Been arguing on Twitter since this happened, that this Fuller play is indeed a penalty 100x out of 100.
Just as the Broncos announcer explains, the penalty is announced as "leading with the head", which I think is throwing people off. Fuller definitely did not lead with the head. But he drives his shoulder into his head. Still an illegal play, regardless of how it's stated on the announcement. You just simply can't do this. The sentiment that this is ruining the game or defenders have to "learn how to play differently than they were taught" is nonsense. Literally nobody has ever been taught to hit in the head or with the head. Big hits make highlight videos and these players have seen that over the years and it's become way too commonplace. You can still make a hard hit without hitting with or in the head. I've had people arguing that the runner lowered his head into Fuller's shoulder. Yeah, this clearly is not a guy using his head as a battering ram. I've had people arguing that Fuller had nowhere else to hit. Well, for one he had the entire rest of his body to hit. Secondly, he could have simply not hit him, unless he was getting out of that tackle, as another defender already has him wrapped up. Now people are arguing semantics that "they called the new rule", not hitting in the head. Either is a 15-yard penalty. We really arguing that they didn't call the correct 15-yarder? People need to stop this caveman mentality with football. These are not gladiators made to bash each other in the head for your personal entertainment. They are people spending on average 1/20 of their lives in a very dangerous occupation that shouldn't have to completely ruin the quality and length of their lives.
