abbreviated trade deadline special? I know the big show they do is on later, but I work this afternoon . . . The DirecTV info doesn't say repeat, and it says live, but I can't tell you for sure.
  3. Fontenot continues to show why he belongs on the big league bench. Montanez with another good game and an XBH. He's hitting .309/.356/.491/.847 at AA.
  4. That's a much more detailed version of something I daydreamed about earlier. Of course I've probably tried everything in my power to make Manny a Cub and so far nothing has worked yet. I'm sorry if I let you guys down. Don't despair just yet. We still got 15 hours to go. Keep the faith! At least for another 14:30 hours anyway. The Nomar deal wasn't announced to the public until a few hours after the deadline, right? So technically we have a few extra hours. I thought it was within an hour after the deadline, but your point remains. 4:00 ET isn't a hard deadline for news to come out.
  5. could you or some other gracious poster out here do the same for me too? i might be able to listen to some of the game on and off, but chances are i probably won't know the latest updates on deals and stuff. I have AIM on my phone so i would greatly appreciate all of the help :D Sure, just IM me with your sn and I'll try and help you out.
  6. Score! You guys hear that, that means my opinion means more than you!
  7. High School or elsewhere? If its high school, it seems to largely depend on what state you live in. Were you in one on those sports-crazy places or somewhere like South Dakota? I played in Ohio, where HS sports are a pretty big deal. However, I played soccer, which doesn't have as strong a following as other sports, and Baseball, which doesn't have the same passion that football or basketball does.
  8. Wow, didn't realize how mediocre Milledge has been this year. My description of Gerut/Cameron was made with little research, so my adjective describing their disparity may be off.
  9. Milledge is better than Pie, and Cameron is a little better than Gerut. So it would definitely take Pie. At least in that incarnation of the deal.
  10. That's basically Gerut, Pie, 15 million and a pitching prospect equivalent, IMO.
  11. 1) I dont know. Id probably do the same thing in their situation. Anything to throw off the opposing team....theres a limit which Ill explain in a second. 2) Surprisingly, even in a HS situation, when you have a ball-hog or someone who is just plain arrogant, the fans let him/her have it and sometimes rightly so. I remember one person in particular went something like 2 for 14 from three point range and he got some heat especially from the student section. I do have a limit, though. Threatening a player or his family/friends is way beyond the line even in jest. Also, throwing objects at a player not matter how soft is wrong. I will admit, though, that I wasnt entirely displeased to see J.D. Drew pelted. I have a different experience than you I guess. I've never heard anything of that magnitude towards the team they root for. In my experience, I thought much less of the fans who taunted the other team or myself. In particular, I had a fan heckle me for having "hairy arms"(I was wearing a long sleeve jersey), and try and get on me when I celebrated with my team after a goal. I thought they were morons, and definitely thought less of them and their fan base because of their inane taunts. Like I said earlier, I suppose you have a different experience than me.
  12. For crying out loud, NO ONE IS SAYING YOUR OPINION MEANS LESS. NO ONE HAS SAID THAT, NOR IS ANYONE IMPLYING THAT. I'm going to say that one more time to make sure. NO ONE IS SAYING, IMPLYING OR OTHERWISE COMMUNICATING THAT YOUR OPINION MEANS LESS BECAUSE YOU ARE NEW, OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT READ SOMEONE ELSE'S OPINION. Geez, all anyone did was ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.
  13. Uh, I thought the Twins made Joe Mauer the #1 overall selection with Prior being second? :? Bullington went #1 overall in the 2002 draft.
  14. By telling me to go back and read your posts your implying tat I'm not worthy to post on this subject unless I read all of your posts, which also implies that your opinoin is more valid than mine. This quote serves to imply this as well. In case you haven't noticed this is a site for amatuers. Just because some of the poster I'm arguing with have 1000 + posts doesn't meant they know jack about baseball or the Cubs or anything else, and just because I don't have very many posts doesn't mean I don't know jack about baseball or the Cubs. I'm not I know more than you do, I'm just saying that my opinoin is not worth less than yours just because you've bee on this site longer than me. Good grief. YOU ASKED WHY PEOPLE AT THIS SITE DON'T LIKE DUSTY. PEOPLE LINKED YOU TO A SOURCE OF AMPLE INFORMATION TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION. They linked you to these debates since you were new, AND WERE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE OR SEE IN THEM WHEN THEY HAPPENED. No one is saying your opinion means less, they were just trying to answer your question with the most complete information.
  15. Better make sure you're not at work when that happens then. Or, wear a hat to throw or something.
  16. Two things, and I have played HS sports and heard some bad things from fans: 1) What did you think of the fans of those teams? 2) Were those taunts and chants towards members of the team they root for?
  17. Stark just got a phone call on BBTN. He said that Winn is going to SF for Torrealba and Foppert.
  18. Welcome to the forum!
  19. Where did anyone say anything remotely resembling that? Some people suggested that you read about some of the past Dusty debates since you are a relatively new poster, and you asked why people don't like Dusty. No one said that any opinion was more valid because a person has been on the site longer, or anything close to that.
  20. Will Carroll said that the Cubs and Twins are done making deals. Other than that there hasn't been a whole lot else new. Manny didn't start tonight, and there's rampant speculation to the reason for it, ranging from him not showing up at the ballpark, to a trade being consumated.
  21. So would Reyes replace Marquis in the rotation? SD and STL seem to have a decent working relationship(Woody Williams).
  22. If you are only taking into account this years numbers than yes, Moore would rate higher than Dope. But Dope has shown in the past that he can be a legit 40 home run guy. Clearly he hasn't shown that this year, but the potential is undoubtedly there for him to be an above-average offensive first baseman. Moore, who is a full year older than Dope, has many of the same concerns (as you mention) and he doesn't have the immense power potential the Dope possesses. I worry that Moore won't be able to hit enough to play every day at first base (assuming he can't handle third). Dope is only a month younger than Moore. To me it seems that both players have had one big year, and one down year, with Moore's and Dopirak's switched between Low and High A. Neither did anything at Low A at age 19, but Moore got promoted while Dope didn't. My mistake on the age thing. I wouldn't really consider Dope to have recieved a full season at Lansing when he was 19, but that's just nitpicking. The real problem that I have with your argument is saying that "they both had one big year." It is somewhat truthful, Dope has had one season that has gotten him attention, same for Moore. But comparing the two doesn't make sense. Dope hit 39 home runs and hit for a .307 average. Moore is likely to hit about .275 with his home run total in the low-20's. When you take into account league, the difference is smaller, but it is still large. Dope hit 39 home runs, when Moore hits that many and sustains a .300 average I'll start getting really excited about him. I just don't see the same power potential. Cool. Thanks for the explanation.

  24. Am I the only one who doesn't get the big stink about this guy? Yes he has pretty good power, but his plate discipline is poor (averaging a strikeout a game this year and throughout his professional career) and he's really only having a solid year at a level he played at last season. At least Brandon Sing walks a lot and destroyed the levels that he's repeated. I feel like if Moore had been drafted in the 20th round instead of 8th overall, nobody would think anything of him. I'd also like to point out his errors so far at third base this season. Good point. Scott Moore the first baseman is far less attractive than Scott Moore the third baseman. He's become a solid prospect, but I wouldn't rate him in the top 5. My top five in no particular order: Pie Harvey Dope Cedeno Murton Why is Moore, who has many errors at a more difficult defensive position and much better offensive production, rated lower than Dope? I can understand concerns about Moore, but wouldn't they still hold true with Brian(except with lower BB and K ratios)?
