  1. I don't think Pujols has very good #'s against him either. Not many people do. That's what makes it fun. :) 8 for 34, .235/.333/.471/.804
  2. From someone less informed than others that post in this thread, I'd actually think from an offensive perspective we're more of a speed team. Beasley is crazy fast, I think every goal I've ever seen Donovan score involved him winning a footrace to a ball, and I believe Johnson is pretty quick as well. IIRC we're pretty physical in the back.
  3. If you're still undecided at the start of the season, they usually run a free trial where the first couple days(week?) of the season is free.
  4. Probably his 627/854/2400 line against the Cubs. R B I
  5. On the other hand, Lee was much better than Beltre for the prior seasons. On the third hand, Beltre was 5 years younger when he hit free agency.
  6. Buehrle walks fewer players, and Zambrano gives up fewer hits, gives up less extra base hits, K's many more, gives up fewer HR, better ERA and ERA+, etc. EDIT: Buehrle averages 7.1 IP per start, Zambrano 6.75
  7. Guess which one of these lines is Soriano's 2005 away line, and which one is Neifi's 2005 line. A) .274/.298/.383/.681 B) .224/.265/.374/.639 Hint: It's B
  8. How does an LA host scoop/know about a deal between D.C. and Chicago? They might as well do this deal to make the team as unlikable as possible for me, cause then they'll win it all.
  9. This being MLB where every single thing that the players wear is for sale, i'm sure somewhere these will be for sale soon. Eastbay has some type of MLB shorts. I don't know if they're the exact design, but they serve the same purpose.
  10. Maybe Rafael and his career .221/.270/.259/.529 line are making a comeback.
  11. That's fine, but if that's what you think without anything to support it beyond conjecture, then you might want to avoid saying:
  12. In case you missed it the first time: Z is two years younger than Buehrle, and has pitched in 2 fewer seasons. In those seasons he has been better than Buehrle on the whole, never going below a 131 ERA+, while Buehrle has been below that mark in 3 of his 5 seasons.
  13. In their years where they didn't do any relief work: Zambrano- 136, 165, 131 ERA+; Average: 144 Buehrle- 140, 129, 108, 126, 143 ERA+; Average: 129
  14. Even before this quote, I was worried about Grissom in LF and Murton in the platoon with Jones. I've seen too many decisions that just defy human thought with Baker not to be at least slightly concerned.
  15. How many people are going to know Mark Prior in some random SoCal ER? 90%? Maybe more? He's pretty tough to miss, and that's his home territory. Exactly. Last offseason we heard all about how Hendry tore his ACL, I can't imagine how one of the most recognizable players on the team going to the hospital near his home wasn't picked up by somebody.
  16. Oh, and we don't know exactly what Murton, Cedeno, Wuertz, Wellemeyer, and Williams will make yet. Of course the difference between their numbers from last year will be negligible, so it won't really matter when talking about total payroll.
  17. Roughly, yeah.
  18. True. Adding in raises to Z, Hairston, and Pierre, plus the completely omitted Ohman adds an additional 6 million to the payroll, not including what I referenced above.
  19. I've really been slack with this offseason's moves, so someone else that has kept up better(JeffH comes immediately to mind) may be able to help more. I will say that several of those figures don't look right at first glance, specifically the aforementioned Neifi, Eyre, Howry, Rusch, Dempster, Barrett(I don't think anyone actually knows the breakdown of his deal), and ARam. From the incomplete info I have, those mistakes or different breakdowns would add at least 7+ million to the final total.
  20. So who's the number 2 when Pettitte comes crashing down to earth?
  21. Sure it is. To use an extreme example, if they raise the mound 5 inches next year, and only two players hit above .250, wouldn't it be a great year if you hit .255, even if you averaged .300 prior to that? Obviously there's no one thing to point to, nor is the change that drastic, but with steroid testing and other factors, offense was down this year. Comparatively speaking, Tejada was better in '05 than in '04.
  22. 2004: 126 OPS+ 2005: 133 OPS+ Offense was down last year.
  23. Yes, the best year of Tejada's career. And it's not like a series of fluke years kept him out. Pujols, Vlad, Ortiz, A-Rod, Delgado. Bay, Cabrera, Young and Teixeira continued their young success as well. Hafner looks like he's here to stay too.
  24. I really don't see how. Tejada's production, considering he is a SS, is pretty remarkable. You might disagree, but it's certainly not ridiculous to rank Tejada third. And I would take him over Lee any day of the week. It's pretty easy to find a decent bat at 1st. Even metrics that rate Tejada's strengths(durability, position scarcity) highly don't put him in the top 10 in baseball.
