  1. That trade rumor was an unnecessary qualifier.
  2. Mizzou had a good comeback from 15 down to take the lead late in the game, but lost by 3 at Arkansas. Promising sign considering what Arkansas has done on a neutral court thus far.
  3. Teams get ripped for kicking field goals to pad leads too. 4th and Goal is a no-win situation for a team with a huge lead in a football game. A field goal is reasonable, and expected, on 4th and goal. A TD is not when the lead is that big. It is classless. Because either way, the points are meaningless. If you kick the FG, you're going for easy, gimme points. I have heard of many teams that will never kick field goals on 4th down when they're up big. Besides, the play you're talking about, Texas was up 37-13 with 10 minutes left to go in the game. That's not an overwhelming score like you're making it out to me. I would guess that most coaches would go for it on 4th and goal from the 1 yard line in that situation. I've seen much, much worse examples of running up the score, like Steve Spurrier, or Ohio $tate throwing deep on Illinois with under 3 minutes to go in this year's contest and a 38-3 lead. Mizzou hadn't scored since the first quarter, it was a rout by that point. There wasn't any doubt about Mizzou coming back, FG, TD, or no score.
  4. Colorado has absolutely collapsed. They only had two losses on the road to Miami and Texas after they stomped Mizzou(not to say that it's difficult to stomp Mizzou, it just happens to be their last win). Then they lost up in Ames, got humiliated in every possible fashion by Nebraska, and are getting taken behind the woodshed now by Texas. Complete meltdown.
  5. Teams get ripped for kicking field goals to pad leads too. 4th and Goal is a no-win situation for a team with a huge lead in a football game. What's the logic behind ripping a team for kicking a field goal? The only way I could see is if it was a long field goal, which certainly isn't the case on 4th and goal.
  6. I was going to as 100? I hate it when teams run up the score, but against Barnett, I could look the other way. EDIT: Not that Texas is running up the score. All they are doing is running and Colorado still can't stop them. They should not be caught off guard by the run. UT is classless. Against Mizzou, they went for it on 4th and goal near the end of the 3rd quarter up 4+ scores. bitter? Terribly. It's poor sportsmanship, their fans booed the referees mercilessly when they went to halftime of that game too because they had a bunch of penalties in the first half.

  8. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/huffau01.shtml Those numbers bear out that he's decidedly subpar. BP2005 categorizes him as a "high-quality hitter with a low-quality glove". And STATS and most scouts I've seen say he's perfectly adequate. BP is, well - BP. Consider the source. I never said that BP was gospel, but it's not garbage either, and certainly not myth.
  9. I think there's quite a difference rehabbing your torn labrum, and rehabbing a torn labrum that is your entire livelihood. Really? What's the difference? Either it's fully healed, or it's not. If anything, I would think Wood's rehab would be better, as he's alot more motivated to do exactly what the Dr prescribes, whereas someone else (like Pedro above) may have a full time job and may not always be able to spend the time doing all of the rehab. Wood doesn't have anything to do all winter except work on his arm. There's a difference being rehabbed to the point where you can live everyday life, and being rehabbed to the point of repeatedly making the violent motion that is pitching with that labrum.

  12. Iowa State would've done better than this, too bad they couldn't get past Kansas.
  13. If Williams had enough innings to qualify(remember his best work was in September, so it's not as if he was fading), he would've been 25th in the NL in ERA, between Penny and Livan. He didn't have amazing peripherals, but for a guy who turns 24 tomorrow, he certainly is valuable.
  14. Lee just had the definition of a career year. He's not going to put up a 1.200 OPS again, his second half was the beginning of his regression. His current value is out of proportion with what he is going to be worth. If you can capitalize on that value, you do it, don't pay lip service to conventional wisdom that says you don't trade him.
  15. Both offer no analysis and have a frightening hatred for actual facts.
  16. Because then they can't get rid of Bradley.
  17. Lowe's contract is not bad, in fact I would say it's avg to good. Especially compared to what the market is dictating this year. he's making 5M more than Kris Benson correct? i think it's a decent contract. Wood is goinng to make 11.5M this year. Benson makes 7.5M each of the next two years with a 7.5M option for '08. Lowe will make 9, 9.5, and 10M the next 3 years.
  18. So Pie + relatively cheap cost of acquiring Bradley/Lowe nets us Bradley and Abreu? I'd do it.
  19. As I asked on the Zambrano/Abreu thread, why not turn around and trade Lowe and a prospect for Abreu? That'd be fine too. I'm fine with taking on Lowe and keeping him or spinning him.
  20. Yesterday I posted that I'd trade Hill and Patterson for those two, and I think the Dodgers might take that. They free up a bunch of money in Lowe, and get a cheap, LH, rotation replacement in Hill, whose FB tendencies will be helped some by Chavez Ravine. They also get a similar cost, talented CF to replace Bradley, who they apparently really want to get rid of.
  21. The Eyre signing doesnt bother me as much as the Neifi and Rusch signs. I liked the Howry signing. Relievers that by rights should have an ERA around 3.50 based on their peripherals are very handy (and both Howry and Eyre are around that mark). But $4m each a year really is a steep price to pay for that. Honestly, at this point with Ryan getting over $9 mill and with Farnsworth getting over $6 mill, do the Eyre and Howry signings look that bad? I understand Ryan is better, but I dont think he is over twice the reliever Howry or Eyre are, and I think they are both better than Farnsworth. Howry is more consistent than Farns, but Farns has had higher performance in the past. Farnsworth is better than Eyre. The problem with all of these signings is the years. Considering their ages and salaries, Farnsworth is probably a bad signing, Howry and Eyre are definitely bad signings, and Gordon is a terrible signing.
  22. Considering that his SB% is over 363 attempts, I doubt it can be attributed to non-Pierre factors. It would be nice to have a guy who steals bases, but I'd prefer that he do them at a rate that helps the team. And how do we know that Pierre has this fantastic work ethic? "In all of the decades I’ve been in the game, I’ve only had two workaholics — Tony Gwynn and Juan Pierre,” Jack McKeon to the AJC 12/1/05 McKeon's known as a straight shooter, been managing forever and has a World Series ring. I'd say he's a pretty competent source. There's a lot more to the game than just stats. That's fine, I was wondering where the thought that Pierre was a hard worker came from. And I never said that stats were all there is to the game. This seems to be a common refrain when people try and discredit the numbers used, then receive a rebuttal.

  24. I didn't see the game, but many fans thought the "Little Dickey" chant was stupid. General intelligence? The Izzone is known for messing with opponents by varying when they start chanting the shot clock, sometimes too early, sometimes too late.
  25. From rotoworld. Who were we going to send that could match that? Hill? When apparently he wouldn't be sent for Dunn? I would have liked Castillo as well, but it looks like the Marlins got solid value for him. 1.32 WHIP, 10.59 K/9, 7.14 H/9, 4.76 BB/9, 0.71 HR/9 1.22 WHIP, 11.62 K/9, 6.17 H/9, 4.84 BB/9, 0.48 HR/9 One of these is Bowyer's numbers at AAA, and the other is Wuertz's numbers at the Major League level.
