  1. So cute that you guys think there will be runners on base
  2. Steele struggling with control today.
  3. Which position players are you hoping to break camp with? c Willson 1b Schwindel 2b Madrigal ss Hoerner 3b Wisdom lf Happ cf Ortega rf Seiya dh Frazier Bench - Gomes, Rivas, Villar, Simmons, Hermosillo That's 14 and already one too many. Rivas will likely get optioned to AAA, which is too bad because he's probably the best LH bat on the team. Plus the Cubs are really likely to keep Heyward over Ortega.
  4. I think Ortega really needs to show something quickly. It makes most sense that that roster spot comes down to a decision between him and Heyward. I'm guessing that the Cubs go with Heyward because of contract, status in the clubhouse, yada yada. I'd keep Ortega to see if his performance against right handers last year was real.
  5. The door was shut on that long before Suzuki signed. Davis still has legitimate things he needs to be working on in the minors.
  6. This has some really interesting implications: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-minor-cba-change-could-create-contract-wrinkles/ Basically, under the new CBA the tax implications of a contract recalculate after a trade. So, if the article is correct, if the Cubs ate all but $5M of Heyward's contract, the team taking him on would only have a $5M hit to the luxury tax. It also means that older players will probably be signing more front-loaded deals in the future. Heck, it probably means a lot more than that in the long run.
  7. Unfortunately, it's a big if.
  8. Cubs traded Harold Ramirez for Esteban Quiroz today. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jesus-quiroz/sa596560/stats?position=2B

  10. Update 2: yeah
  11. Update: *still* sucks
  12. News Flash: Mills still sucks.
  13. Are you only hearing this now?
  14. Just go the hockey route and have a HR derby
  15. In many (most?) of the rankings, they already have two guys. Brennen probably won't lose eligibility by mid-season, so we would need 3-4 guys to make the jump. There's a legit 7-8 guys in position to make that leap and be recognized. Odds aren't great that half of them do so. But they're not awful, either.
  16. Meh on the rankings. There's a whole bunch of talent on the farm, but it is at a low enough level that the rankings don't show it yet. When you get past the number and read the comments about the system, pretty much everyone thinks the farm will be very strong in another year.
  17. I have to admit I'm pretty downtrodden about this team from ownership to the state of the farm but it would take something like we seen in 2001 but there's no Sosa or Lieber as far as a sub-par talented team pretending to contend. You're disillusioned about the state of the farm?
  18. Here's the answer: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2022/03/21/brennen-davis-came-out-of-the-game-after-being-hit-by-a-pitch/ he got hit in the knee, but stayed in the game for a while. They took him out when he was still hobbling after getting to 2B on a ground out.
  19. Anyone know why they pinch ran for Davis after he got plunked by Asshat? (that's his name now after hitting Hermosillo and Davis back to back)
  20. I think the thing that hurts the connection to the team is to have all those contracts come up at one time. If they had staggered those out more effectively, then there are bridge players from one generation to the next.
  21. First: I love Willson. Second: I'm really not excited about extending a catcher for his declining years. He's been my second favorite player on the team behind Baez for a long time, but he's the last one I'd extend.
  22. same class as Carsen Edwards, Zavier Simpson, Cassius Winston, amazing Plus I always conflate him with all the other Bohannons and feel like the most recent one has been around forever.
  23. Hasn't Bohannon been at Iowa for around 14 years now?
  24. Damn shame that.
  25. How is it possible that Javy Guerra is only 26? Is this a different Javy Guerra?
