  1. That would have been a sack if defenders were allowed to really hit the quarterback. Since Quinn wrapped him up instead of flooring him, he had a chance to get the football off. I'm not saying the rule is bad, just that it's a consequence of the change.
  2. Also, the $49M paid to the backup/bridge qb's in this game by the Bears in the past few years is a huge indictment on Pace.
  3. Good start I think Desai showed some inexperience early in the year, but I think he's gotten better as the year has gone along.
  4. I would like to see bowl games split between southern and northern cities at some point. It's a huge advantage that every bowl is essentially a home game for every southern team.
  5. oh my god. They did it again. I can't remember see another team get a taunting flag all year. We get two a game.
  6. Happy Festivus to everybody! (I'll be over *there* for the Feats of Strength and Airing of Grievances)
  7. I must have missed the discussion of these hires:
  8. Realistically, what do we need to add for next year to feel like we're putting Justin in a real position to succeed? Something like this? - 2 starting caliber WRs - 1 starting caliber TE - A starting caliber Center - A starting caliber guard (ideally just extend James Daniels) - A tackle (these last few weeks to determine how good he needs to be) With the cap space open this offseason, that's probably actually doable? You're left bargain hunting on defense, but I'd be happy to finally have a team that can win games 34-27. I think the biggest thing is the WR and a better scheme. Bring in a bad ass #1 and a quality slot receiver. I know Kmet has had some drops, but he's shown enough as a second year guy that I'd prioritize other spots over him. Extend Daniels and bring in a just-in-case tackle. If there's a cheap upgrade at center, go for it. Spend the rest on the defense.
  9. One thing I learned: Graham should start the remainder of the year.
  10. Yeah I know DVOA and I think QBR take score/leverage into account and so they won't be too kind to him tonight. It was also a pretty crummy night with his legs. That said in terms of purely just standing in the pocket and letting it rip probably his best game. . It's nearly automatic that QBs have good stats like this against the Vikes. They have been the worst at defending against WR production in the entire league this year. That largely has to do with a complete lack of pass rush. which was not the case tonight. Take all of that for what you will. They're #1 in the NFL in sacks, according to the broadcast.
  11. lolbears
  12. Did I see that right that they didn't change the play call after Montgomery had to come off the field?
  13. Bulls >> Bears
  14. So, I just joined the game. Why does Fields only have four pass attempts half way through the second quarter?
  15. Overpriced. ha
  16. Cubs signed Mark Leiter Jr. to a minor league deal. This looks like a really nice depth signing. Hell, his Steamer projection would be our 2nd or 3rd best starter. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/mark-leiter/15551/stats?position=P https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2021/12/16/chicago-cubs-sign-mark-leiter-jr-to-a-minor-league-deal/
  17. I agree that Kyle Seager feels like the single most obvious addition out there. Would love to get him & Story combined for around the same 2022 cost as Correa and a significantly shorter commit. I hadn't seen that Kikuchi is likely to get a three year deal. That's a hard pass for me. I loved him as a one year deal, don't like him at two, and don't want any part of a three year deal.
  18. The three years at Illinois prepped me pretty well.
  19. We stink.
  20. Yep, but that doesn’t somehow improve anyone else’s profile does it? Nah. We all have our guys we get fixated upon.
  21. So did Miggy. he had already come from the marlins though. javy feels like he belongs on a high profile team where he can feed off the electricity of the city That's how Detroit sees itself, though.
  22. My strong preference is spending more money. :) If forced to choose, I'd probably go with some variation of B.
  23. A fun, random note that involves a former Cub: Boston gave Rich Hill a 1 year contract. It is the *seventh* time they've signed him to a deal.
  24. This topic might be worth its own thread, but I was also thinking about what we are able to infer about Jed's pitching preferences last night. I was looking at durability and command. If you look at Miley, Stroman and Kilian, all three have plus command. Maybe they feel that velocity / stuff is overpriced? I admit I didn't pay nearly as much attention to the draft as normal this year. Is Wicks also a plus command guy? Or maybe it's too few data points to be a trend. After all, Arrieta isn't a command guy and neither was Williams.
