  1. That was fun to participate in last year. I'd be up for doing it again. Did we ever check to see how accurate we were?
  2. Must've been running it out as hard as he did in the All-Star Game.
  3. Good ol' Jason Giambi. "If your hands get cold, just put them between your buttocks. That's nature's pocket."
  4. I tried that, but it said I had to sign in as a subscriber to get the game. Do you not have a login for the forums? Its the same I don't subscribe to Gameday. I logged in with that and it said I had to buy Gameday to get it. I'll just follow along here.

  6. You're so far ahead of the Internet. :( Where are you getting this online?
  7. i get the idea that the book on prior is to actually attempt to foul pitches off. it just seems like hitters, when they get behind in the count against him, just try to foul pitches off until he walks them or serves up something somewhat hittable. How is that different from any other pitcher?
  8. Soul's convoluted logic(correct me if I remember wrong) says that if we had a new ballpark, then we wouldn't have a guaranteed revenue through ticket prices. Then in order for ownership to make money, they'd have to make sure the product was good, which means firing front office people in addition to supplying a high payroll. We'll ignore the parts about Cub fans coming out no matter the stadium, and that new management(while I'm certainly not against getting rid of Hendry/Baker/etc.) is no guarantee of success. Even if fans stopped coming to the new stadium, then any owner ever is going to lower payroll, which will lead to a worse product, and so on... If the fans will still attend no matter what even in a new ballpark, then we're screwed. Lower payroll doesn't always equal a worse product, BTW. That's pretty interesting logic on your part. Did you miss the Marlins, Angels, and White Sox World Series recently? So if a team can't be successful with a high payroll, lowering it gives it a chance to succeed? I don't know why I'm even arguing this after "If the fans will still attend no matter what even in a new ballpark, then we're screwed.".

  10. I miss the farns. Really. I still firmly believe he's going to be a very solid setup man/closer for years to come. With the Yankees? Good luck with that. What does that mean? I beleive he is already penciled in as their setup man ahead of flash. He's also in front of David Cone and Jimmy Key. Gordon went to Philadelphia.
  11. Really? Cub supporters are well-traveled fans, and discounting that, there are three modern stadiums within the Chicago city limits. Wrigley thrives because it's great ... not because its patrons are deprived folks who've never seen a game anywhere else and don't know any better. You will all see, when Wrigley finally rots away as it eventually will, most Cub fans will be saying "I loved Wrigley and all, but it *is* nice to finally have a great new ballpark." This is how I feel right now---except the new ballpark hasn't been built yet. I'm about 15 years ahead of the curve. It must be awesome to be you.
  12. I liked Chip and Stoney, and I was worried that we were headed for a "grass is greener" situation with the new announcer. But Len exceeded my expectations, he's much better than Chip. Bob isn't very good, but analysts aren't of much interest to me anyways. Very very few add anything of value to a broadcast.
  13. The Cubs dealt Frank Beltran(developed arm troubles, TJS I believe?), Brendan Harris(solid 2B/3B, not exactly thirsting for those), Alex Gonzalez(hooray), and Jones(90 IP in 1.5 years after the trade, never thrown more than 84 IP in one season) for Nomar and Murton. It wasn't really a bad deal, at the time or in hindsight.
  14. With autodraft, I gotta think Dmitri.
  15. Turns out Scherzer didn't pitch today, according to a buddy of mine he always pitches Fridays, which means he'll go this Friday against UW-Milwaukee at home. Mizzou won handily against Illinois State, final of 18-5.
  16. Italy straight up dominated Germany. I know Germany is struggling with their coach's situation, but perhaps Italy will still be quite potent without Totti.
  17. Huh, when Mizzou rushed the court after the kU game security formed a horseshoe to contain the rushers that worked fine. Of course they were only rushing from the student section which is only at one end of the court.
  18. What did the FSU fans do?
  19. A&M fans decide that it will not. If you're going to storm the court, doing it when you beat your archrival that is ranked in the top 10 is a pretty good time to do it. Wasn't it a buzzer beater too?
  20. Good to see Restovich hitting the lefties, even if it is a retread like Walrond.
  21. I just got BA's prospect handbook and McKamey's Minor League Baseball Analyst. I haven't even opened BA's yet but McKamey's is really impressive. Does a great job of quantifying the scouting aspect by rating a players tools on a 1-5 "+" scale, a paragraph on every player, plus a lot of useful statistics(AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS, BB%, Contact%, XBH rate, RC/G, and others). For pitchers, he grades each of their pitches on the 1-5 scale, with radar ranges when he can get them. Stats include ERA, WHIP, Batters Faced/Game, OBA, H%, S%, xERA, and several others. He also projects each players role, and estimates their MLB debut.
  22. I figured I'd kick off this bad boy with Mizzou's home opener today against Illinois St. They're coming off a mixed bag weekend which saw them dominate #1 Florida, then lose to Wake Forest and Ohio State. Max Scherzer should be pitching for Mizzou today, the Junior right hander is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the upcoming draft.
