  1. He's a running back that is good at runningbacking, he fits the system. Yeah, too much is being made about Howard not being a good receiver. I think it's natural to project the former offense (Chiefs) on the Bears, but the Bears won't have a 4.25 WR (Hill), they won't have the best receiving TE in the league (Kelce) and they don't have a starting RB capable of catching 70 passes. But that's fine, because if the only way Nagy can have success is the replicate the KC offense, then he wasn't a good hire. He will be able to adapt, or he'll be out of a job in 2-3 years. If the system doesn't fit Howard, it doesn't mean something is wrong with Howard, it means something is wrong with the system.
  2. Jimmy Butler might have just torn his ACL. If you're an NBA superstar that values his knees, you might not want to play for Tom Thibideaux.
  3. Don't care what the trade chart says, there's 0 way I'm willing to go from 8 to the 20s and not get a 2nd first round pick. Yeah I wouldn’t do a deal with them for 8 without getting both picks in the 20s. Maybe something like 8 and the 2 4ths for both 20 picks and the third? Yeah, I'd probably do that. Bills got that 2nd first rounder this year by going from 10th overall to 27th. They got a 3rd last year and this year's 1st.
  4. Don't care what the trade chart says, there's 0 way I'm willing to go from 8 to the 20s and not get a 2nd first round pick.
  5. I don't think he was their top rated CB. He had the top rated single game of any CB (against Cincinnati), but looks like he was 22nd overall. https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/kyle-fuller/8649 Also, yes there are plenty of good CBs. Malcolm Butler, Bashaud Breeland, Trumaine Johnson, and EJ Gaines, who are all similar level CBs last year. But I'd take Fuller over all of them due to age (slightly younger than all except a week older than Gaines) and we already know his fit in this defense unlike the others. I also love this CB class in the top 60 picks so I'd certainly be willing to double up at the position, with or without Fuller. That being said, Fuller will be back on a franchise tag.
  6. Burton still has a pretty decent upside. He's been a productive #3 TE in Philly, despite Ertz gets a ton of targets as one of the top TEs in the league. And Celek has been the blocking TE there. Burton has made the most of his snaps. Only on the field for 26.5% of the offensive snaps, yet still caught 23 of his 31 targets and scored on 5 of those catches. His numbers obviously went up as his snap count increased. His 2 best games came when Ertz was out. But going forward, he's a good fit for the Bears. You have a developmental TE in Shaheen who may be a very good receiver eventually, but even when he gets to that point, he's not a guy that's going to threaten the seam and be able to line up in the slot and be a guy that can run the entire route tree keeping the defense on its heels. Shaheen is more of a guy that'll give you catches in the 5-12 yard window in the middle of the field. The Bears can certainly use a #2 TE, H-back type that can be a factor on 3rd and long. The hope is with more snaps, Burton could be a healthy Jordan Reed type of receiver from the move TE position.

    NFL Offseason

Good list. These are the types of guys I want the Bears to look at. Teams usually regret star chasing in free agency in the NFL, unless they are at the point where they are that 1 star player away from being an elite team. I'd also add: Junior Galette- he's turning 30 and going to be 4 years removed from back-to-back double digit sack seasons. But he was one of the most productive pass rushers in limited snaps last year coming off injury. Should only require a 1 or 2 year deal for cheap. Jeremiah Attaochu- had 6 sacks in a limited role in 2015. Dealt with injuries the last 2 years and the Chargers moved to a 4-3 making him an odd fit. Just turned 25. Ross Cockrell- tossed aside by the Steelers after 2016 despite being solid. Above average (per PFF) for the Giants this past season. Kony Ealy- has had a pretty weird career. Slow start, then had a huge Superbowl for Carolina. Traded to the Patriots, who cut him soon after. But then had a decent season for the Jets. Only 26. Also guys like DaQuan Jones, Albert Wilson, Beau Allen, and Donte Moncrief are guys who could either start for a team or have a pretty prominent role for under the 5M per year mark. And if I'm a team like Jacksonville, NY Giants, Saints, etc. that has either an iffy QB or an old QB, I'd definitely bring in Teddy Bridgewater. He's one of my top graded QBs in the last 5 years and is still just 25. He can definitely play if he's healthy.
  8. You forgot... 111. Chicago Bears (from ARI) WR Marcel Ateman, Oklahoma State Draft wire's 7 rounder looks like: 1.8: LB Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech 2.39: WR Courtland Sutton, SMU 4:101: CB Anthony Averett, Alabama 4:111: WR Deontay Burnett, USC 5:136: OT Brandon Parker, North Carolina A&T 6:167: Edge Davin Bellamy, Georgia 7.198: DL BJ Hill, NC State Mix these and give me Edmunds, Kirk, Mata'afa, Averett, Parker, and 7th round Hill (1st is more accurate of where he's picked).
  9. Going back to Canton this year! WOOOOO!
  10. PFF has had him graded highly since he was a rookie. There's always been a big disconnect there vs. what the local media paints him as. This year he got to another level, though, and ranked as one of the best in the league (I think). Amos is kind of boring to the eye. He doesn't really make a ton of mistakes, which metrics love. He doesn't miss many tackles, completely blow assignments in coverage or fail to be in the right place in the run game. But he also doesn't make big flashy plays on the ball or completely shutdown receivers in man coverage. But he was clearly better in the latter this year based on the eye test, while maintaining his discipline elsewhere.
  11. Ridley is a Bears fan and good friends with Eddie Jackson. He stated after they drafted Jackson last year for the Bears to "come get yo boy" too.
  12. He's my current flavor of the week for the 8th pick. He could be Anthony Barr. Same type of size and it appears athletic ability on tape. He and a healthy Trevathan would be fun inside. Kwit in nickel with Edmunds potentially rushing off the edge or blitzing could be great. He's kinda opposite Floyd in that Floyd is a pass rusher that can do so much more that you don't want to limit him to just rushing off the edge. Edmunds is an off-ball, sideline to sideline LB that can do so much more that you don't want to limit him to just running and chasing RBs and TEs. I don't know if Fangio can make the most of him (he is kind of structured as a DC), but if he feel he can I'd be very interested in this pick. I also kinda feel like Pace could really go for the absolute best athlete on the board regardless of position. The big needs for the Bears are OLB, WR, CB, and OL depth. But I expect him to go heavy in free agency to the point where he isn't desperate for any particular position (kinda how he's done the last 3 years). Plus, the guys likely on the board at 8 at those positions are probably reaches (OLB, CB) or not top 10 values (Ridley, Nelson). In general, the Bears need to get faster and more athletic, and we know Pace likes athletic specimen. 2015 1st- Kevin White- ran a 4.35 at 6'3", 215 2016- 1st- Leonard Floyd- ran a 4.6 at 6'6", 244 (fastest time of any pass rusher) Obviously he picked a QB last year. But Shaheen was kind of a huge athletic freak also.
  13. Terrible DPI call against Bouye on the TD before halftime too. I feel like that was Brady fishing for a PI too. Guy was blanketed and he just lollipops it up. Oh yeah and the pass went out of bounds AKA uncatchable.
  14. Terrible DPI call against Bouye on the TD before halftime too.
  15. I think most people think that about Fitzpatrick, but he'd project as a free safety and has literally never taken a snap at FS. He has played some strong safety, but mostly plays slot corner. On his snaps as an outside CB, he's been pretty good but just needs more reps out there. I think you put him on one corner to start, and see if he can handle it before moving him. I think he can. I have Alexander ahead of Ward because of his ability to handle bigger WRs. While there isn't a huge size difference (Ward probably slightly under 5'10", Alexander probably just under 5'11"), Ward had a tough time with Simmie Cobbs and other big WRs and Alexander had a strong performance vs. Clemson's Mike Williams last year.
  16. I wouldnt hate getting the top CB in the draft Me either. Though I don't have Ward as the top CB. I think Fitzpatrick is a CB at least initially in the NFL, and he'd be excellent here. I also like Jaire Alexander from Louisville more than Ward, but he had injury issues in 2017 and I could see him being available maybe in the 2nd (though probably with a short trade up). If Ward was 5'11", I'd adore him. But he's probably sub 5'10", though he will likely run in the 4.3s. I wouldn't hate the pick at all, even at 8. I feel the Bears need to go big this offseason at one position on defense. Whether CB or OLB, an elite player at either position would set up this defense for a long time. If the Bears re-sign Fuller, they are a CB (and an Amos extension) away from having a really good secondary for at least 3 years. If they find an OLB, they'd potentially have a dominant front 5 if Floyd stays healty and one of Robertson-Harris or Bullard takes a step up (and I was impressed by the former a ton down the stretch).
  17. Floyd's good. Had both seasons cut short due to injuries, but should be fine heading into 2018. Gotta get him some help. Not probably ever going to be a 12+ sack guy, but has proven to be better than expected setting the edge vs. the run and has been used in coverage a ton. Got a ton of attention from other teams this year with a TE or chip to his side quite often. Yeah, Vea's strictly a NT. That's Goldman's position. While he could use a viable backup (or play DE himself), the Bears do have some young talent under contract on the DL for next year. Roy Robertson-Harris and Jon Bullard both flashed at times this year and both are like 23. They'll probably add a DL at some point in the offseason but it won't be a high pick or a high $ FA. Agree on Davenport.
  18. Catching up on the last page of this thread. Kyle Fuller MUST come back. I'd prefer a re-sign because the franchise tag is like 14 million, but bottom line is Fuller has to be back. He was a top 20 CB this year, I think some of the PDs will turn into turnovers. And he's the 2nd youngest free agent CB. I think it'll take a contract similar to the 5-year/$52.5Mil deal that Dre Kirkpatrick got last offseason. Maybe a little less like 4/40 ish, but that 5th year would definitely get him to stay in Chicago. And if you lose him, you'll have to pay as much to replace him, while getting an older player, and probably one that's not any better. Roquan Smith is a God. I wouldn't hate the pick at 8. Not a huge need, but he'd probably be the best player available on my personal draft board if it mattered. Connor Williams is pretty interesting. The value positions in the top 10 are QB, pass rusher, CB and OT. Obviously, the Bears aren't taking a QB. I don't know if any pass rusher is worth the 8th pick outside of Chubb, who will undoubtedly would be gone. I don't love the recent history of top 10 OTs, but Williams looks like the real deal. He was dominant in 2016. Had a couple bad games, got hurt, and then came back strong this year. But lost a lot of luster to most. I think he can be a really good OT and he's probably the only guy at one of the 4 positions I named that will realistically be on the board at 8 that I'd actually be Ok with. That being said, I'd love it if Arizona fell in love with a QB and wanted to move up to 8. I'd take that Buffalo deal too, but I'd hate to move that far down (though there would be plenty of ammo to move back up). The Bears do already have Arizona's 4th though. FWIW, with 15 from Arizona I'd look to take whoever is on the board between Ridley (WR), Jackson/Ward (CB), Marcus Davenport (6'7" OLB who I love) or McGlinchey (OT)
  19. Yeah, I really wanted a very experienced OC or DC with a young head coach. Hopefully, Fangio decides to come back, though it's not looking like it right now. Bettcher is a pretty good alternative at DC, but doesn't have a ton of experience. I'd definitely look to bring in someone in a consulting role if the coaching staff is a bunch of 40 year olds.
  20. Playoff experienced Falcons vs. Nick Foles. Drew Brees vs. Case Keenum. Vikings beat the Saints in Week 1, but that was with Sam Bradford and Dalvin Cook. This is what I've been expecting to happen since the playoff seedings were set.
  21. Eh. I wouldn't say he "collapsed". He was walking off the field and went down probably to avoid his team having to call a timeout or get a delay of game penalty. He looked pretty under control to me. Also, "obviously concussed" is a severe overstatement. You don't have the ability to diagnose a concussion on TV, and you can be woozy without getting a concussion. He was likely seeing stars, but you can't determine if he had a concussion based on watching a play on TV.
  22. Many feel it's Flip's job to lose. I'm honestly torn. DeFilippo is the guy the that people think could be the next Sean Payton. An innovative, star head coach. But Nagy is said to be the best coaching prospect from the extremely successful Andy Reid tree, by Andy himself. I think DeFilippo is the guy that's going to get the most out of Trubisky. He seems to truly be a QB guru. But I think Nagy may actually be better for the team overall. He has a more recent history of playcalling and the Chiefs have averaged over 28 points the last 6 games he's been calling the offense. While Flip is more likely to make Trubisky "great", I think Nagy would be better for the offense if Trubisky isn't great. He seems to know how to maximize production from the talent he has to work with. That being said, it's hard to really know what DeFilippo would do with a full offense and a full team in general. But he did lead a McCown, Manziel, and Austin Davis led offense to 4100+ yards passing as the OC in Cleveland in 2015. So, if he does make Trubisky great, it's hard to imagine the team overall wouldn't be great.
  23. It's not conveniently leaving anyone out. The conversation wasn't about failed coaches, it was about successful coaches and I didn't start the conversation.
  24. Your list presented in anotherway: Defense: Brady, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Newton, Ryan Offense: McNabb, Rodgers, Brees ST: Flacco Just Missed: Luck, Bridgewater/Bradford/Keenum, Warner/Palmer, Romo/Prescott, Stafford, Smith/Kaepernick So it's a QB list as much as a coaching list. I am asking myself now, who are the top QB's that aren't on this list? The 50 win threshold & active status eliminates quite a few: E. Manning, Rivers, Carr, Cousins I'm sure the credit goes to coaches and QBs both and in some cases other ways to build a team (elite running/defense teams), but we all know its a QB league. Nothing shocking there, but I think it's clear that Mitch needs someone doing a great job developing him, even if it's not necessarily the HC. So one interesting thing I did read about DeFillipo is that he's actually coming out of contract so Philly can't block him from leaving for a OC job. Granted, if he has any success, he probably ends up leaving for a HC job the next year a la Gase, but I did think it was an interesting wrinkle to the search process. That's what you can't allow to happen though. 3 OCs in 3 years for Trubisky would be a bad idea even if there is some continuity at head coach. Pace really should have fired Fox after last year or forced him to fire Loggains and give him 2 years with a better OC that could be promoted to head coach in 2019 or just start all over then.
  25. Here's the current/active coaches with 9 wins/season and at least 50 wins, to give a sense of sustainable success: Defense: Belichick, Tomlin, Carroll, Rivera, Mike Smith Offense: Reid, McCarthy, Payton ST: John Harbaugh Just missed: Pagano (D), Zimmer, (D), Arians (O), Garrett (O), Caldwell (O), Jim Harbaugh (O) Your list presented in anotherway: Defense: Brady, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Newton, Ryan Offense: McNabb, Rodgers, Brees ST: Flacco Just Missed: Luck, Bridgewater/Bradford/Keenum, Warner/Palmer, Romo/Prescott, Stafford, Smith/Kaepernick So it's a QB list as much as a coaching list. Historically, it's pretty interesting defensive vs. offensive coaches. Shula, Landry, Noll, Parcells were defensive guys Gibbs, Reeves, Shottenheimer, Levy, Shanahan were offensive guys. A quick glimpse looks pretty close to 50/50 offensive/defensive coaches in the top 20 all-time wins (with guys like Halas, Paul Brown, Lambeau, etc. who did it all back in the day in their early 20s).....though I don't know if all them averaged 9 wins per year (for example Coughlin's at 8.5 for his career, and 8.5 for the Giants and Jags each ironically). And John Harbaugh worked as a defensive coach before become a STC, so he'd make it 6-3 in favor of defensive coaches. But I think the trend is clearly going offensive coaches way. Sean McDermott won 9 his 1st year this year. Anthony Lynn won 9 his 1st year this year. Marrone has an 8.3 win average and has won 9 games in 2 of his 3 seasons (1-1 interim in between) Gase won 10 his 1st year and only year with his starting QB healthy. (still average of 8 per season) McVay 11 in 1st year this year. Pederson averaging 10 wins in 2 years Koetter had a 9 win season his 1st year last year. Kyle Shanahan may never lose another game apparently. I think there's a good chance that at least 3 of these guys get there. McVay and Pederson are ahead of the curve and have young rosters under contract for the foreseeable future. McDermott looks like a damn good coach considering his GM tried to tank the season and rebuild and he still made the playoffs. On the defensive side, it looks like a case of teams just not really going after defensive guys as much because of the league being so QB driven, but it looks like only Zimmer and Quinn will get there. Of course, there are only 2 other defensive minded coaches that currently have jobs that were hired in the last 4 years (others being Bowles and Vance Joseph). I think Bowles is a really good coach, and he won 10 his first year but a pair of 5-win seasons since which were probably overachieving, but still puts him at risk of getting 9 per and 50 total anytime soon.
