  1. Also at Iowa today: - Canario is 1-2, 2BB, 1K - Hill is 2-4, 2 3B I'd really like to drop Ortega and give Hill a chance to show he's worth rostering.
  2. As much as we complain about Ricketts, I'd take him in a heartbeat over Reinsdorf.
  3. I'm going to need to check your sources on this one.
  4. Assad deserves it. He's been fantastic this year.
  5. He’s on the move to Iowa Confirmed?
  6. I begin to understand why SF cut Kervin
  7. I think that's fair, and though I think part of Palencia's particular IP limits are self-imposed through poor control, it's not like the rotation spot he takes now or over the next 12 months are so precious that he'd be stunting anyone else's development. At the same time, when I think of 'holding velocity deep into games', I think of hitting triple digit pitch counts/3rd time through the order/6+ IP, so I wouldn't use that as a particular point in his favor based on what he's done so far. From a physical standpoint if you're still throwing gas 80+ pitches into a start, I'm not sure there's any difference between that being in the 4th or it being in the 6th. Probably harder to do it in fewer innings with less rest mixed in.
  8. Yeah pending the quality of the FA that's likely a fairly average starting 5. But Alzolay as the long guy in the pen plus Kilian/Wesneski at Iowa is very very good depth, and really raises the floor. They'll probably roster Sampson as another depth guy, too.
  9. Are we sure that Steele isn't the ace we need next year?
  10. iirc, he's done okay vs velocity this year, but he's been struggling vs offspeed. I wonder if he's cheating a bit to stay on the fastballs and ends up overcommitted against offspeed.
  11. He's definitely one of my favorite low-ranked prospects.
  12. Let's just hope you guys pay up better than Sulley.
  13. Wade Miley looked very Wade Miley-ish in his start at Iowa today.
  14. I'm starting to think Franmil may have been a good waiver claim.
  15. Perlaza also has a double, and Canario also has a single and a SB
  16. Random thoughts on today's game: - Ortega has had a nice run with the team and prevented much worse awfulness. But if Hill is going to be added to the 40 at the end of the year, I'd really like to DFA Ortega and get Hill some playing time. - Thompson could probably stand to be shut down for 10 days or so with a DL stint for a "dead arm" or some such thing. Let him come back after that and build innings. But he's lost some velocity and command recently and could use a break. - McKinstry has looked better recently. He hadn't gotten much playing time with the Dodgers, maybe he just needed to get his timing back. - Morel is filling the Javy-sized hole in my heart.
  17. Interesting that Wheat is injured. back when the draft was in June, pitchers would still barely get 10 innings. Being a month later, I'd not be surprised if they don't pitch at all until next year? I wonder if that's a way to just get him onto his minor league salary. I have no idea if it makes a difference to these guys when they're rostered vs not.
  18. damn - if you can get that call, that's a really hard pitch to do anything with as a hitter.
  19. If the city is trying to convince the Bears to stay...this isn't a good start.
  20. Ben Brown: not as good today.
  21. I'm assuming there will be no Hearn update for today's game.
  22. Aaron Judge is *currently* the best available hitter. By a mile. You may be assuming the Yankees extend him, though.
  23. I didn't go that deep on Bogaerts. Is his exit velocity is way down? Honestly, I can get behind not spending a huge contract on any of these guys. They all have significant red flags. I'd happily do a 5 year, big dollar deal, though. Just not with Swanson.
  24. That assumes a similar contract for all four guys. If there are big differences in the payout, then obviously that's a huge factor, too.
